BT Songs 1491 to 1495

BT Song 1491

I often argue with the Lord about His responses to my complaints. I don’t want to compare His actions towards others. Since His relationship with me is unique, He should deal with me on those terms and not based on what He has done for others.

BT Song 1491: Unnecessary Arguments

1. For whatever reason,

You keep telling,

And placing many arguments

Before me.

2. You ask to turn

The history slightly,

And prepare many

Pieces of evidence.

3. Such arguments

Will not prevail before me,

Though you well know this.

4. Why waste

Time like this?

You give unnecessary explanations,

Thousands of them.

5. If compared to

What you did for others,

What you did for me

Is just a tiny bit.

6. Even if it is small,

A noble person

Will take it as

A large palm tree, said Valluvar.

7. What was said before,

Do I not know too?

Is it necessary

To remind me again?

8. How much was attained,

And how much was given,

These are not

My questions.

9. Since you asked

To turn history,

I slightly compared

And told you.

10. For whom you did what,

That is never

My question.

11. Even what you did

For me until now,

I never

Denied it.

12. When my need today

Is different,

What can be done

By looking at the past?

13. Without just listening

To what I ask,

If you give and avoid

Both arguments and debates,

14. Such songs as these

Will not need to be written,

And in the future,

There won’t be blame on us.

15. Do not waste time like this,

By singing and praising,

And without doing devotion.

BT Song 1492

I’ve written similar songs before, but this time, the Lord rebukes me for remaining as I am. However, He often forgets that He cannot easily handle an Argumentative Indian. Tamilians, in particular, are known for their argumentative nature. Eventually, He yields to His own challenge and does as I requested.

BT Song 1492: No More

1. With a desire to watch a play,

He put me on the stage.

2. If I act well,

The pleased God

Will surely grant

The boon I ask.

3. Thinking this,

I tried to act,

But failing,

I told Him:

4. ‘Let me be natural,

And stay before you always.

5. If you are pleased,

I will live well,

And I will surely do

Your will.’

6. Hearing this, God

Got angry and started

Scolding me before others:

7. ‘If acting is your nature,

How can you be natural?

8. Always finding fault with me,

And crying without stopping,

9. I thought to change you,

So I put you on stage now.

10. When with me,

And others watching,

You cannot be genuine.

11. Again, you will find fault with me,

And keep acting again and again.’

12. After God said this,

I calmly asked Him one thing.

13. Unable to answer,

He took me with Him.

14. Thinking if left alone,

I will fight again,

15. He always kept me before Him,

And kept an eye on me.

16. Only to Him,

I asked a question

That I cannot tell others.

17. From now on,

Putting me on stage

To act is also impossible for Him.

BT Song 1492: No More

1. With a desire to witness a play,

He did place me on the stage.

2. If I perform well,

The delighted Lord

Shall surely grant

The boon I ask.

3. Thus thinking,

I endeavored to act,

Yet failing,

I spoke unto Him:

4. ‘Allow me to remain natural,

And always stay before Thee.

5. If Thy heart be pleased,

I shall live well,

And I shall surely perform

Thy will.’

6. Upon hearing this, the Lord,

In anger,

Began to chide me before others:

7. ‘If acting is thy nature,

How canst thou be natural?

8. Always finding fault with me,

And weeping incessantly,

9. I thought to change thee,

Thus I placed thee on the stage now.

10. When in company with me,

And others beholding,

Thou canst not be sincere.

11. Again thou shalt find fault with me,

And continually act again and again.’

12. After the Lord spake thus,

I calmly enquired of Him one thing.

13. Unable to answer,

He did take me with Him.

14. Thinking if left alone,

I would argue once more,

15. He always kept me before Him,

And fixed His gaze upon me.

16. Only unto Him,

Did I ask a question

Which I cannot reveal unto others.

17. Henceforth,

Placing me on the stage

To act is impossible for Him also.

Gurukulam, 17-2-2023, morning, 11.00 am.

BT Song 1493

Sometimes, I feel the need to instruct God on what He should do with me. Despite His omniscience, I sense that there are aspects of me He cannot fully understand. Bhakti allows me this freedom to relate to the Lord as if He were one of us, rather than an abstract, distant entity.

BT Song 1493 Only I know

In your group of devotees,

And place me at one side.

Refine me,

And show me

In the desired form.

BT Song 1494

The Gita states that one’s own atman can be both friend and enemy. We are ultimately accountable for our words and actions. Without alignment between our views and actions, our words remain mere talk, and our attempts to act often falter. As someone once said, great people hold convictions while small people entertain opinions. Conviction can cost one’s life, whereas opinions only cause discomfort.

BT Song 1494 Strike a balance

1. When living as spoken,

Where is the room

For finding faults

In us?

2. When words and actions

Differ,

Why do others need

To find faults?

3. After the heart

Deceives itself,

Can it not

Punish itself?

4. After giving itself

A punishment,

Can it not

Correct itself?

5. Living as its own friend,

It can also

Turn into its own enemy.

6. Therefore, it cannot

Blame others;

It must correct

Itself.

7. So, to live with it

Daily,

One must walk

On a tightrope.

8. No matter how

Strong the staff in hand,

One must walk

Without stumbling.

9. Those who push

And watch the fun

Will not come to help

When one falls.

10. Even if they lift you up

After you fall,

They cannot support you

As you fall.

11. So, think and speak

Before proceeding,

And know

Your own state.

12. If it is concluded

That it cannot be done,

Stay silent

And do what can be done.

13. Understand the greatness

Of silent deeds,

And balance

Words and actions.

காரணம் இருக்கு

புரியாமல் நீ

கேட்பதும் எதற்கு

6. எதற்கெடுத்தாலும்

கேள்விகள் கேட்கிறாய்

அதற்கான பதிலை

எதிர் பார்க்கின்றாய்

7. ஒரு கேள்வி மட்டும்

நானுமே கேட்டால்

அதற்கும் காரணம்

என்னிடம் கேட்கிறாய்

8. புதிதாக ஒன்றும்

கேட்பதும் இல்லை

அதற்கான அவசியம்

இல்லாத போது

9. வீணான வாதங்கள்

விளங்காத விளக்கங்கள்

தருவதை முதலிலே

நீயும் நிறுத்தி

10. கேட்பதை விட்டு

தந்ததைப் புரிந்து

வாழ இனிமேல்

நீயும் பழகு

11. மனதை முதலில்

ஒருநிலைப் படுத்தி

மவுனமாய் இருந்திட

அனுதினம் பழகு

12. அதன்பின் கேட்டது

தன்போல் கிடைக்கும்

எனக்கும் சற்று

ஓய்வும் கிடைக்கும்

13. இப்படி நீயும்

சொன்னதின் பின்னே

மேற்கொண்டு நானும்

எதனைக் கேட்க

14. மவுனமாய் இருக்க

முயற்சியும் செய்கிறேன்

அதற்கு நீயும்

உதவிடக் கேட்கிறேன்
