BT Songs 1436 to 1440

BT Song 1436

In Hindi, they say: “Kabhi gam; kabhi khushi.” So, life is a mixture of both joy and sorrow. The best way to live such a life is to live one day at a time, accepting both sides of life. Maintaining balance is the secret of life. Going to any extreme will make us fail in life, regardless of which extreme we choose.

 BT Song 1436: Celebrate Life

 Simple English Version

Though we keep the dog

Inside the house after washing it

It would prefer to go outside

To make itself dirty.

Similarly, even though

You live in my heart

My heart will wander

And get itself dirty.

Though you have given

Thousands of blessings

For me to celebrate

Everyday life,

Often thinking about the hardships

That naturally come in life,

My heart will

Become very sad.

If you give a life

Without any hardships,

Surely my heart will

Get bored of that life.

At the same time,

If suffering alone becomes the life,

Then my heart will

Definitely forget you.

Always remembering the

Eternal mantra that

Life is a mixture of

Both sorrow and joy,

Celebrating the joy

And facing the trials,

I should live this life

Keeping a balance.

All those who lived before

Lived this way,

And all those who will come in the future

Will also live like this.

Understanding this clearly,

Remembering your grace,

I should live this life today,

And you should help me with that.

Gurukulam, 9-10-2022, 5.30 am.

 BT Song 1436: Celebrate Life

 Classical English Version

Though we keep the dog

Within the house after giving a wash,

It would rather go outside

To soil itself once more.

Similarly, though thou dost

Abide within my heart,

My heart will venture out

To soil itself anew.

Though thou hast bestowed

Thousands of blessings,

For me to celebrate

The everyday life,

Oft thinking upon the trials

That naturally arise in life,

My heart will oft become

Sorrowful and sad.

If thou dost give a life

Devoid of any trials,

Surely my heart will

Grow weary of that life.

Yet, if suffering alone

Becomes the essence of life,

Then surely my heart will

Utterly forget thee.

Always recalling the

Eternal mantra that

Life is a blend of

Both sorrow and joy,

Celebrating the joys

And confronting the trials,

I should live this life

Maintaining a balance.

All those who lived ere now

Lived thusly,

And all those who shall come

Will also live thus.

Comprehending this fully,

And remembering thy grace,

I should live this life today,

And thou shouldst aid me therein.

Gurukulam, 9-10-2022, 5.30 am.

BT Song 1437

Anxiety not only robs the future but also deprives us of peace of mind in the present. While it’s important to plan for our future, if we spend our present life with anxiety over potential future trials that may never come, we will lose the present to depression. However, our human nature often prevents us from easily overcoming this anxiety. For a bhakta, seeking the grace of God is the only remedy. The context of this song is the anxiety I feel about possibly having to leave the ashram and go to another care home with my mother to take care of her. This thought often gives me anxiety. If it were only about my life, I could easily overcome such anxiety, but considering my health and the needs of my semi-bedridden mother, I have to live each day with this anxiety, seeking God’s grace to overcome it.

 BT Song 1437: I Need a Boon

 Simple English Version

As you told me to ask,

I am asking now,

And I come before you,

Begging for that.

But I never received

What I asked for,

At the same time,

I cannot stop asking again.

You should remove

A kind of worry

That comes

Each day in my life.

Always imagining

About some

Unseen trials

That might not even come.

Thinking always

Of some remedy,

And none of them

Helping me much.

In order to continue

The present life as it is,

And you also to

Help me with that.

I came before you,

Begging again,

You alone should

Remove this shortcoming.

Taking courage that

What I am fearing about

Will never happen

In my life.

Whatever it might be,

You are there to help,

Thinking always of this,

I should live praising you.

I seek this

As the boon now,

As usual, you

Bestow it again.

Gurukulam, 9-10-2022, 11.30 p.m.

 BT Song 1437: I Need a Boon

 Classical English Version

As thou hast told me to ask,

I now beseech thee,

And I come before thee,

Imploring for that.

Yet, I have not received

What I have sought,

And yet again,

I cannot cease to ask.

Thou shouldst remove

A certain worry

That doth arise

Each day in my life.

Always imagining

Some unseen trials

That might never

Come to pass.

Always thinking

Of some remedy,

And none of them

Aiding me much.

In order to sustain

The present life as it is,

And thou also to

Aid me therein.

I come before thee,

Imploring once more,

Thou alone shouldst

Remove this flaw.

Taking courage that

What I fear

Shall never come

To pass in my life.

Whatever it might be,

Thou art there to aid,

Always recalling this,

I should live praising thee.

I seek this

As the boon now,

As is thy wont,

Bestow it once more.

Gurukulam, 9-10-2022, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1438

Another song brings God into contention as He remains indifferent to our troubles and trials. There is no specific reason why I often involve God in such contention. It’s a way for me to vent my frustration, unable to face certain realities in life. I am not afraid of work and can do all kinds of work, but when I exceed my capacity, I expect God to understand my limitations and intervene to provide some rest and respite from overburden. This is one such situation where I have to take care of my bedridden mother with limited help. Unable to sleep properly day and night and unable to rest properly, my only option is to lament and vent my frustration to God.

BT Song 1438: Now Take Rest

 Simple English Version

What other works

Do you have?

Better you tell

That to me.

You created and protected us,

Redeemed dying for us,

Then went to heaven

And sat there calmly.

Till you return back,

Only you have rest.

What other works do you have?

Tell that to me.

But think about

Our situation.

Do we have time

For rest and relaxation?

From the womb

To the grave,

How many works

Do we have?

But you least

Concerned about it,

Therefore, you never

Interfere in our lives.

You forsake us

By saying that

‘I have done what I could do,

Rest is your funeral.’

If we ask anything

In prayer,

You tell us that

Time has not come to give.

If we ask the

Reason for that,

You tell us that

It is your prerogative.

Therefore, on one side,

We have to struggle continuously.

On the other side,

We have to lament a lot.

But you could take rest

As if you didn’t

Hear anything

About our plight.

Ok, let it be.

Let me see how long this will go.

One day I will

Come unto you.

Then the scene will

Completely change.

An end will come

For your rest.

As we will take

Permanent rest,

You have to protect us

All the time without any rest.

Therefore now,

You take rest.

Then you forget

Completely about it.

Gurukulam, 9-10-2022, 5:15 p.m.

BT Song 1438: Now Take Rest

And sat there calmly.

Till thou returnest,

Have we time

BT Song 1439

I felt that the Lord was punishing me beyond my capacity. I became tired of so many things—both in body and mind. Then, when I was praying to the Lord, I poured out my heart by writing these songs. At the same time, as the bhakti tradition shows, a true bhakta is more pained when God suffers for his sake or because of him.

BT Song 1439: Your Hands Will Pain

 Simple English Version

Stop asking

Questions to me.

Just see if

You can give answers to me.

I become tired

From receiving your beatings,

But you never

Stopped beating me.

Though your Veda

Clearly says,

‘Forty lashes

Less one,’

Even stopping

Counting also,

Somehow you

Continued the beating.

Did you think that

I can tolerate

How much more

You might beat me?

As I become numb

From constant beatings,

I continue to take

Many more again.

If others beat me,

I can come to you.

But if you beat me,

Where can I go?

Does the child

Have any other refuge

Other than

Its own mother?

Therefore, however much

You continue to beat me,

I will come

Only to you.

But I will cry

Thinking that

Your hands will pain

After beating me.

But if you

Only like that,

I will come again

To receive beatings from you.

Gurukulam, 10-10-2022, 11:00 p.m.

BT Song 1439: Your Hands Will Pain

 Classical English Version

Cease thy questions

To me now.

Just see if

Thou canst give answers to me.

I grow weary

From thy spangs,

Yet thou never

Ceasest thy beatings.

Though thy Veda

Doth clearly state,

‘Forty lashes

Less one,’

Even ceasing

Counting too,

Somehow thou

Continuedst thy beating.

Didst thou think that

I canst endure

How much more

Thou might beat me?

As I grow numb

From constant spangs,

I continue to take

Many more still.

If others beat me,

I can come to thee.

But if thou beatest me,

Where can I go?

Doth the child

Have any refuge

Other than

Its own mother?

Therefore, however much

Thou continuest to beat me,

I shall come

Only to thee.

But I shall weep

Thinking that

Thy hands will pain

After beating me.

But if thou

Dost only like that,

I shall come again

To receive thy beatings.

BT Song 1440

For the past few days, I was in a dilemma about making an important decision. Others tried their best to guide me, but in the end, I had to make the call. Tonight, when I was unable to make a final decision, I spoke to the Lord about it. The result is this song, my prayer (and also a lighthearted teasing of the Lord not to hesitate in making any decision, as I am always with Him to support and encourage Him).

BT Song 1440: Everything Will Be Fine

 Simple English Version

Whatever decision

You might take,

I know well that

It will remain good.

But I am not sure

If it will be the same

If I make

My own decision.

At the same time,

I know well that

You won’t interfere

In my right.

But knowing

The danger in it,

This servant is

Now hesitating.

Better you tell me

If I should take

That bold step,

As you are there with me.

However, remember that

You also have a share

In any trouble

That might come after that.

Can you keep away

By saying that

This is

None of your business?

As we both

Become one,

You too have an equal share

In whatever happens.

Therefore, you

Take the decision

And just give

The information to me.

Whatever the decision,

I will accept it,

And so far I have

Done only this.

You also know this

Very well,

So why hesitate

Any further?

If you have

Any hesitation,

Inform me,

As I am always with you.

When we both are here

To encourage

Each other

In everything,

Take courage,

Make the decision,

And remember that

Everything will be fine.

Gurukulam, 16-10-2022, 10:30 p.m.

BT Song 1440: Everything Will Be Fine

 Classical English Version

Whichever decision

That thou might take,

I know well that

It will remain good.

But I am not sure

If it will be the same

If I should make

Mine own decision.

At the same time,

I know well that

Thou wilt not interfere

In my right.

But knowing

The danger in it,

This servant doth

Now hesitate.

Better thou tell me

If I should take

That bold step,

As thou art with me.

However, remember that

Thou too hast a share

In any trouble

That might follow.

Canst thou keep away

By saying that

This is

None of thy concern?

As we both

Become one,

Thou too hast an equal share

In whatever doth happen.

Therefore, thou

Take the decision,

And only give

The information to me.

Whichever decision it may be,

I will accept it,

And thus far I have

Done only this.

Thou knowest this

Very well,

So why dost thou

Hesitate further?

If thou hast

Any hesitation,

Inform me,

As I am ever with thee.

When we both are here

To encourage

Each other

In all things,

Take courage,

Make thy decision,

And remember that

Everything will be fine.

 BT Song 1436

 BT Song 1440
