BT Song 1516
This song depicts my Guru becoming everything for me, especially in old age, where the changing demands of the body and life require many new adjustments. Somehow, with the Guru by my side, guiding me, I am reassured that He will take care of what is entrusted to Him.
BT Song 1516 Become everything
Simple English
1
You held my hand without letting go,
Walked with me without faltering,
Without changing your pace,
You came along with me.
2
In everyday life,
You are with me,
This is enough,
What else do I need?
3
You came as a teacher,
Seeking me,
Through that, you showed me,
God within you.
4
If there is one,
Called God,
He should be like you,
That is enough.
5
If I need,
God too,
Even that, you,
Must decide.
6
A mother knows,
The needs of her child,
She will only,
Do good for it.
7
As your child,
Staying within you,
As a disciple of the teacher,
Bowing at your feet.
8
Through the greatness of devotion,
Praising only you,
Living everyday,
Merged within you.
9
My individuality,
Hidden in you,
Your greatness,
Filling within me.
10
From now on, not me,
But you within me,
Realizing this,
I must serve.
11
The body has weakened,
Old age has come,
Speech falters,
Talking has become difficult.
12
But the mind alone,
Grows in you,
Somehow again,
Turns into a child.
13
May this simplicity,
Continue forever,
Your grace too,
I need every day.

BT Song 1516 Become Everything
Classical English
1
Thou heldst my hand steadfastly,
Walked beside me unfaltering,
Without changing thy stride,
Thou accompanied me.
2
In daily life,
Thou art with me,
This sufficeth,
What more could I desire?
3
Thou camest as a guru,
Seeking me,
Thereby revealing,
The divine within thee.
4
If there be one,
Called God,
He should be like thee,
That shall suffice.
5
If I too require,
A deity,
Even that, thou must,
Determine.
6
A mother knoweth,
The needs of her child,
She doeth only,
What is good for it.
7
As thy child,
Dwelling within thee,
As a disciple of the guru,
Bowing at thy feet.
8
Through the exaltation of devotion,
Praising only thee,
Living each day,
United within thee.
9
My individuality,
Hidden in thee,
Thy greatness,
Filling within me.
10
Henceforth, not I,
But thou within me,
Realizing this,
I must serve.
11
The body hath weakened,
Old age hath come,
Speech falters,
Talking hath become labored.
12
But the mind alone,
Grows in thee,
For some reason again,
It turneth into a child.
13
May this simplicity,
Continue evermore,
Thy grace too,
I need daily.

BT Song 1517
My friend Kannan from Erode sent a response to my secular song about the burden of the peacock. Recently, he has started trying his hand at writing poems, and he is quite good at conveying messages through this medium. In the recent past, friends and others often sent messages in poetic form, even when seeking help from another person. However, I suggested he try to keep two or four words in each line and connect the beginning and end of the words in each line, known as ‘edugai’ and ‘monai’ in Tamil. He said he couldn’t do it and that only someone with experience in writing poems could manage it. I then sent him a small example from the first line of his own poem. Inspired by this, I quickly wrote this song, borrowing his theme. So, the theme of this song belongs to Kannan, and only the words are mine. In the past, there were two poets known as ‘Iratti Pulavar.’ One was blind, and the other was lame. The lame poet would sit on the blind poet’s shoulder and guide him. One would write the first two lines of a song, and the other would complete it by writing the last two stanzas. Many poems were written by them.
BT Song 1517: Whose burden?
Simple English
1
In creation, man
Lived with the other,
But as sin entered,
He separated from the supreme.
2
After that, even a straw
Became a burden,
Sleep was lost,
He weakened like a straw.
3
Even the dear companion,
Was nearby,
But that love too
Turned into emptiness.
4
Seeing his state,
The supreme had pity,
Thinking of his creation,
He came back.
5
He came again
To redeem man,
Showed the way of redemption
On the tree.
6
After that, He called
With love,
Told us to place
Our burdens on Him.
7
But thinking
Everything is his own,
Living so,
Man again,
8
‘My sin, my burden,
What do you care?’
He asked God,
And questioned Him.
9
Still, he carries
His burden of sin,
God watches,
Wondering what to do.
10
Should we blame
The Creator?
Or scorn the man
Who bears the burden?
11
For this,
I have no answer,
Let each one carry
Their own burden.
12
In the spinning world
Of God’s wheel,
The carrying mind
Falls into weariness.
13
In the union of love
And knowledge,
Giving his burden
To Him.
14
Thiruppunthuruthi, 15-8-23, Afternoon, 1.15.
BT Song 1517
Classical English
1
In creation, man,
With another dwelt,
But as sin did enter,
From the supreme he parted.
2
Thereafter, even a straw,
Became a burden,
Sleep was lost,
He weakened like unto straw.
3
Even the cherished companion,
Though nearby remained,
That love too
Into emptiness turned.
4
Seeing his plight,
The supreme had mercy,
Remembering his creation,
He returned.
5
He came again
To redeem man,
Showed the path of redemption
On the tree.
6
Thereafter, He called
With love,
Bid us place
Our burdens upon Him.
7
Yet, thinking
All is his own,
Thus living,
Man once again,
8
‘My sin, my burden,
What is it to thee?’
He questioned God,
And queried Him.
9
Still, he bears
His burden of sin,
God looks on,
Wondering what to do.
10
Shall we blame
The Creator?
Or scorn the man
Who bears the burden?
11
For this,
I have no answer,
Let each one bear
Their own burden.
12
In the spinning world
Of God’s wheel,
The bearing mind
Falls into weariness.
13
In the union of love
And knowledge,
Giving his burden
Unto Him.
14
Thiruppunthuruthi, 15-8-23, Afternoon, 1.15.
By Kannan, Erode
Simple English
1
The one who lived with the Supreme Being in creation,
Sin also entered,
And the Supreme Being departed.
2
Even a straw became heavy,
Sleep turned into sorrow,
Wisdom vanished,
Unable to recognize devotion.
3
Unable to find the way to the Supreme Being,
Lived in such a state.
Seeing this,
The Supreme Being was troubled and came to the common man.
4
He lifted and carried the burden and sin,
On the cross.
Even after gaining freedom,
I won’t give up my burden.
5
Always saying, “Give it to me,”
Again taking it back from the Supreme Being.
Seeing this state,
The Supreme Being was alarmed and grieved.
6
For the common man who loses sight even after finding the way,
Wondering how to show the way,
It burdened the Supreme Being.
Seeing this ignorance,
I too pondered.
7
Who bears the greatest burden?
Even the Supreme Being, who came to show the way to live,
Was made to tremble by the common man.
What can I say?
8
(An attempt like a Turky )
Kannan from Erode.
Classical English Translation
1
He who dwelt with the Supreme Being in creation,
Did let sin enter,
And the Supreme Being withdrew.
2
A mere straw turned into a burden,
Sleep transformed into sorrow,
Wisdom did wane,
Unaware of devotion.
3
Finding no path to the Supreme Being,
He lived in such a plight.
Witnessing this,
The Supreme Being, sorrowful, came to the common man.
4
He lifted and bore the burden and sin,
Upon the cross.
Even after gaining liberty,
He said, “I shall not relinquish my burden.”
5
Always saying, “Give it unto me,”
Yet again taking it back from the Supreme Being.
Seeing this state,
The Supreme Being did shudder and lament.
6
For the common man who stumbles even after finding the way,
Pondering how to guide him,
It did burden the Supreme Being.
Witnessing this ignorance,
I too did muse.
7
Who bears the greater burden?
Even the Supreme Being, who came to show the way to live,
Was made to tremble by the common man.
What can I utter?

BT Song 1518
In the morning, my mother’s face suddenly began to appear in my mind often. Of course, I remember her at least once a day. But I don’t know the reason for this sudden appearance of my mother in my mind. After lunch, when I tried to lie down to rest, I began to recall our life together in the ashram this time last year. Unable to control my tears, I consoled myself by saying that death is inevitable, but the relationship, particularly that of a mother, never dies. As inspiration came, I wrote this song and lay down, unable to sleep further, thinking only about her.
BT Song 1518 Unique bond
Simple English
1
Birth and death
Are parts of nature
All who are born
Will surely die
2
But relationships
Are not like this
Along with the body
Relationships never disappear
3
There is no other relationship
Like that of a mother
Available for us
On this earth
4
No other relationship
Remains that close
Like that of a mother
To a child
5
No one shares
The body, soul, and spirit
Like that of a
Mother in life
6
If there is anything
Still left with her
She won’t hesitate
To share that also
7
None has seen
In the entire creation
A more noble one
Than a mother
8
The existence
Of living beings
Is nothing but her
Generous gift
9
No end will come
To the relationship
That begins with her
And still continues in her
10
Let the perishable
Body go
But the living relationship
Will continue in her
11
Carrying that relationship
In one’s heart and
Continuing to live is
The glory of this life

Thirupoonthuruthi. 17-8-23, Afternoon 1.15.

BT Song 1519
As I returned to the ashram after three months (I left on June 24th and returned today), I sat quietly in the evening, immersing myself in the calm atmosphere around me, which I had missed so much during these months. All the readings I have done, the talks I have had, and the writings I have completed have not changed me much. The only way to experience God is to go beyond all human endeavors and have Her darshan within our atman—transcending everything. This firm conviction never changes, irrespective of various views about God.
BT Song 1519: Which is correct way?
Simple English
1
Without knowing, without understanding,
Even if you don’t comprehend,
To know and understand,
You came into the world.
2
After coming,
Without realizing your nature,
Many people,
Devised various paths.
3
Among those paths,
Many walked,
Only a few,
Reflected on them.
4
From the experiences
They gained on the paths,
They shared,
Only a few insights.
5
Those who came after,
In those paths,
Made those thoughts,
Their own.
6
Whose experience
Is right,
A new argument,
Turned into a question.
7
In response,
They too,
Authored various books,
And gave them to us.
8
From these arose,
Many theories,
Which still,
Govern our thoughts.
9
How to know,
Understand,
And realize you,
Left them confused.
10
Those who realized
That through these,
One cannot,
Fully understand you,
11
Went beyond,
The stages of knowing,
Understanding, and realizing,
In experience,
12
Clearly within,
Seeing you,
Knowing, understanding,
And living.
13
As one among them,
To transform myself,
I sought your,
Holy feet today.
14
Accepting servitude,
Understanding your,
Grace,
I live well.

BT Song 1520
Another song, both pleading with and teasing God to change me, but not at my own expense.
BT Song 1520: Unable to Change
Simple English
1
No one can do anything,
Even you cannot change it.
2
With a mind that changes every moment,
I can no longer fight.
3
How many times have I said this,
In writing and in song.
4
Even when you can help,
You refuse; how can I avoid struggle?
5
Maybe this is a game to you,
A pastime, a display of fun.
6
To make those with you laugh,
I act, only to be deceived.
7
If I get paid, I can act,
But how can I act spending my own money?
8
What I had is gone,
Now, what can I do for a living?
9
You must show me some way,
What more can I say?
10
In a changing mind,
You remain unchanged,
And must dwell within forever.

BT Song 1520: Unable to Change
Translation: Classical English
1
None can accomplish aught,
Not even thou canst alter it.
2
With a mind ever-changing,
I can no longer contend.
3
How oft have I proclaimed this,
In writing and in song.
4
Even when thou canst aid,
Thou refusest; how then may I eschew strife?
5
Perchance this is a sport to thee,
A pastime, a show of mirth.
6
To make those with thee laugh,
I perform, only to be beguiled.
7
If recompensed, I may act,
But how can I perform at mine own expense?
8
What I possessed is spent,
Now, what may I do to sustain myself?
9
Thou must reveal some way,
What more can I utter?
10
In a mind ever-changing,
Thou remainest immutable,
And must dwell within eternally.

தெளிவாக உள்ளே
தெரிகின்ற உன்னை
புரிந்து அறிந்து
உணர்ந்து வாழ்ந்தார்
13
அவரில் ஒருவனாய்
என்னையும் மாற்ற
ஐயனே அண்டினேன்
திருவடி இன்று
14
அடிமையை ஏற்று
அருளிய உனது
அருளை உணர்ந்து
வாழ்கின்றேன் நன்று

BT Song 1520: மாற்ற இயலாது 1
1
ஒருவரும் ஒன்றும்
செய்யதிட முடியாது
உன்னாலும் கூட
மாற்ற இயலாது
2
ஒவ்வொரு நொடியும்
மாறிடும் மனதுடன்
என்னாலே போராட
இனியும் முடியாது
3
எத்தனை முறையோ
இதனையும் சொன்னேன்
எழுத்திலும் பாட்டிலும்
கூறியும் வைத்தேன்
4
முடிந்த நீயும்
உதவிட மறுக்க
எப்படி நானும்
போராட்டம் தவிர்க்க
5
ஒருவேளை உனக்கிது
விளையாட்டு ஆகலாம்
பொழுது போகாமல்
வேடிக்கை காட்டலாம்
6
உன்னுடன் சேர்ந்து
பார்ப்பவர் நகைக்க
நடிக்கின்ற நான்மட்டும்
ஏமாந்து போகலாம்
7
கூலி கிடைத்தால்
நடித்து காட்டலாம்
நானே செலவிட்டு
எப்படி நடிக்கலாம்
8
இருந்த முதலும்
காலியாய்ப் போக
இனிமேல் பிழைப்புக்கு
நானென்ன செய்ய
9
ஏதேனும் வழியை
நீதான் காட்டனும்
இதற்கு மேலாக
நானேன் சொல்லணும்
10
மாறிடும் மனதிலே
மாறாத நீதான்
நீங்காது என்றும்
குடிகொள்ள வேண்டும்
