BT Songs 1481 to 1485

BT Song 1481:

This morning, I found myself crying again when I sat alone for a while. I began to wonder if I’m facing a psychological issue since I struggle to control my tears whenever I think about my mother. Even when busy with other tasks, her memory suddenly overwhelms me, and I cry. Do I need counseling or medication to overcome this emotion? I’m unsure. However, after crying, I felt inspired to write this poem expressing my thoughts. Upon reflection, I realized that this relationship is ordained by God, and my heart needs to counsel my mind that this pain of separation is not new and not unique to me. Throughout history and in contemporary times, many have expressed their grief over the separation of their loved ones in various ways.

 BT Song 1481 Very Difficult

 Simple English Version:

1

Who can understand

My pain?

Who can understand

My sorrow?

2

It is very difficult

To be separated

From the relationship

That became one within us.

3

I know for sure that

Those who have gone will never come back.

Indeed, it is good

That they have gone.

4

But did you understand that

This relationship

Is refusing

To go away?

5

Tell me, where there

Is no relationship,

Can living beings

Live without a relationship?

6

Who established

This rule that

One should be born

Only through others?

7

If the relationship is gone,

Can the living being survive?

Can this world also move

Without a relationship?

8

Why even a sannyasi

Needs disciples?

See, there is also

Some kind of relationship.

9

How many questions

Were asked so far?

How many answers

Were given for them?

10

Once the question

And answer ends,

Each one continued

Their own relationship.

11

This my argument

Is applicable only to me.

I alone understand

What my heart tells.

12

My intellect

Knows for sure that

The question is mine

And the answer is also mine.

13

Therefore through

This pain,

The heart will give

Counsel to the intellect.

14

As one understood

The other,

The comfort has

Come back to me.

BT Song 1481 Very Difficult

 Classical English Version:

1

Who can comprehend

My pain?

Who can fathom

My sorrow?

2

‘Tis very difficult

To part from

The bond that

Made us one.

3

I know well that

Those who have departed shall not return.

Indeed, it is well

That they have gone.

4

But hast thou understood

That this bond

Refuses

To depart?

5

Pray tell, where there

Is no bond,

Can beings

Exist without such a bond?

6

Who decreed

This law that

One must be born

Through another?

7

If the bond is severed,

Can the living survive?

Can the world itself

Move without a bond?

8

Why even a sannyasi

Requires disciples?

Behold, there is also

Some form of bond.

9

How many questions

Have been posed?

How many answers

Given for them?

10

When question

And answer cease,

Each continues

Their own bond.

11

This argument of mine

Is known only to me.

I alone understand

What my heart whispers.

12

My intellect

Knows with certainty that

The question is mine,

And the answer is also mine.

13

Thus through

This pain,

The heart shall give

Counsel to the intellect.

14

As one understands

The other,

Comfort returns

To me.

BT Song 1482:

While contemplating my mother’s separation from me, I remembered a Tamil song by Ramalinga Vallalar. I had sung the same song during a puja for my mother on January 14th, 2023, arranged by Sri Umapathy, our village head, here in the ashram. Then, I wrote this song in viraha bhava about the pain of separation if He forgets and leaves me alone.

Even a child forgot its mother

Similarly even a mother forgot her child

Even if the life forgot the body in which it abides

Similarly the body that depends upon the life forgot it

Even if the heart forgot all the learnings

Even if the eye lids stop blinking

I will never forgot ‘Nama Sivayam’

That dwells in the heart of learned [my own translation]

BT Song 1482 I Am Babbling

 Simple English Version:

1

When I never

Forgot you,

How come you

Have forgotten me?

2

Since you stayed

In my heart constantly,

Why have you now

Gone away from me?

3

“I will never

Leave you alone,

I will never

Forget you.”

4

Once we both

Mingled together,

Where is there

Any place for separation?

5

You alone said this,

Did you forget it?

Can you now

Deny your words?

6

I am waiting for you,

Won’t you come to me?

Will you make me

Shed more tears?

7

Not allowing me

To shed more tears,

Thinking of you often

Because of my devotion,

8

Will you add

More pain of separation,

And make me

Cry even more?

9

As we mingled

Due to love,

I shed

Tears of joy.

10

A kind of bliss

Spreads through my body,

I become speechless,

Melting away.

11

You should bestow

This kind of life again,

For that, you should

Return to me.

12

Even a mother

Could forget her child,

Both might be

Separated one day.

13

But how can you

Forget me, who loves

More than a mother?

This, I cannot bear.

14

Don’t be upset,

As I babble

Words out of longing,

Yearning for you.

15

Never forget

To bestow a life

That knows no separation,

Not even for a moment.

Gurukulam, 27-1-2023, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1482 I Am Babbling

 Classical English Version:

1

When I ne’er

Forgot thee,

How hast thou

Forgotten me?

2

Since thou didst dwell

In my heart unceasingly,

Why hast thou now

Departed from me?

3

“I shall never

Leave thee alone,

Nor shall I

Forget thee.”

4

Once we both

Were intertwined,

Wherefore is there

Room for separation?

5

These words thou didst utter,

Hast thou forgotten them?

Canst thou now

Deny thy promise?

6

I await thy coming,

Wilt thou not seek me?

Wilt thou cause

More tears to fall?

7

Not allowing me

To weep further,

Thinking of thee often

In my devotion,

8

Wilt thou add

More pangs of separation,

And make me

Weep more bitterly?

9

As we mingled

In love’s embrace,

I shed

Tears of joy.

10

A certain bliss

Spreads through my being,

I melt away,

Speechless.

11

Thou shouldst bestow

This life once more,

Thus, thou must

Return to me.

12

Even a mother

May forget her child,

And they might be

Parted one day.

13

But how canst thou

Forget me, who loves

Thee more than a mother?

This, I cannot endure.

14

Do not be troubled,

For my babbling

Is born of longing,

Yearning for thee.

15

Ne’er forget

To bestow a life

That knows no separation,

Not even for a moment.

Gurukulam, 27-1-2023, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1483:

Generally, I never light oil lamps before any deity, neither now nor in the past. Like my father, I haven’t performed proper puja since my childhood, although I spent time chanting slokas, mantras, and Tamil Scriptures. My mother knew this well, and her concern was that after she passed away, there wouldn’t be anyone to continue her legacy or family tradition of lighting lamps in her puja place. So, I set up my own puja place in the same room where my mother stayed and passed away, with my parents’ photo and the bronze image of Nataraja, her favorite deity. I started lighting a lamp in front of their photo, not as an act of worship but to pay respect to their memory and ensure the continuity of her legacy. This morning, after bathing, I lit the oil lamp and couldn’t control my tears. After sitting down, I wrote this poem.

 BT Song 1483 My Prayaschitta

 Simple English Version:

1

Shedding tears

For you,

Lamenting often,

Thinking of you.

2

I am living

A life for me,

But I am worn out

Thinking about you.

3

Nothing has happened

That’s new for me,

It didn’t happen

To others.

4

But my heart

Refuses comfort,

It longed for you

All the time.

5

How long this

Sorrow will remain,

I don’t know

For sure.

6

But Amma,

It is not easy

For me to forget you,

It won’t happen quickly.

7

Are the one

Or two,

All the sacrifices

You made for me?

8

Each day you

Lived for me,

In the end,

You left only from staying with me.

9

My other siblings

Could think about you

As I think

About you often.

10

But the relationship

That we had

Will always remain

Special for us.

11

You bestowed

An opportunity,

Which none would

Easily get.

12

Though I failed

Several times,

Still you lived with me,

Adjusting a lot.

13

I won’t get

Another opportunity

Like that

Again in life.

14

Therefore, Amma,

I am crying each day,

This alone is happening,

What else can I do?

15

This sorrow is also,

In one way, good for me,

In this is

My Prayaschitta.

16

Therefore, shedding

Tears often,

I will see the comfort

That you will give to me.

Gurukulam, 28-1-2023, 8.00 am

 BT Song 1483 My Prayaschitta

 Classical English Version:

1

Shedding tears

For thee,

Lamenting oft,

Thinking of thee.

2

I live

A life for me,

Yet I am wearied,

Thinking of thee.

3

Nothing new

Hath occurred for me,

It did not happen

To others.

4

Yet my heart

Refuses solace,

It longed for thee

Evermore.

5

How long this

Sorrow shall endure,

I know not

With certainty.

6

But, Amma,

It is not easy

For me to forget thee,

It shan’t occur swiftly.

7

Are they the one

Or two,

All the sacrifices

Thou didst make for me?

8

Each day thou

Lived for me,

In the end,

Thou departed from my side.

9

My other kin

Might think of thee

As I do

Frequently.

10

But the bond

That we shared

Shall ever remain

Special for us.

11

Thou didst bestow

An opportunity,

Which none would

Easily gain.

12

Though I failed

Oftentimes,

Still thou didst dwell with me,

Adjusting greatly.

13

I shan’t receive

Another opportunity

Like that

Again in life.

14

Therefore, Amma,

I weep each day,

This alone is happening,

What else can I do?

15

This sorrow too,

In one way, is good for me,

In this lies

My Prayaschitta.

16

Therefore, shedding

Tears often,

I shall find comfort

In the solace thou shalt grant me.

BT Song 1484:

Mother is unique, and no narratives are needed to explain this. Life will remain empty without her, as no one can replace that relationship in our lives.

 BT Song 1484 Celebrate Mother

 Simple English Version:

1

Life without a mother

Will be uncomfortable.

Without a mother,

Life will be empty.

2

Though many

Relationships come and go,

Nothing can replace

The relationship of a mother.

3

Carrying us in

Her body,

Filling her heart

With love.

4

Renouncing herself,

Denying many pleasures,

Who else is there like a mother

To take care of us?

5

Whether a pauper

Or a king,

They all remain

Only a child to her.

6

She does not know

To differentiate;

She upholds

All the relatives.

7

She surpasses

Even the earth in patience,

Making us see

God through her compassion.

8

Which other relationship

Would even God

Seek

Other than a mother?

9

Even God

Attains higher status

When He comes

As a mother.

10

Only those who

Have lost her

Understand

Her nobleness.

11

When she is alive,

They do not serve her;

Once she is gone,

What can they do for her?

12

All other losses

Can be replaced,

But once we lose our mother,

Only emptiness remains.

13

When she is with us,

Realize this,

And think that

This opportunity is given by God.

14

Keep in mind

That without a mother,

Life will become

Barren.

15

Do not lament

After she is gone.

When she is alive,

Celebrate her by bowing to her.

Gurukulam, 7-02-2023, 7.30 a.m.

 BT Song 1484 Celebrate Mother

 Classical English Version:

1

A life devoid of mother

Shall grow uncomfortable.

Without a mother,

Life shall be empty.

2

Though many

Relationships come and go,

None can replace

The bond of a mother.

3

She carries us

Within her form,

Filling her heart

With boundless love.

4

Renouncing herself,

Forsaking many pleasures,

Who else but a mother

Tends to us thus?

5

Be he pauper

Or king,

To her they all remain

But children.

6

She knows not

To differentiate;

She upholds

All her kin.

7

Her patience surpasses

Even the earth;

In her compassion,

We glimpse the divine.

8

What other bond

Would even God

Seek

Than that of a mother?

9

Even God

Attains higher stature

When He assumes

The role of mother.

10

Only those who

Have lost her

Comprehend

Her nobleness.

11

While she lives,

They do not serve her;

When she departs,

What remains to be done?

12

All other losses

Can be mended,

But the loss of a mother

Leaves only emptiness.

13

When she is with us,

Acknowledge this,

Seeing it as

A divine gift.

14

Bear in mind

That without a mother,

Life turns

Barren.

15

Lament not

When she is gone.

While she lives,

Celebrate her with reverence.

BT Song 1485:

As I sleep in the same room where my mother lived and passed away, memories of our life together often flood my mind. The last few minutes of her life frequently replay before my eyes. On that day, after resting, I saw my mother, and my sister told me, “Amma’s oxygen levels and pulse are fluctuating. She hasn’t eaten since morning, so try giving her some milk.” The word “finally” struck me. I warmed milk and gave her three spoons; she took them all. Suddenly, the oxygen meter stopped, and my sister said, “Amma passed away, waiting for you to give her milk one last time.” Though meant to comfort me, that scene haunts me, as I’ve never witnessed death so closely. I didn’t see my eldest brother and father pass away, and I never understood what death meant until now. Witnessing my mother’s peaceful death in the place she wanted, I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve her until the end. However, thinking about her final moments makes me cry uncontrollably. Fortunately, I’m alone, so I can cry freely. I know life goes on, and tears won’t bring her back. I wonder if I need counseling or medication to overcome this emotional outburst. But I believe seeking help won’t work for me, as I have faith in my greatest psychologist – the Lord. After shedding tears, I quietly asked Him to comfort me, heal me from within, and help me overcome these emotions. I warned Him to consider this an emergency and not postpone His answer, or He might end up staying with me permanently, unable to attend to others. With a sense of humor, I completed the poem, smiled, and got up to do other work.

BT Song 1481
