BT Song 1501
A certain tiredness has settled into both my body and mind. I am unsure if it is due to continuous travel after a long gap or the loss of my mother. However, the company of God and the way I can pour out my heart are the only solace I find amidst this weariness.
BT Song 1501 Longing is good
Simple English
There is some longing
In my heart
How to express it
Simply, I wonder 1
Even with your grace
Present with me
There is still
Restlessness in my heart 2
Even if things
Happen as planned
Somehow, fulfillment
Seems out of reach 3
As if something
Was lost
A void has come
For some reason 4
There is no reason
For this feeling
I can’t understand
What is happening 5
You didn’t leave
And I didn’t
Separate from you 6
Is it physical fatigue
Or mental exhaustion
Or the weariness
Of the journey, I don’t know 7
Let it go downhill
Let things happen
This too
Is part of life 8
Yet this
Tiredness and weariness
Will also do
Some good for me 9
To sit comfortably
With you
And chat
There will be time 10
When two friends
Come together
Arguments and chat
Will happen 11
There is a certain
Joy in it
They will laugh
And be happy 12
After that, this
Longing and confusion
Will surely
Disappear 13
So, even this
Restlessness
Will do
Some good for me 14
This longing
Will come often
And do
Some good for me 15

Remain unclear 5
Thou hast not departed
And I have not

Let it decline
Let events unfold
This too

Yet this

Afterwards, this

This longing
Shall visit often
And do
Some good for me 15

BT Song 1502
Another plea urging God to take me back with Him. Since my mother passed away, I don’t find any meaning or purpose in my life. I have no other responsibilities or reasons to stay here. Somehow, I am merely passing the time and preparing to go. But if God does it sooner, it would be better for Him. I could go and be of some help to Him. Or at least, He need not worry about taking care of me on this earth. In both ways, as He alone would benefit from this, I urge Him to call me at the earliest.
BT Song 1502 Take Me Along
Simple English
For whom should I live?
I do not know.
Why should I live?
I do not understand. 1
I cannot live
For myself.
I cannot live
For you. 2
These words
Are not out of frustration.
There is nothing in life
Worth living for. 3
When passing each day
Out of duty,
There is no more meaning
Left in life. 4
Even when I
Complain as usual,
It does not reach
Your ears. 5
Even knowing
That it is better to go
After understanding
The reason for coming. 6
Refusing to say
The reason for staying,
Is it fair
To speak of living? 7
You must give me
An answer,
Or take me
With you. 8
Without either,
If you keep silent,
At least tell me
The reason. 9
What has happened
To you now?
If you need
Any help, tell me. 10
Since you said
You would help if I come,
Show me a way
To take me along. 11

Refusing to disclose
The reason for staying,
Is it fair
To speak of living? 7
Thou must give me
An answer,
Or take me
With thee. 8
Without either,
If thou maintainest silence,
At least reveal to me
The reason. 9
What hath befallen thee
Now?
If thou needest
Any assistance, say so. 10
Since thou hast said
Thou wouldst aid if I come,
Show me a way
To take me along. 11

BT Song 1503
See BT Song 1502 for the background. I watched a beautiful Kathak performance by Luna Podder, where she performed to a song. In it, I was captivated by a line that says, “If wood is burnt, then it will become coal; if coal is burnt, then it will become ash. But this sinner burnt and neither became coal nor ash.” I wanted to incorporate this thought into my song as well. There, it was in the context of Viraha bhava, but in my case, it is about frustration with this life on earth.
BT Song 1503 Deaf to Reason
Simple English
I don’t like
To stay.
You don’t want
To take up. 1
Who among us
Will give in?
You don’t seem
To understand. 2
What is there
To achieve?
Tell me that
Clearly. 3
Is it youthful age
To live and see,
Or is it family
To carry the burden? 4
Like a dead tree
When standing,
Even to take shelter
There’s no shade. 5
If cut and felled,
It becomes firewood.
If firewood is burnt,
It becomes charcoal. 6
If charcoal is burnt,
It turns to ash.
Even ash
Turns into manure. 7
Does it help
To sell a dead tree?
Who benefits
From it? Think. 8
Even after saying all this,
If you refuse to take it,
The burden falls on the earth.
At least, listen to that. 9
To serve the mother,
You kept me.
I accepted
That task. 10
Once that duty
Is done,
I won’t accept
Any other reason. 11
How many times
Must I say this?
It seems your ears
Have gone dull. 12
I know
What it means to be deaf to reason.
If you act with me,
I will let you go. 13
To come to a good
Decision quickly
Is very, very good
For both of us. 14

BT Song 1503 Deaf to Reason
Classical English
I do not like
To remain.
Thou dost not wish
To undertake. 1
Who amongst us
Shall yield?
Thou seemest not
To comprehend. 2
What is there
To accomplish?
Speak that
Clearly. 3
Is it the age of youth
To live and observe,
Or is it family
To bear the burden? 4
Like a dead tree
When standing,
Even to seek refuge
There’s no shade. 5
If hewn down,
It becomes firewood.
If firewood is burnt,
It becomes charcoal. 6
If charcoal is burnt,
It turns to ash.
Even ash
Turns into manure. 7
Does it aid
To sell a dead tree?
Who gains
From it? Ponder. 8
Even after all this said,
If thou refusest to take it,
The burden falls upon the earth.
At least, heed that. 9
To serve the mother,
Thou didst keep me.
I accepted
That charge. 10
Once that duty
Is fulfilled,
I shall not accept
Any other cause. 11
How many times
Must I say this?
It seems thy ears
Have become dull. 12
I know
What it is to be deaf to reason.
If thou dost act with me,
I shall let thee go. 13
To reach a good
Decision swiftly
Is exceedingly good
For both of us. 14

BT Song 1504
At the end of the day, life is merely a routine. All that we claim as doing in a new or different way is nothing but putting old wine in a new bottle. All our inventions make us very busy or even tired. But life remains the same for everyone—whether in the past or present. The only new thing is that we live in a hurry with much haste, whereas people in the past, even my generation, lived and continue to live this life leisurely, despite all the pressures on us.
BT Song 1504 New understanding
Simple English
What changes
Have you brought
Into me, I wondered
And looked. 1
Did the change come?
I couldn’t understand.
You didn’t
Explain either. 2
None of the inborn traits
Went away.
No new change
Came either. 3
I thought that
Old things would go away
And everything
Would become new. 4
It didn’t happen
As said.
You didn’t
Change me either. 5
What new things
Would come,
I asked others. 6
They said,
Asking this itself is new.
That’s where
The change begins. 7
I asked you,
But no answer came.
What others said
I didn’t understand. 8
This understanding too
Came anew.
Living without understanding
Is said to be good. 9
Following this new
Understanding,
I’m living my old life
Anew. 10

BT Song 1505
God tries His best to mold us in His image by restoring our fallen nature. Despite His efforts, our fallen nature refuses to change easily, even with our devotion and understanding of the Vedas. Neither God is giving up, nor are we yielding. This tug of war will continue till the end of life. The question is not who will win, as both God and I will, but that we must continue to fight while living here.
BT Song 1505
Simple English
Even though you bring change
For me to change,
My heart refuses
To change completely. 1
The change you expect
Is entirely different
When it happens. 2
Will my heart
Accept it easily?
Even you think about it. 3
Even though you don’t
Ask me to change in one day,
Even though I can’t change
Like you. 4
My heart must accept
The thought of change,
Then the change
Will slowly begin. 5
An external change
Won’t happen to you,
An internal change
My heart won’t desire. 6
Life goes on
In a tug of war,
In the end, who will win
Is hard to say. 7
I tried,
But I couldn’t,
And you too
Won’t simply let go. 8
Until this struggle
Ends,
Neither you nor I
Will see change. 9
When the struggle ends,
Change will come,
When change comes,
The struggle will end. 10
Neither
Will happen,
This is the real
State of things here. 11

BT Song 1501 ஏக்கம் நல்லது
ஏதோ ஏக்கம்
இருக்குது மனதில்
எப்படிச் சொல்ல
அதனை எளிதில் 1
உனது அருளும்
இருக்கும் போதும்
ஏனோ உள்ளது
தவிப்பு மனதில் 2
நினைத்த படியே
காரியம் நடந்தும்
நிறைவு ஏனோ
வந்திடக் காணோம் 3
ஏதோ ஒன்றை
இழந்தது போலே
ஏனோ வந்தது
வெறுமை ஒன்று 4
காரணம் ஏதும்
இருக்கவும் இல்லை
நடக்கும் காரியம்
புரியவும் இல்லை 5
நீயும் விலகிச்
செல்லவும் இல்லை
நானும் உன்னைப்
பிரிந்திட வில்லை 6
உடலின் சோர்வா
மனதின் களைப்பா
பயணத்தின் அலுப்பா
தெரியவும் இல்லை 7
சரிவிடு போகட்டும்
நடப்பது நடக்கட்டும்
வாழ்வில் இதுவும்
அங்கம் ஆகும் 8
ஆயினும் இந்த
அலுப்பும் சலிப்பும்
ஒருவித நல்லது
எனக்கும் செய்யும் 9
ஆர அமர
உன்னுடன் இருந்து
வம்பு பேச
நேரம் கிடைக்கும் 10
நண்பர் இருவர்
சேர்ந்திடும் போது
வாதம் வம்பு
செய்வது உண்டு 11
அதிலே ஒருவித
ஆனந்தம் கொண்டு
அவரும் சிரித்து
மகிழ்வது உண்டு 12
அதன்பின் இந்த
ஏக்கம் கலக்கம்
தன்போல் நிச்சயம்
மறைவதும் உண்டு 13
ஆகவே இந்த
தவிப்பும் கூட
இதுபோல் நல்லது
எனக்கும் செய்ய 14
இந்த ஏக்கம்
அடிக்கடி வந்து
இதுபோல் நல்லது
எனக்கும் செய்யட்டும் 15
