One aspect of bhakti is trying to bend God by every means to accomplish one’s own wish. Sometimes, God, like a mother who enjoys her child’s efforts to bend her will, does the same with a bhakta. Reflecting on this, I wrote this song.

I woke up at 2:30 a.m. Unable to sleep, I got out of bed, made a cup of tea, and began to deeply meditate on the current situation. With the day caretaker married, her mother will help, but both my mother and I must readjust our lives according to the demands of time. I managed in the past, but considering my health, I cannot adjust too much. I thought of various alternative means to take care of our needs. Then I told my heart to stop such thinking and recall how God has always intervened in my life and provided timely help. Inspired, I wrote this song as my prayer of the day.

Only when I manage to sit calmly and listen to the gentle voice of God in my atman do my other attempts not end in failure. Although I often experience this, repeated failures create a sense of remorse in my spirit. When I feel such remorse, I take it to God and seek His grace to overcome that nature within me.

Again, the same struggle about caring for my mother and looking after my health arises. Everyone has their limitations—relatives, friends, or caretakers. Particularly when helpers work only for money, we cannot and should not expect more than they are willing to do. This is especially true when caring for aged and sick people. It is a difficult job that requires mental strength. Helpers often work only as much as they want, not as much as we expect. As I struggled both day and night without proper sleep and with new pain in my elbows, I was unsure what to do. After much discussion, I returned to square one. As usual, I took the matter to the Lord, and while talking to Him, the words ‘You know how to unload as You have loaded’ came to me. I wrote this song as part of my prayer and meditation. I find more comfort in writing a song than in uttering many words in prayer.
