Bhakti gives immense freedom to question, argue, and even threaten God if She is not listening to the prayers of Her devotee. Such poems are common in Hinduism, and I always enjoy writing them. Although I never intended to write, once inspiration comes and I start writing, often the words will come on their own and might even change the theme of the song. This is one such song.

The way a mother accepts her child as it is, no one else would. Even God might reject men for various reasons, though She alone created them (if you believe in the theory that God is the creator of the Atman) or She might not give another chance to attain moksha (even if the Atman is not created by God but has to work out its own liberation). But only a mother never sets such limitations for her child. Even an immoral son would remain her son, and she will go to any extent to take care of him. As I miss my mother, I thought about the role of a mother in our lives and marvel at the way God created motherhood to show what it means to be God in the truest sense.

1. Only for a mother, there is no burden,
No matter how her child is.
2. She was born to carry, she lives by carrying,
Therefore, she doesn’t consider her child a burden.
3. The child who loses her will know,

Ever standing at the mind’s brink.
6. For the child who contemplates departure,
She will journey with pain to embrace them.
7. Bearing in the womb, upon the chest,

What we know about ourselves is almost nil, whereas what others know about us is more. But their understanding is also based on mutual relationships and responses. Accepting oneself is completely dependent upon oneself. Unless God helps, one can neither understand nor accept themselves as they are. In my case, this is true. I still do not understand myself properly, let alone completely. And God is still shaping me to reveal my true nature. The question now is, when will this happen?

A devotee has to know, accept, and act according to the will of God. Still, what the will of God is remains a million-euro question (for a change, why not use another currency instead of always using the dollar?). But a devotee who is totally surrendered to God need not even worry about knowing the will of God. As She alone makes a devotee think and act according to Her will, a devotee can relax, knowing that it is not their responsibility to even know the will of God.
