BT Song 1496

Many suggested that leaving the ashram and going on a tour might help me cope with my mother’s passing. However, I knew that wouldn’t work. While caring for my mother, I had to refuse several invitations from my shishyas. Without any more excuses, I was compelled to visit them. So, I came to Dehradun for a conference and to meet other shishyas. Yet, I couldn’t forget my mother. In fact, my grief intensified as I reflected on how she adjusted to life in the ashram, giving up many comforts she enjoyed in the city. The word “amma” (Tamil for mother) brought more tears, as it reminded me of the deep bond between a mother and child. During my evening walk and exercise, unable to control my tears, I wrote and recorded this song on my mobile.

 BT Song 1496 Enduring Affection

Simple English

The burden isn’t entirely gone,

Nor has my heart forgotten the affection.                    1

Even if days pass,

The memories don’t fade for me.              2

The hands that took and raised me

Are no longer here to embrace me now.           3

The words of comfort and solace

I no longer have the chance to hear again.                 4

Your memory weighs on my mind,

Bringing sorrow that fills my heart. 5

When I shed tears and cry out,

Visions of you appear before my eyes.              6

I long for that life again,

Grateful for the life I once lived.                7

No one can ever replace you,

You’ve left that bond behind.           8

As long as I live,

That bond will remain with me.                  9

You gave me the honor

Of calling you “Amma” until the end.                  10

But why did you take away

The chance to call you again?                  11

Still, tell me, does calling you “Amma”

Fade with your physical presence?          12

As long as I can call you “Amma,”

That bond will stay with me.            13

Often calling “Amma”

Brings me comfort in that word.                14

The burden may slightly ease,

But the affection will last.                 15

 BT Song 1496 Enduring Affection

Classical English

The burden has not wholly departed,

Nor has my heart forgotten the affection.                    1

Even as days advance,

The memories do not fade for me.            2

The hands that tenderly nurtured me

Are no longer here to embrace me now.           3

The words of comfort and solace

I have no chance to hear again.                4

Your memory weighs heavily on my mind,

Bringing sorrow that fills my heart. 5

When tears flow and I lament,

Visions of you appear before my eyes.              6

I yearn for that life once more,

Grateful for the life I once lived.                7

None can ever replace you,

You have left that bond behind.                8

As long as I breathe,

That bond will remain with me.                  9

You bestowed upon me the honor

Of calling you “Amma” until the end.                  10

But why did you take away

The chance to call you once more?                   11

Yet, tell me, does calling you ” Amma ”

Vanish with your physical presence?                 12

As long as I can call you ” Amma,”

That bond will stay with me.            13

Oft calling ” Amma ”

Brings me solace in that word.                  14

The burden may slightly lessen,

But the affection shall endure.                   15

 BT Song 1497

Though Muktinath promises to give His peace, which the world cannot offer, it is not a one-way street where I remain passive and only receive. In every sadhana, God expects us to work alongside Him. As humans, we expect God to always consider our weaknesses and limitations. While He is willing to do so, He refuses to patronize our lives.

BT Song 1497 Fullness of peace

Simple English

Without saying anything

Without doing anything

When you remain peacefully

Within me             1

The peace that comes

The comfort it brings

That is indeed

The greatest reward               2

The liberation I sought

You brought me

All the unasked blessings

You gave me                 3

With that, the blessing

Of living with you

Every day

You graciously gave               4

Despite doing all this

The reward my heart seeks

Why did you refuse

To give it?            5

I tried doing

What I could

To the best of my ability

I kept silent          6

Yet peace

Along with comfort

I could not achieve

I struggled daily             7

You said you alone

Cannot give it

I too must work

Harder        8

That I told you

Beforehand

I did what

I could                   9

If only your heart

Softens a little

Peace like yours

Will come to me            10

That peace

Will fill me

And daily

My heart will sing your praise                    11

To give when asked

Is human nature

To give without asking

Is divine grace               12

Among these two

Whichever is in you

Accordingly

You also act                   13

BT Song 1497 Fullness of peace

Classical English

Without uttering a word

Without performing a deed

When thou dost remain in peace

Within me             1

The peace that cometh

The solace it bestoweth

That indeed is

The finest reward                    2

The liberation I sought

Thou didst bring

All the unasked boons

Thou gavest me            3

Along with that, the blessing

Of living with thee

Every day

Thou graciously bestowed               4

Despite all this

The reward my heart desires

Why didst thou

Deny it to me?               5

I endeavored to do

What lay within my power

To the best of my ability

I kept my silence           6

Yet peace

With comfort

I could not attain

I suffered daily               7

Thou saidst thou alone

Could not give it

I too must strive

Harder        8

That I told thee

 BT Song 1498

Relationships alone give human life meaning and purpose, but they also present significant challenges. Our human nature depends on how we handle them. Love and hate come as a package, and knowing where to draw the line is subtle. Only God can provide this guidance, not society or our values. Those who maintain a personal relationship with God and express it in every human experience can handle relationships better. As a sannyasi, though I am expected to sever all human relationships, I encourage others to remain anchored in their relationships with God and to enjoy human life.

 BT Song 1498 Your relationship

Simple English

Unwanted relationships

And unwanted separations

The life that has both

Is filled with great sorrow                 1

In this world without relationships

There is no life

A life without separation

Does not continue                   2

Unwanted relationships

Cannot be avoided

Unwanted separations

Cannot be escaped                3

Yet, this is

The truth of life

Accepting it

Is the only benefit                    4

Trying to cherish

Unwanted relationships

Accepting and living

With unwanted separations             5

Living the life

Of this world

To its completion

Is my only duty now                6

For that, I need

Your grace

Along with

Courage in my heart               7

The relationship with you

That gives both

Is what I

Always need                  8

In that, there is

No room for separation

And no strength

To endure it                   9

Keeping this

In mind

Stay with me

Always without parting           10

 BT Song 1499

The real tension and challenge for a sannyasi is to renounce everything in letter and spirit while not shirking God-given responsibilities. Despite claims of equanimity, a sannyasi is torn between their call and commitment. It’s an excuse to claim that personal sadhana requires minimal responsibility and greater renunciation. God expects every human being to remain true to their call, accepting every responsibility in life. When I tried to convince God that I needed more time for personal sadhana after my mother’s passing, He pointed out that my responsibilities as a human continue until the end of my life.

BT Song 1499  Renounced Which one?

Simple English

You refused to help

Even though I tried

To escape and run

For a little while             1

Thinking of seeking you

I decided to abandon the world

And run towards you

In my quest                    2

Without offering

Any help to me

As usual, you asked

Questions again            3

You asked what

I had abandoned so far

And you provided

An explanation for that           4

You asked how

I could abandon

The world and you

After creating them                 5

After doing

Your part as well

We can think about

Renouncing the world            6

Before completing

The given responsibilities

How can we talk

About renunciation                  7

If one wears saffron

And lives alone

Would you think

They are renounced               8

Every person born

In this world

Is born with responsibilities

From the very beginning                  9

While bearing them

Till they leave

What exception is there

For a renunciate            10

Stopping the life

In an imaginary world

Focusing on the responsibilities

Given before our eyes            11

Leaving all arguments

And debates behind

Only looking at

The way of living           12

Showing some pity

On you, I took

A part in your responsibility

As well                  13

If you forget that

And argue again

I would ask you

To bear it all alone                  14

After you said

Such a thing

I too kept

My mouth shut               15

Thinking that I could

Live fully with you

I said this

With that intention                   16

If you say

It is not needed

What else can I do

Beyond that                   17

Knowing that you

Want to escape from me

I understand

That you said this                    18

But there is no way

For you to escape

So I will do

As you said                    19

You inquired what

And provided an explanation

 BT Song 1500

Above all other relationships, the umbilical bond between a child and mother is the most valuable. No other relationship can compensate for the loss of a mother, regardless of the child’s age. As I continue to mourn my mother’s loss, I find solace in viewing God as a Mother, often using “She” for God. I believe She will comfort me as a mother would, until the end of my life.

BT Song 1500 Secret of Relationship

Simple English

When inseparable memories

And unhidden bonds

Live together in life,

It’s hard to stay without thinking,               1

It’s impossible

Not to think

And I can’t forget,

Despite trying,               2

You didn’t come

As a forgettable bond,

Even when gone,

The memory continues,                   3

Even if I cry,

The mind doesn’t ease,

When I think of you, Amma,             4

Everyone has to go

One day,

I understand this too,              5

But still, I can’t accept

Why you left me,           6

While the heart weeps

And reason consoles,

Love torments between the two,               7

Am I crying for you

Or for myself?

This, I cannot understand,               8

What is there

In this bond?

What secret

Lies behind it?               9

Who will give

Any answer?

Even if given,

How can I understand?                    10

Only if the creator

Of you and me

Comes and tells,

Will I understand,                    11

The secret of the bond

Between mother and child,

Only he knows,             12

When he himself

Becomes a mother

And comes seeking us,                    13

He surely understands

The sorrow of a child

Who has lost its mother,                   14

His bond and

Your memory

Will daily grant me

Consolation,                   15
