BT Songs 1466 to 1470

BT Song 1466

I started crying ever since my mother was bedridden. When she passed away peacefully on the evening of the 26th, I couldn’t control my tears. All those around me bombarded me with the same philosophy: “Everyone has to die. This is part of nature. You know this better than us. But you never stop crying. First, stop it. Otherwise, your health will be affected.”

My only response to them was: “What my buddhi [intellect] understands, my heart refuses to accept, and what my heart does, my buddhi never approves.” But mourning is part of human nature. Indeed, it is also a gift from God. Of course, I know that one day we will all be gone. At the same time, I always insisted that, though our physical body is gone, the relationship we have or had will continue forever. When we came into the world, we never came as individuals but in a relationship with so many others—as a daughter, son, grandchild, niece, nephew, cousin. After we pass away, the same relationship will continue. Otherwise, there is no point in having human history and tradition. No sanyasi is exempt from this common rule. Pattinattar, who renounced everything, lamented and wrote a long song of lamentation when his mother passed away. Even Adi Sankara performed funeral rites for his mother. So many sanyasis kept their mother with them in the ashram. So what I am doing—mourning for my mother—is part of human nature. And the only philosophy that I have learned in life is to respect and celebrate relationships—even as a Guru and disciple.

After the funeral and the bones were collected and immersed in water, everyone left. Some of my relatives and close friends were concerned about leaving me alone, knowing well that I would continue to cry, remembering my mother. But very few agreed with me: “Do not hold back your tears and mourn unless your heart also accepts the reality of death.”

So, after my evening walk, when I returned unable to control my tears, I wrote this song dedicated to my beloved mother. I prefer to stay alone here, not disturbed by others, to calm down my mind and atman to accept the philosophy that those who are gone won’t come back, but our relationship with them will continue forever, especially with one’s mother.

 BT Song 1466 Relationship Continues

 Simple English Version:

1

I don’t know

How to talk philosophy,

I refused to follow

All traditional codes.

2

I understood the only

True philosophy on this earth:

That relationships

Alone are true.

3

Born with relationships,

As with relatives,

It continues

Even after our death.

4

Not realizing this

And living accordingly,

What is the use of

Talking philosophy?

5

I came as your child,

And you became my mother.

I know well that

You brought me up with tender care.

6

Accepting so many

Troubles for me,

You lived only for me,

That I experienced.

7

Thinking that

You have done enough,

Did you leave now,

Leaving me alone?

8

Though separation

Is common to all,

Why did you leave me,

Giving me that pain now?

9

Though my mind understands it,

My heart refuses to accept it,

And my mind does not like

The way my heart cries.

10

But I haven’t yet gained

The maturity

To accept the emptiness

That you left behind.

11

But you will always

Remain as my mother,

You will comfort me,

Allowing me to mourn as long as I could.

12

Though your mortal body has gone,

Our relationship will continue,

This philosophy alone

You shared with me.

13

I don’t know for sure

When, where, or how

I will

Meet you again.

14

But you are living

In my heart,

And seeing you there,

I will live each day.

BT Song 1466 Relationship Continues

 Classical English Version:

1

I know not

How to speak of philosophy,

I have declined to follow

All traditional codes.

2

I grasped the one

True philosophy on this earth:

That relationships

Alone are real.

3

Born amidst relationships,

As with kin and kin,

It continues

Even beyond our demise.

4

Not understanding this

And living in such a way,

What worth lies in

Philosophical discourse?

5

I came as thy child,

And thou became my mother.

I know well that

Thou didst nurture me with tender care.

6

Enduring many

Troubles for me,

Thou didst live solely for me,

This I have known.

7

Thinking that

Thou hast done enough,

Didst thou now depart,

Leaving me alone?

8

Though separation

Is common to all,

Why didst thou leave me,

Bestowing upon me this sorrow now?

9

Though my reason understands it,

My heart refuses to accept it,

And my reason disdains

The way my heart weeps.

10

Yet, I have not attained

The maturity

To embrace the void

Thou hast left behind.

11

But thou wilt always

Remain my mother,

Thou wilt console me,

Allowing me to mourn as long as I may.

12

Though thy mortal form is gone,

Our relationship endures,

This philosophy alone

Thou hast imparted to me.

13

I know not for certain

When, where, or how

I shall

Meet thee again.

14

But thou dost dwell

Within my heart,

And seeing thee there,

I shall live each day.

BT Song 1467

After going for an evening walk after a long time, when I returned to my room, unable to control my tears, I began to cry for my mother. Of course, I know well that she will never come back, but her memory, particularly the last few weeks of our struggle together to take care of her, will always remain fresh in my mind and will bring tears. When I was translating and typing this narrative on January 3rd early in the morning, I couldn’t control my tears, and with much sorrow, I am typing this. God knows my heart, and He is there to console me and allow me to cry if I need to. What others think is not important to me. [When I am editing this to post in my blog, I started to cry again thinking my mother on 6-8-2024]

BT Song 1467 Crying Will Change the Heart

 Simple English Version:

1

No matter how much I lament,

My mother won’t come back.

Though I understand

This truth very well.

2

Still, you know that

Only if I cry like this,

Then alone my

Heart will find peace.

3

When you have

Shed tears, though remaining as God,

You also allowed

The same for me.

4

Though some kind of

Emptiness has come within me,

You helped me to understand that

This is also natural.

5

When even animals

Cry when separated,

It is good for me

To cry as well.

6

Though my mother has gone,

Oh Lord, you are here,

And you will comfort me,

Encouraging me every day.

7

Though I might forget her

Slowly in life,

Becoming a mother,

You will show her love.

8

However the rest of life

Might move,

In whatever way,

You will keep me.

9

Your eyes that have

Seen me even before

I was formed in the womb

Will never leave me for a second.

10

Once you become

As a father and mother,

You will remain with me

As an eternal relative, never separated.

11

Creating me

In the womb of my mother,

You bestowed the relationship of

A mother and child.

12

Though she is separated in body,

She continues to live in her relationship with me.

That is enough for me

Every day.

13

Along with it,

As your grace is there for me,

I will live each day

Praising you.

BT Song 1467 Crying Will Change the Heart

 Classical English Version:

1

However much I lament,

My mother will not return.

Though I comprehend

This truth quite well.

2

Yet, thou knowest,

Only if I weep thus,

Then alone my

Heart shall find peace.

3

When thou hast shed tears,

Though as God thou remainest,

Thou hast also granted

The same for me.

4

Though a certain emptiness

Hath entered within me,

Thou hast shown that

This too is natural.

5

When even beasts

Weep when separated,

It is meet for me

To weep as well.

6

Though my mother hath departed,

O Lord, thou art here,

And thou shalt console me,

Encouraging me each day.

7

Though I may forget her

Slowly in life,

Becoming a mother,

Thou shalt show her love.

8

However life may proceed,

In whichever manner,

Thou shalt keep me

Safe and sound.

9

Thine eyes that have

Seen me before my forming

In the womb

Shall never leave me for a second.

10

Once thou art

As father and mother,

Thou shalt remain with me

As an eternal kin, ne’er to part.

11

Creating me

In my mother’s womb,

Thou hast bestowed the bond of

Mother and child.

12

Though she be separate in body,

She lives on in our bond.

That suffices for me

Every day.

13

Alongside, with thy grace

Bestowed upon me,

I shall live each day

Praising thee.

BT Song 1468

Is it mere utopian idealism or wishful thinking that God actually presents Himself in our lives, sometimes taking a physical form to comfort us? Though few saints claim that they have actually experienced such physical presence of God in their lives, for me, it is neither a utopian ideal nor mere wishful philosophical thinking or comfort. Use any modern term using psychology, for a bhakta, the inner experience of the presence of God in her every walk of life works on a different level, transcending all kinds of understanding. That is the solace she finds in her atman, which words fail to communicate. And I find such solace when I communicate through my poems.

BT Song 1447 You Should Accomplish

 Simple English Version:

1

No matter how many

Excuses you give,

My heart won’t accept them,

You should understand this.

2

Even if you provide

Thousands of reasons,

They won’t help you

In any way.

3

Being alone

Is not new to me,

And you should

Remember this first.

4

You should fulfill your promise

To be with me

At least once

In my life.

5

It’s right for you

To think that,

As I am an innocent woman,

You can do as you please.

6

I am worn out,

I am tired,

Did you not

Know about this?

7

On one side,

The cool wind tortures me,

On the other,

My body burns within.

8

Moreover, O my Lord,

As you delay further,

I become frustrated

Each day within me.

9

If one has

Strength of mind,

She can delay

The body’s needs.

10

But I cannot

Give up the need of my heart

So easily

In my life.

11

So, no more

Excuses,

And do not ignore

My tears.

12

To attain

The bliss of devotion every day,

You should stay with me,

Never leaving, not even for a second.

13

You should fulfill

The promise you made,

That you will never leave

Or forsake me.

Gurukulam, 10-11-2022, 10.30 p.m.

—

 Classical English Version:

1

How many an excuse

Thou may present,

My heart shall not

Accept them, know this.

2

Though thou givest

A thousand explanations,

They shall avail thee not

In any wise.

3

To dwell alone

Is not unknown to me,

This first

Thou must recall.

4

Thou shouldst fulfill thy vow,

To be with me

At least once

In this life of mine.

5

‘Tis fair for thee

To deem that,

As I am a guileless maid,

Thou canst act as thou wilt.

6

I am worn

And weary,

Dost thou not

Know of this?

7

On one hand,

The cool wind doth torment me,

Whilst on the other,

My body burns within.

8

Moreover, O Lord,

Thy further delay

Fills me with frustration

Day by day.

9

If one possesseth

Strength of mind,

She may defer

The body’s needs.

10

But the heart’s desire

I cannot

So easily renounce

In this life of mine.

11

Henceforth, no more

Excuses,

Nor disregard

My tears.

12

To gain the bliss

Of daily devotion,

Thou must abide with me,

Leaving not, even for a moment.

13

Accomplish thou

Thy given word,

That thou shalt never leave

Nor forsake me.

Gurukulam, 10-11-2022, 10.30 p.m.

BT Song 1468 You Are Comforting

 Simple English Version:

1

I know well that

You are carrying me,

I clearly understand that

You are leading me.

2

Still, there is

Pain in my heart,

That too you

Know very well.

3

Who is there

To comfort a child

When it mourns

After losing its mother?

4

Does any human

Have the qualification

To fill

That emptiness?

5

There is no one

For me on this earth

To compensate

For the loss of my mother.

6

But your

Lap is there

For me to

Lay my head.

7

You comfort me

Every day,

Like a mother

Touching my head.

8

Without needing

Words to communicate,

Without needing

Any speech.

9

You take and

Hug me,

As I lie

On your lap.

10

When that

Comfort touches

My heart gently,

It brings peace.

11

I should

Fall on your shoulder

And sleep

All through my life.

12

When I cry

With many tears,

Your hands should

Wipe them away.

13

Comforting me

Slowly each day,

Helping me to

Accept the pain of loss.

14

You should

Carry me,

And protect me,

Removing this pain.

2-1-2023, Gurukulam, 7.30 p.m.

BT Song 1468 You Are Comforting

 Classical English Version:

1

I know well

Thou dost carry me,

I clearly perceive

Thou dost guide me.

2

Yet still, within

My heart is pain,

This too thou

Knowest full well.

3

Who is there

To comfort a child

That mourns

Its lost mother?

4

Can any human

Possess the skill

To fill

That void?

5

None is there

On this earth

To compensate

The loss of my mother.

6

But thy

Lap is there

For me to

Rest my head.

7

Each day thou dost

Comfort me,

Like a mother

Touching my head.

8

With no need

For words to speak,

With no need

For speech at all.

9

Thou dost take and

Hold me,

As I lie

On thy lap.

10

When that

Comfort touches

Gently my heart,

It brings peace.

11

I should

Fall upon thy shoulder

And sleep

All through my life.

12

When I cry

With many tears,

Thy hands should

Wipe them away.

13

Each day thou dost

Comfort me slowly,

Helping me to

Accept the pain of loss.

14

Thou shouldst

Carry me,

And protect me,

Removing this pain.

BT Song 1469

A newborn infant recognizes only the ‘smells’ of its mother [particularly the sweat of the mother], and it finds comfort only when she hugs it. The touch of flesh, which begins from there, continues till the end of life for it. Of course, a mother need not and won’t touch her child all through life, but the special relationship that develops from the womb will continue till the child lives, even after the mother has gone. Some recognize it, but most will remember it only at a subconscious level. This is neither science nor philosophy; this is my experience in life. Though many claim that time will make one forget everything, the memory of a mother is very difficult to forget.

BT Song 1469 Finding in You

 Simple English Version:

1

Though it’s said that

Time will make us forget,

Your protection

Is always there.

2

The memory of a mother

Doesn’t fade easily,

And only a child

Knows this well.

3

No relationship

Is like that of a mother,

And I cannot forget

Her love so easily.

4

Though the word ‘relationship’

Is common,

There is no explanation

For a mother’s bond.

5

She always remains

Before us,

Giving the vision of God

Who is unseen.

6

Though her breath is gone,

The relationship continues,

And she continues to give

The vision of God.

7

I never had

A physical experience of you,

But I feel you

In her love.

8

That experience will

Always stay with me,

And I will get

Your vision through it.

9

You bestowed

This blessing so far,

And you will help me

Experience it continuously.

10

Though one day

My body may also go,

When I finally

Come to you,

11

I will receive

That experience permanently,

When I will

Mingle with you.

12

Till that time

In this world of trials,

Remembering my mother

And depending on you,

13

Seeing my mother’s love

In you,

I should experience my mother

In you.

Gurukulam, 3-1-2023, 6.00 am

BT Song 1469 Finding in You

 Classical English Version:

1

Though it is claimed

That time doth make us forget,

And thy protection

Is ever nigh,

2

The memory of a mother

Doth not so easily fade,

And this truth

A child doth well know.

3

No bond exists

As that of a mother,

Nor can her love

Be so easily forgot.

4

Though the term ‘relationship’

Be common,

No words suffice

To describe a mother’s bond.

5

She doth ever stand

Before us,

Providing the vision of God,

Who remains unseen.

6

Though her breath hath ceased,

The bond persists,

And she continueth

To grant the vision of God.

7

Never have I

Had a physical experience of thee,

Yet I perceive thee

In her love.

8

That experience shall

Ever remain with me,

And through it,

Thy vision I shall receive.

9

This blessing thou hast

Bestowed thus far,

And thou shalt aid me

To continually experience it.

10

Though one day my body

May also pass away,

When I at last

Come unto thee,

11

That experience I shall

Permanently receive,

When I shall

Mingle with thee.

12

Till that time,

In this world of trials,

Remembering my mother

And relying on thee,

13

Beholding my mother’s love

In thee,

I should find

My mother in thee.

Gurukulam, 3-1-2023, 6.00 am

BT Song 1470

The problem with God is that He doesn’t have certain human experiences. So, instead of giving practical solutions, He will give some philosophical answers through Scripture or bhakti. But that is not enough for me. I always wanted to go along with my mother and several times prayed this prayer. But as usual, as He denied several of my prayers by giving only a big ‘NO’ as the answer, this time He also did the same. This night, as I sat alone without my mother in the very same room in which she passed away, this was my wrestle with God. Among all the relationships, I always enjoyed my relationship with her as my MOTHER.

BT Song 1470 Remain as My Mother

 Simple English Version:

1

I asked you many times

That I should go

Along with my mother,

Why keep me here?

2

What will you gain

By keeping me

After she has

Left this world?

3

You’ll use me

As a display,

Saying this is

Your usual play.

4

That’s why I ask now,

Will you give

The same reply

As before?

5

Since you left

Before your mother,

You won’t understand

This pain.

6

How can even a God

Live on this earth

Without a mother

To care for?

7

You didn’t experience

Certain human feelings,

So you don’t

Understand this pain.

8

No philosophy

Can help here,

Give me some

Practical solution.

9

When you handed

Your mother to others,

To whom will you

Hand me over?

10

There’s no substitute

For her,

And I don’t need

Any substitute for you.

11

I have no more

Attachments now,

Even if I do,

My heart isn’t seeking them.

12

So until

I am gone,

Better you continue

To be my mother.

Gurukulam, 3-1-2022, 11.00 am

BT Song 1470 Remain as My Mother

 Classical English Version:

1

I entreated thee oft,

That with my mother

I should depart;

Why dost thou keep me here?

2

What dost thou gain

By holding me

Once she hath

Departed this world?

3

Thou wilt make of me

A mere display,

Claiming this is

Thy customary play.

4

Thus I ask now,

Wilt thou give

The same reply

As erstwhile?

5

Since thou didst leave

Before thy mother,

Thou knowest not

This sorrow profound.

6

How can even a deity

Abide on this earth

Without the care

Of a mother?

7

Thou didst not partake

Of certain mortal experiences,

Thus thou comprehendest not

This grief.

8

No philosophy avails

In this plight,

Proffer me some

Practical remedy.

9

As thou didst consign

Thy mother to others’ care,

To whom wilt thou

Commit my charge?

10

There is no substitute

For her,

Nor do I seek

A surrogate for thee.

11

Attachments are no more,

Even if they persist,

My heart no longer

Seeks them.

12

Therefore, until

My end draws near,

‘Tis best thou remainest

As my mother dear.

அள்ளி எடுத்து

அணைத்தாய் நீயும்

10

அந்த அணைப்பு

தந்திடும் ஆறுதல்

செஞ்சை வருடி

தந்திடும் போது

11

கண்களை மூடி

தோளில் சாய்ந்து

காலம் முழுதும்

உறங்க வேண்டும்

12

கண்ணிர் சிந்தி

கதறும் போது

உன்னிரு கரங்கள்

துடைக்க வேண்டும்

13

மெல்ல மெல்ல

தேறுதல் தந்து

இழப்பின் வலியைத்

தாக்க வைத்து

14

தூக்கிச் சுமந்து

தாங்க வேண்டும்

துயரை நீக்கி

காக்க வேண்டும்

 BT Song 1469 உன்னிலே கண்டு

1

காலம் மறந்திடும்

என்று சொன்னாலும்

உன்காவல் இருக்கு

என்று புரிந்தாலும்

2

தாயின் நினைவு

அகலாது என்றும்

ஒருசேய் மட்டுமே

புரிந்திடும் இதையும்

3

அன்னைபோல் உறவு

அவனியில் இல்லை

அவளின் அன்பை

மறக்க முடியலை

4

உறவென்ற சொல்லும்

பொதுவான போதும்

அவளின் உறவுக்கு

விளக்கமே இல்லை

5

கண்ணில் காணாத

தெய்வத்தைக் காட்டும்

கடவுளாய் நம்முன்

அவளும் இருப்பாள்

6

உடல் பிரிந்தாலும்

உறவு தொடர்வதால்

தெய்வத்தை அவளே

தொடர்ந்து காட்டுவாள்

7

உன்னைத் தொட்டு

உணராத போதும்

அவளின் அணைப்பில்

உன்னை உணர்ந்தேன்

8

அந்த உணர்வு

என்றும் இருக்கும்

அதிலே உனது

காட்சி கிடைக்கும்

9

இந்த பேற்றினை

இதுவரைத் தந்தாய்

இந்த உணர்வு

தொடர வைப்பாய்

10

ஒருநாள் எனது

உடலும் மறைந்து

உன்னோடு வந்து

சேர்ந்திடும் போது

11

நிரந்தரமாக இருந்திடும்

நீங்காகாத உணர்வு

உன்னுடன் கலக்க

எனக்கும் கிடைக்கும்

12

அதுவரை இந்த

பாடுள்ள உலகில்

அன்னையை நினைந்து

உன்னையே சார்ந்து

13

தாயின் அன்பை

உன்னிலே கண்டு

உன்னிலே தாயை

உணர வேண்டும்

 BT Song 1470 அன்னையாய் இருப்பாய்

1

தாயோடு சேர்ந்து

போக வேண்டும்

என்றே உன்னை

நானும் வேண்டினேன்

2

10

அவளுக்கு மாற்று

எவரும் இல்லை

நீயன்றி யாரும்

தேவையும் இல்லை

11

உறவு பந்தம்

இனியொன்றும் இல்லை

இருந்தாலும் என்மனம்

அதை நாடவில்லை

12

ஆகவே நானும்

போகின்ற வரையில்

அன்னையாய் நீயே

என்றும் இருப்பாய்
