BT Songs 1521 to 1525

 BT Song 1521

The oneness with God is the nature of our atman, as it was created in His image. Although scriptures provide various ways to restore this oneness, once we have experienced it, the only way to sustain it is by not allowing anything to separate us from it again. Achieving this, with the help and cooperation of God—who, like us, has an equal stake in this oneness—eliminates any place for separation. To sustain this oneness, we must transcend all scriptures that divide us, not only among ourselves but also with God.

BT Song 1521 No place for separation

Simple English:

 Verse 1

When scriptures came,

Religions emerged.

The divisions they caused,

How many, how many.

 Verse 2

Without any division,

Naturally with us,

Blended without separation,

You are with us.

 Verse 3

Because of division,

Even to find you,

Living apart,

Always seeking you.

 Verse 4

When will this end?

My heart yearns,

Always longing,

When will it end?

 Verse 5

Then I realized,

Even that longing,

Oh Lord, truly,

belongs to you.

 Verse 6

Seeking many ways,

Running in some ways,

To know you,

There is no single way.

 Verse 7

Why to run,

How to search,

Until understanding,

That truth.

 Verse 8

Separated from you,

I suffer,

Separated from me,

You yearn too.

 Verse 9

Both of us searched,

Each other,

Finally found,

Each in each.

 Verse 10

To know this,

Why religions,

To tell this,

Why scriptures?

 Verse 11

If I avoid,

Acts that divide,

What need is there,

For division further?

Gurukulam, 11-10-23, 11.30 pm.

BT Song 1521 No place for separation

Classical English:

 Verse 1

When scriptures arrived,

Religions did appear.

The separations they caused,

How many, how many.

 Verse 2

Without separation,

Naturally with us,

Intertwined seamlessly,

You reside with us.

 Verse 3

Through division’s cause,

Even to seek you,

Living apart,

Always searching for you.

 Verse 4

When shall this end?

My heart yearns,

Incessantly longing,

When shall it end?

 Verse 5

Then I comprehended,

Even that longing,

Oh Lord, truly,

belongs to you.

 Verse 6

Seeking myriad paths,

Running along some,

To know you,

There is no single way.

 Verse 7

Why run,

How to seek,

Until understanding,

That truth.

 Verse 8

Separated from you,

I wither,

Separated from me,

You yearn as well.

 Verse 9

Both of us searched,

Each other,

In the end, we found,

Each in each.

 Verse 10

To comprehend this,

Why religions,

To expound this,

Why scriptures?

 Verse 11

If I shun,

Acts that divide,

What need is there,

For division henceforth?

Gurukulam, 11-10-23, 11.30 pm.

 BT Song 1522

The line that divides fatalism and the will of God is very subtle. Though every religious tradition uses various terms and ways to explain it, a bhakta, when facing certain events in her life, must resign to the will of God rather than accepting fatalism. Bhakti bestows the blessing of seeking such an attitude from God.

BT Song 1522 Let it happen

Simple English:

 Verse 1

Whether good or bad,

Whatever happens,

I have nothing,

To do with it.

 Verse 2

If good happens,

It’s always beneficial,

If bad happens,

It’s always harmful.

 Verse 3

Inside me,

Thoughts remain,

To change this,

There is no way.

 Verse 4

Good or bad,

Nothing happens,

Separately,

In isolation.

 Verse 5

You who lead,

See no difference,

In leading,

This way.

 Verse 6

How to take,

What happens,

The decision is,

Up to me.

 Verse 7

Beyond that,

To change it,

The thought is,

No longer with you.

 Verse 8

In this state,

You placed me,

Why this drama,

You also show?

 Verse 9

Knowing my nature,

To change it,

Why do you still,

Delay?

 Verse 10

Even this,

Is a kind of good,

Should I take it,

Like that?

 Verse 11

Or again,

As usual,

In this too,

See only bad?

 Verse 12

Whatever happens,

Let it happen,

From now on,

Nothing to say.

 Verse 13

Whatever happens,

Thinking it’s good,

Is the best thought,

There is no change.

 Verse 14

If that thought,

Is given,

That good,

You must do.

BT Song 1522 Let it happen

Classical English:

 Verse 1

Whether good or ill,

Whatever transpires,

I have naught,

To do with it.

 Verse 2

If good occurs,

It’s always a boon,

If ill arises,

It’s always bane.

 Verse 3

Within me,

Thoughts persist,

To alter this,

There is no path.

 Verse 4

Good or ill,

Nothing transpires,

Individually,

In isolation.

 Verse 5

Thou who guidest,

Seest no disparity,

In guiding thus,

In this manner.

 Verse 6

How to accept,

What transpires,

The decision lies,

With me.

 Verse 7

Beyond that,

To alter it,

The thought is,

No longer thine.

 Verse 8

In this condition,

Thou placed me,

Why this spectacle,

Dost thou too reveal?

 Verse 9

Knowing my nature,

To alter it,

Why dost thou still,

Procrastinate?

 Verse 10

Even this,

Is a sort of good,

Shall I accept it,

Thus?

 Verse 11

Or again,

As always,

In this too,

See only ill?

 Verse 12

Whatever occurs,

Let it transpire,

Henceforth,

Naught to declare.

 Verse 13

Whatever transpires,

Thinking it good,

Is the finest thought,

No alteration exists.

 Verse 14

If that thought,

Be bestowed,

That good,

Thou must enact.

 BT Song 1523

I went to Varanasi on November 1st and was busy with local programs until the 5th. However, I became sick due to food poisoning, suffering from vomiting and diarrhea for two more days. As I slightly improved, not wanting to miss our planned opportunity, I went to Buddha Gaya (on the 8th), Rajgir, and Nalanda. I returned exhausted with joint pains. On the night of the 8th, I couldn’t even sleep for two hours due to severe pain in my right leg, just above the toe. I even considered staying in the car, allowing only Subhashan (who came to visit Varanasi and other places) to see Nalanda and Rajgir. However, as a student of history, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity. With Subhashan’s help, I walked slowly, despite much pain, and visited important historical places.

As the Chikungunya virus was spreading widely in Varanasi, many people became sick. I also returned to Rewa with severe joint pains (three days of sickness, three days of continuous travel at this age, with a pacemaker—too much). But I was lovingly taken care of by Shashi’s family and managed to get some good rest on the night of the 10th, although the pain continued.

So this morning, ‘sick or not sick,’ as I cannot spend a day without reading books, I picked up the book “The Essential Rumi” by Coleman Barks (New York: HarperCollins, 2004 [1995]). Before reading, I listened to one of Rumi’s ghazals on YouTube, and one line impressed me: “He bought the clay pot that he created; broke it and went away.” Impressed by this thought, I wrote this poem.

BT Song 1523 Silent explanation

Simple English:

 Verse 1

Creating me and

Calling me your own,

Also buying it

By paying a price.

 Verse 2

What is the reason

For breaking it,

Not even using it

For a single second.

 Verse 3

As You have the right

To create me,

Why did you pay

A cost for that?

 Verse 4

Added more to that,

What is the reason

For crushing it

Like this?

 Verse 5

I know for sure that

No answer would come,

I also know that

I am unnecessarily arguing.

 Verse 6

But the explanation

That your SILENCE gives,

My soul understood

That is enough for me now.

Rewa 11-11-2023, 1. 00 pm.

 BT Song 1524

When I returned to the ashram after a short trip to the North due to health issues, memories of my mother began to bring tears. I had initially gone to the North to spend the entire winter in Rewa, but due to health issues, I had to rush back to the ashram. As my regular routine life began after recovery, I started searching for my mother within me. Often, I cannot accept that she is gone forever. Sometimes, I think she has gone to stay with my siblings and will come back. But I long to see her face again and hear her voice. I know this is not possible. I am unsure where and in what state she is living, who is taking care of her, or what her needs are. This longing to know about her and hear her voice often disturbs me. Then, I vent my anger, feeling that she behaves like God, who plays hide and seek, and wrote this song pouring out my heart thinking about my mother.

BT Song 1524 Let me hear your voice

Simple English:

 Verse 1

Wherever you are,

Give a voice,

If it’s not possible,

At least tell that.

 Verse 2

If there is no contact,

What will my state be,

At least see that.

 Verse 3

After giving birth,

The debt doesn’t end,

Thinking that,

You raised me.

 Verse 4

Till the end,

Carrying in your heart,

You also lived,

With me for my sake.

 Verse 5

Even after life and body,

Are gone,

You forgot,

The continuing bond.

 Verse 6

They said the departed,

Will become gods,

Did our ancestors,

Tell a lie?

 Verse 7

After you joined them,

You forgot me,

Is this the truth?

 Verse 8

Don’t change into,

Only a god,

Don’t stay far away,

Like him.

 Verse 9

Keep some kind of,

Contact,

Tell me you are,

There.

 Verse 10

Or if you’ve turned,

Into a god,

Join him and,

Hide.

 Verse 11

I’ve never seen,

God in person,

I don’t need to,

See either.

 Verse 12

But why did you,

Hide like him,

I can’t,

Accept that.

 Verse 13

So again,

Give a voice,

Call me,

Dear son.

Gurukulam, 20-11-23, 11.00 pm.

BT Song 1524 Let me hear your voice

Classical English:

 Verse 1

Wherever you are,

Grant a voice,

If it be impossible,

At least say that.

 Verse 2

If no connection exists,

What will my condition be,

At least observe that.

 Verse 3

After giving birth,

The debt remains,

Thinking thus,

You raised me.

 Verse 4

Until the end,

Bearing in your heart,

You also lived,

For my sake with me.

 Verse 5

Even after life and body,

Have departed,

You forgot,

The unbroken bond.

 Verse 6

They said the departed,

Would turn divine,

Did our ancestors,

Utter a falsehood?

 Verse 7

After you joined them,

You forgot me,

Is this the truth?

 Verse 8

Do not become,

Only a deity,

Do not remain distant,

Like him.

 Verse 9

Maintain some form,

Of connection,

Tell me you are,

There.

 Verse 10

Or if you have turned,

Into a god,

Join with him and,

Conceal yourself.

 Verse 11

I have never seen,

A deity directly,

Nor do I need,

To see one.

 Verse 12

But why did you,

Hide like him,

I cannot,

Accept that.

 Verse 13

So again,

Grant a voice,

Call me,

Beloved son.

Gurukulam, 20-11-23, 11.00 pm.

BT Song 1525

For me, the only effective way to communicate and experience God is in silence and through silence, transcending all human endeavors. Once we realize His presence, when we come out, we cannot and should not even try to express it. This is the only, best, and correct way to understand God: knowing Him and being known by Him.

BT Song 1525 You made me to understand

Simple English:

 Verse 1

I searched in my mind,

I searched in scriptures,

But without realizing,

You in silence.

 Verse 2

I searched in thoughts,

I searched in writings,

Beyond all these,

Where you reside.

 Verse 3

I wrote a thousand songs,

And saw,

Read many books,

And saw too.

 Verse 4

However much explanation,

Whoever gave,

I heard and kept it,

In my mind.

 Verse 5

The temples I sought,

Are few to mention,

The rituals performed,

What to say of them?

 Verse 6

Joining with groups,

Singing hymns,

Prayer and meditation,

I did plenty.

 Verse 7

Yet within,

The emptiness,

By these,

Did not go.

 Verse 8

Finally the body,

Started to weaken,

The soul yearned,

And sought you.

 Verse 9

All efforts,

Were set aside,

In silence when I,

Searched for you.

 Verse 10

With a soft voice,

You called me,

Through the silence,

Made me understand.

BT Song 1525 You made me to understand

Classical English:

 Verse 1

I sought within my mind,

I searched in the scriptures,

Yet without realizing,

You in the silence.

 Verse 2

I sought in thoughts,

I searched in writings,

Beyond all these,

Where you dwell.

 Verse 3

I wrote a thousand songs,

And beheld,

Read many books,

And beheld too.

 Verse 4

However much explanation,

Whoever provided,

I hearkened and placed it,

In my heart.

 Verse 5

The temples I sought,

Are few to mention,

The rituals performed,

What to speak of them?

 Verse 6

Joining with groups,

Singing hymns,

Prayers and meditations,

I did in plenty.

 Verse 7

Yet within,

The emptiness,

By these,

Did not depart.

 Verse 8

Finally the body,

Began to weaken,

The soul yearned,

And sought thee.

 Verse 9

All efforts,

Were set aside,

In silence when I,

Sought thee.

 Verse 10

With a gentle voice,

Thou called me,

Through the silence,

Made me understand.
