BT Song 1486
My mother often said, “If I am gone, you will become an orphan. Better you come with me.” Of course, no mother would typically think or say this. However, my mother was a bit different. When my father was alive, she used to say, “Even if I become a widow, somehow I will manage, but I don’t want your father to live if I die before him. He won’t ask anything from anyone, and who will take care of him?” The only prayer of most Indian married women is to die as a ‘sumangali’, while their husband is still alive. But she preferred widowhood because she knew my father’s nature. He wouldn’t ask for food or anything else. Unless my mother called him for a meal, no matter the delay, he wouldn’t ask about food. The same applied to other things; he wouldn’t even ask my mother or anyone to bring him water. Till the end, he drank water with his own hand. My mother often lamented, “He won’t ask for anything.” She preferred to manage on her own rather than see him suffer. I reflected on her wish, which has also become my everyday prayer to God—to take me at the earliest as there is no meaning or purpose for my life anymore. As tears came, I wrote this song, teasing and blaming God for my continuing existence on this earth.
BT Song 1486 I Will Complete
Simple English Version:
1
You have gone,
Thinking that
If you stay alive,
Troubles will increase.
2
But you forgot
The trouble that came
To me after
You left.
3
If we come,
We must go—this I know.
We came
Only for this, it’s clear to me.
4
But when we lived,
We were together.
But when you left,
You left me alone.
5
How is this
Justifiable?
Why did you
Forget this?
6
You told me many times
To come along with you
When you would be
Gone from this earth.
7
But leaving me
Alone to live,
You went
On your own.
8
I know that
You don’t have
The right to
Take me with you.
9
So you gave
A relationship
For me to think
And cry for you.
10
I saw your
Love there,
And this way, I will
Find consolation.
11
But this life
Without you
Has indeed become
A burden for me.
12
Therefore it is
Only good for me
If I come
To you soon.
13
I was praying
To God
When He will give
That opportunity to me.
14
If I come
This early,
My burden will only
Increase more.
15
By saying this,
As God made
Me live further,
What to say about His act?
16
Alright, let it be,
What else can I do
Other than live
As long as He keeps me here?
17
But let’s see
How long He can
Dodge this,
My request.
18
When my living
Itself becomes
A burden to Him,
He will call, and then we will meet.
19
Till that time,
Writing like this,
I will find
My solace in it.
20
Till then, I will
Continue to live,
And somehow complete this life
By His grace.

BT Song 1486 I Will Complete
Classical English Version:
1
Thou hast departed,
Thinking thus,
That if thou remainest alive,
Troubles will but increase.
2
Yet thou didst forget
The woe that came
To me after
Thy departure.
3
We come,
And thus we must go—this I know.
We came
Solely for this, it is clear to me.
4
But when we dwelled,
We were together.
When thou didst leave,
Thou left me alone.
5
How is this
Justifiable?
Why didst thou
Forget this?
6
Many times thou didst
Entreat me to accompany thee
When thou wouldst
Depart from this earth.
7
Yet, leaving me
Alone to live,
Thou didst depart
On thine own.
8
I know that
Thou hast not
The right to
Take me with thee.
9
Thus thou gavest
A bond,
That I might ponder
And weep for thee.
10
I saw thy
Love therein,
And in this, I shall
Find solace.
11
Yet this life
Without thee
Hath indeed become
A burden unto me.
12
Therefore, it is
Only good for me
If I come
Unto thee soon.
13
I have prayed
To God,
When He will grant
That opportunity unto me.
14
If I come
Thus early,
My burden will only
Increase more.
15
By saying this,
As God hath made
Me live further,
What to say of His act?
16
So be it, let it pass,
What else may I do
Other than live
As long as He keepeth me here?
17
But let us see
How long He can
Evade this,
My request.
18
When my living
Becomes
A burden unto Him,
He will call, and then we shall meet.
19
Until that time,
By writing thus,
I shall find
My solace.
20
Until then, I shall
Continue to live,
And somehow complete this life
By His grace.

BT Song 1487
Bhakti alone provides various experiences and imaginations that theology cannot, to express or even understand one’s relationship with God. It is expressed more in terms of human relationships and experiences. One such scenario is the way both a child and mother act, as if cheating and getting cheated. Even though a child does it with much innocence, a mother does it deliberately, enjoying the act of her child. But a grown-up bhakta enjoys even more the way God acts, as if we managed to cheat Her by pretending She does not know. What a beautiful way to express our bhakti with Bhagavan.
BT Song 1487: What a Drama
Simple English
1. What is the use
Of blaming now,
After you spoiled me
With too much pampering?
2. Though I told you often,
To give in measure,
Not doing so,
What is the use of being upset now?
3. Once given,
You cannot take it back,
When you know this well.
4. At the same time,
You cannot deny,
When I ask you to provide.
5. Do not regret,
What has happened,
I am not as bad,
As you think.
6. I may be stubborn,
And trouble you often.
7. I may refuse,
What you offer,
But I will demand,
What you refuse to give.
8. When every child does the same,
How am I different?
9. Let the past remain,
And henceforth,
Be careful with me.
10. Rear me as a good child,
Providing only what is necessary.
11. Be careful,
So that I may not cheat you,
By pleading or pestering.
12. A child knows how to cheat,
And a mother knows that trick well.
13. Allowing herself to be cheated,
Pretending to be deceived,
A mother rejoices.
14. As I too know well your drama,
I will often cheat you.
15. I will enjoy your act,
As if you were cheated by me.
16. Thus, we both,
Will enjoy this play.

BT Song 1488
Indifference in human relationships is quite normal, as one cannot always expect the desired response to one’s needs. However, this is not true in bhakti. In bhakti, both Bhagavan and bhakta always respond to each other’s needs without ignoring the other. But sometimes a bhakta feels that God has let her down by remaining indifferent to her needs or situation. Unlike human relationships, where we might get upset and create distance, a bhakta can freely express this to God. In bhakti, one does not need to keep any distance from God, and I express this in my own way.
BT Song 1488 Amidst Evidences
Simple English Version:
1
When so much evidences
Is already here,
What new thing
Can you provide?
2
Shall I quote
From the Vedas,
Or show once more
The happenings of life?
3
Or shall I list
All the good deeds
Done for others,
To make my point clear?
4
Such stubbornness
Is not fitting for you.
How did it come to you?
Tell me that.
5
If you hear something new,
You might reject it,
But how can you deny
The promise you made?
6
You have
A thousand tasks,
And many burdens
Upon you.
7
I have never
Denied this,
Nor asked you
To bear them alone.
8
But if you push me away
In such a manner,
I cannot
Stay without anger.
9
If you say my anger is just,
Then why is mine
Wrong?
Tell me that.
10
When justice is
Common to all,
How can it
Be different for me?
11
No matter how many times
I speak and plead,
Or how much
I lament,
12
My voice
Never reaches your ears.
Why this indifference?
Tell me that.
13
I know well
What must be done
For things to work.
Tell me that.
14
If I repeat the same,
You will receive
More evidence
For that
15
Tell me what to do,
And until then,
I shall
Maintain peace.

BT Song 1488 Amidst Evidences
Classical English Version:
1
When such evidences
Doth abound,
What novel boon
Canst thou offer?
2
Shall I cite
From the Vedas,
Or recount anew
The occurrences of life?
3
Or shall I recount
The good deeds rendered
To others,
To elucidate my point?
4
Such obstinacy
Befits thee not.
How didst it arise in thee?
Pray, tell me that.
5
If thou dost hear aught new,
Thou mayst refuse it,
But how canst thou deny
The promise thou gavest?
6
Thou hast
A thousand tasks,
And manifold burdens
Upon thee.
7
Never have I
Denied this,
Nor asked thee
To bear them alone.
8
Yet if thou dost
Push me aside thus,
I cannot
Remain without ire.
9
If thou sayest my wrath is just,
Then why is mine
Erroneous?
Tell me that.
10
When justice
Is common to all,
How can it
Differ for me?
11
No matter how oft
I speak and implore,
Or how deeply
I lament,
12
My voice
Never reaches thine ears.
Why this indifference?
Tell me that.
13
I know full well
What must be done
For things to come to pass.
Pray, tell me that.
14
If I repeat the same,
Thou shalt receive
Abundance
As have I.
15
Tell me what must be done,
And until then,
I shall
Keep my peace.

BT Song 1489
The beauty of human nature is that it can think and at the same time understand the limitations of thinking. To know oneself, one must go beyond oneself, even beyond God, seeking something that cannot be comprehended or articulated. This stage is called ‘Thuriyata’ in the Upanishads (Mandukya Upanishad 7-12). Sometimes, when I sit calmly, I want to go beyond everything to reach that stage beyond consciousness. But how to experience or express that is beyond any kind of expression. Only a question can be asked, not showing any outside guidance to reach that stage.
The four stages of consciousness in Hinduism are:
1. Jagrutha (awakening): The state of being awake and aware of one’s surroundings.
2. Svapna (dreaming): The state of dreaming, where the mind is partially conscious and experiences vivid mental images.
3. Sushupti (deep sleep): The state of deep sleep, where the mind is completely unconscious and unaware of surroundings.
4. Turiya (the fourth state): A state beyond the three mentioned above, often described as a state of pure consciousness or enlightenment.
Turiyātita, mentioned in your question, refers to a state beyond Turiya, often described as the ultimate state of liberation or Self-Realization.
Here are the original Sanskrit verses with English translations:
Verse 7:
Transliteration: nāntaḥprajñaṃ na bahiḥprajñaṃ nobhayataḥprajñaṃ na prajñānaghanam na prajñaṃ nāprajñam |
no vijñātaṃ nāvijñātaṃ na vijñātāvijñātaṃ na vijñātaṃ nāvijñātaṃ na vijñātaṃ nāvijñātam |
… (verses 8-11 describe the characteristics of Turiya)
Verse 12:
Transliteration: nāntaḥprajñaṃ na bahiḥprajñaṃ nobhayataḥprajñaṃ na prajñānaghanam na prajñaṃ nāprajñam |
turīyātītaḥ turīyo’taḥ turīyaḥ turīyātītaḥ turīyaḥ |
Here is Dr. Radhakrishnan’s translation and commentary on Mandukya Upanishad, verses 7-12:
Verse 7:
“Neither inwardly cognitive nor outwardly cognitive, nor both-wise cognitive, nor a cognition-mass, nor cognitive, nor non-cognitive; unseen, with which there can be no dealing, ungraspable, having no distinctive mark, non-thinkable, that cannot be designated, the essence of the assurance of which is the state of being one with the Self, the cessation of development, tranquil, benign, without a second (such is the Atman) he is the Self, he should be discerned.”
Commentary: “The Self is not an object of cognition, nor is it the subject of cognition. It is not a combination of both, nor is it a mass of cognition. It is not knowable, nor is it unknowable. It is beyond all predicates, unseen, ungraspable, without any distinctive mark, unthinkable, and indescribable.”
… (verses 8-11 are similarly translated and commented upon)
Verse 12:
“Beyond the three, the fourth (Turiya) is the Self, the knowing, the one that knows. It is the Self that knows the three states of consciousness, and it is the witness of the three states. It is the one that knows, and it is the Self.”
Commentary: “The fourth state, Turiya, is the ultimate reality, beyond the three states of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. It is the Self that knows the three states, and it is the witness of the three states. It is the one that knows, and it is the Self.”—The Principal Upanishads,

BT Song 1489 Far Beyond
Simple English Version:
1
It is difficult
To understand this feeling,
And even harder
To explain it to others.
2
An inexplicable longing
Torments my heart,
For reasons
Unknown to me.
3
What is this need,
I cannot tell;
Whether it is of the mind
Or the soul, I do not know.
4
The intellect does not
Comprehend it,
Yet the soul
Suffers greatly.
5
No one
Can aid me,
Nor can God
Intervene in this matter.
6
Seeking resolution
Within myself,
I go beyond
Both inward and outward.
7
This subtle state,
Spinning in the void,
Is known only
To the soul.
8
To transcend this feeling,
And remain still,
Only then can the soul
Find peace.
9
Though this longing
Fades away,
Reaching that state
Is difficult indeed.
10
Seeking and searching,
Cease all,
And abandon the thought
Of self.
11
Only when
It seeks you out,
Can you find peace,
As I have.

BT Song 1489 Far Beyond
Classical English Version:
1
To fathom this feeling
Is indeed arduous,
And to impart it
Unto others, more so.
2
An inscrutable yearning
Afflicts my heart,
For reasons
Unbeknownst to me.
3
What is this need,
I cannot discern;
Whether of the mind
Or the soul, I know not.
4
The intellect fails
To grasp it,
Yet the soul
Doth greatly suffer.
5
None
Can render aid,
Nor can the Divine
Intervene in this matter.
6
Seeking resolution
Within myself,
I transcend
Both inner and outer realms.
7
This subtle state,
Whirling in the void,
Is known solely
To the soul.
8
To transcend this feeling,
And abide in stillness,
Only then may the soul
Find repose.
9
Though this longing
Doth fade,
To attain that state
Is indeed challenging.
10
Cease all seeking
And searching,
And forsake
The thought of self.
11
Only when it
Doth seek thee out,
May thou find peace,
As have I.

BT Song 1490
Bhakti gives even the freedom to threaten God, to take action against Him if He fails to meet my expectations. As my father was an auditor, and I used to help him in his auditing work during my school and college days (to earn some extra pocket money, though I was completely uninterested), and now keeping ashram accounts and preparing and submitting accounts for auditing, I found a metaphor to threaten God. In India, filing IT returns and struggling to balance both income and expenditure is a nightmare for several people who have to submit reports for Income Tax.
BT Song 1490 Tally the account
Simple English Version
Stanza 1
I take a deep breath
and feel sad,
But still, your heart
doesn’t change.
Stanza 2
You created us.
Did you get this nature from us?
Stanza 3
Or did you come like us
And receive our nature?
Stanza 4
Whatever answer you give,
My heart won’t accept it, and you know this.
Stanza 5
You can’t blame me.
You should understand this well.
Stanza 6
Long patience and extra mercy
With compassion and endless grace.
Stanza 7
Someone with all these traits
Is called God, the world says.
Stanza 8
Did they say this
Because you lack them?
Stanza 9
Did they praise you
Just to get favors from you?
Stanza 10
Even after seeing everything,
Did they praise you for nothing?
Stanza 11
No matter how much I lament or pester you,
I know your usual answer.
Stanza 12
You asked me to remember
Everything you have done.
Stanza 13
But what I got and what is still to come,
There is a big difference.
Stanza 14
The balance sheet doesn’t match
Income and expenses, how to audit?
Stanza 15
You should match your accounts
Or be ready for proper auditing.
Stanza 16
Many angels will come to question you,
Asking many questions.
Stanza 17
How will you face them
When you can’t even face me?
Stanza 18
You know about the angel
You assigned to me.
Stanza 19
If we join together,
Your condition will get worse.
BT Song 1490 Tally the account
Classical English Version
Stanza 1
Though I take a deep sigh and lament,
Still thy heart is not melting.
Stanza 2
As thou hast created us,
Didst thou also inherit this nature like us?
Stanza 3
Or, as thou camest like us,
Didst thou receive this our nature?
Stanza 4
Whichever answer thou might give,
My heart own accept it not, this thou knowest for sure.
Stanza 5
Thou also canst not escape by blaming me,
Better thou also understand this well.
Stanza 6
Long suffering and added to it more mercy,
Along with compassion and unlimited Grace.
Stanza 7
He who hath all these characters alone is God,
The world saith thus.
Stanza 8
Did they say this, that thou dost not possess these?
Stanza 9
As they sought to receive some boon from thee?
Stanza 10
Even after witnessing what doth transpire,
Did they ever praise thee in vain?
Stanza 11
How much I lament, how much I pester thee,
I know thy regular answer.
Stanza 12
Though thou asked me to think back,
What all thou hast done, by keeping a record.
Stanza 13
But what received so far and what yet to come,
There is a great deficit between the two.
Stanza 14
As the balance sheet doth not tally
Between income and expenses, how to do the auditing?
Stanza 15
Better thou tally thy account well,
Or be ready for proper auditing.
Stanza 16
Many angels will come for enquiry,
And they will drill thee, asking so many questions.
Stanza 17
How art thou going to face them,
As thou canst not even face my questions?
Stanza 18
Thou knowest well about the angel
That thou hast assigned for me specially.
Stanza 19
If we join together,
Then thy condition will become very worse indeed.

4
இத்தனை பிடிவாதம்
உனக்கே ஆகாது
எப்படி வந்தது
என்பதைக் கூறு
5
புதிதாக ஏதேனும்
கேட்டால் மறுக்கலாம்
தந்த வாக்கினை
எப்படி மறுக்கலாம்
6
ஆயிரம் வேலைகள்
உனக்கு உண்டு
அத்தோடு பலவித
பாரமும் உண்டு
7
அதனை நானும்
ஒருபோதும் மறுக்கலை
எனக்குத் தனியாக
செய்யச் சொல்லலை
8
ஆனால் இப்படி
அடியோடு ஒதுக்கினால்
ஆத்திரப்படாமல்
இருக்க முடியலை
9

18
நாங்கள் இருவரும்
ஒன்றாக சேர்ந்தால்
அதன்பின் உன்னிலை
மோசமாய்ப் போகும்
19
ஆகவே மீதம்
உள்ளதைத் தந்து
இப்போதே கணக்கை
சரியாகிக் கொள்ளு
