BT Song 1531
As I became very sick, I returned to the ashram, canceling the rest of my North trip. I have done two blood tests and consulted five doctors [one homeopathic, one Ayurvedic, one Siddha, and two allopathic]. They all said that I am perfectly fine, with no health issues.
Though I am slowly recovering from the joint pains, for the past ten days, I have been experiencing severe back pain. I have had back pain several times in the past, but it has never crippled me like this. I find it difficult to get up from the bed or chair, regardless of the surface I sit on [hard or soft]. Particularly in the midnight and early morning, I find it challenging even to get out of bed. With much pain and difficulty, even if I manage to get up, I cannot move immediately. It takes several minutes for me to adjust my body to take the first step. Even after that, I can only walk very slowly, step by step. All my regular exercises have stopped, and I go for only a slow walk.
So this evening, after a slow walk, when I returned to my room, I took the Cross stitch that my mother left unfinished. Then I said to the Lord that there is no reason for me to continue to live on this earth. ‘Give good health or call me back to you,’ is my demand from Her. Of course, I have only one task now: to complete the Cross stitch that my mother left incomplete and give it to my sister [as per my mother’s wish] and pack and get ready to leave.
But we all know well that for anything we ask from God, She has only one answer: ‘Your ways are not my ways.’ Of course, She has Her way, but She often forgets that I am more adamant than Her and know how to trouble Her. The result is this song.
BT Song 1531 Your Choice
Simple English
1.
Don’t stop
Giving more,
Thinking that
You’ve given enough.
2.
Until I say
‘It is enough’,
Don’t stop
Giving anything I ask for.
3.
In this world
Full of illusion,
Since you created me
As a human being,
4.
There will never be
An end to needs
As I have to
Live continuously.
5.
If you want to stop
Giving more,
There is only one choice
Left for you.
6.
That will be
The final need.
Think about it
Clearly.
7.
When you refused
To give it to me,
Though I asked you
Many times in the past,
8.
You have no right
To stop
All other needs
That I require.
9.
If you give
That need now,
All other needs
Will come to an end.
10.
Then I can come
And live
Very peacefully
Permanently with you.
11.
Fearing that,
If you keep me here,
Then you have to bestow
Whatever I demand.
12.
If I remain here
Or come there,
Both will become
A trouble to you.
13.
Then take the
Final decision:
Which one would be
Easier for you?
14.
If I continue to remain here,
Then I will trouble you
By writing more poems
Like this.
15.
As there is no
Need for that,
I will bestow
Peace of mind to you.
16.
Select one
Among the two:
Permanent peace of mind
Or continuing trouble.
17.
Give me that need
Which will bestow
Peace of mind
For both of us.
Gurukulam, 7-12-23, 6.30 pm.
BT Song 1531 Your Choice
Classical English
1.
Cease not to give,
Deeming it sufficient
What thou hast bestowed
Thus far.
2.
Until I utter
‘It is enough’,
Deny me not
Aught that I ask.
3.
In this realm
Veiled in illusion,
Since thou hast fashioned me
As a mortal being,
4.
Endless are
The needs that arise,
For life must
Endure without cease.
5.
Should thou desire
To halt thy giving,
One sole option
Remaineth for thee.
6.
That final need,
Contemplate it well,
It is the ultimate
Of all desires.
7.
Though I have petitioned
Many a time,
Thou hast refused
To grant me that.
8.
Thou hast no right
To withhold
All other needs
I seek.
9.
Bestow now
That final need,
And all other wants
Shall cease.
10.
Thus may I
Dwell with thee,
In peace eternal,
Forevermore.
11.
Shouldst thou keep me here,
In fear,
Thou must fulfill
My every demand.
12.
Whether I stay
Or come to thee,
Both shall trouble
Thee greatly.
13.
Make then thy
Final decision,
Which shall be
The easier path?
14.
Should I remain,
I shall trouble thee
With more verses
Like these.
15.
For there is no
Need for such,
I shall grant thee
Peace of mind.
16.
Choose then,
One of the two:
Endless tranquility
Or ceaseless strife.
17.
Bestow that need
Which shall grant
Peace of mind
To both of us.

BT Song 1532 – Became an Orphan
Last year this time, I was with my mother. But in the last ten days of her life, we both struggled a lot [16th to 26th]. Though I did my best, I still feel remorse several times, saying to my mother, ‘forgive me for the troubles I gave you in the last ten days by taking you to various places [Care home in Bangalore for five days, 16th to 19th, Hospital in Thally from the 19th to 22nd, and back to ashram on the 22nd] by disturbing you too much’.
Though I enjoy my quiet time and living alone now here in the ashram, my life together with my mother here often brings back so many memories, and I cry, unable to accept her loss. This evening, when I had my dinner, I said, ‘it is better to be born an orphan, though cruel for every child, than living with one’s mother for a long time and finally losing her’. Unable to control my tears, I wrote this song pouring down my heart. At the same time, I will agree that it is better to lose one’s mother after enjoying her love, care, and affection than to be born an orphan. Once a mother is gone, one becomes an orphan—though other relatives might be in their life.
BT Song 1532 Became an Orphan
Simple English
1.
Without a mother,
All the goodness in life is gone.
Though this is
True on this earth.
2.
Other than one who
Actually lost their mother,
Who else can
Understand this tragedy?
3.
Born to a mother
And after living with her,
Losing her forever
Is indeed cruel.
4.
It is better to lose
A mother immediately after birth.
This might be good
For a few.
5.
But no one should
Undergo such a tragedy in life.
Similarly, no one should have
This kind of tragedy either.
6.
But what else can one do,
As God alone decides
Who would go first
And then who?
7.
How can we make him
Understand that
It is better to go
Together with one’s mother?
8.
Though all the avatars
Took place through a mother,
In reality, He never knew
A mother’s affection.
9.
What is the use
Of asking him who doesn’t know that,
And how is it possible for him
To help us?
10.
We have to live thinking,
‘Let life go as it goes.
When our time comes,
Let us also go.’
11.
Until then we have
To shed tears
Often thinking
About the mother we lost.
Gurukulam, 10-12-2023, 7.50 p.m.
BT Song 1532 Became an Orphan
Classical English
1.
Bereft of mother,
All goodness in life doth wane.
Though this truth
Prevails on earth.
2.
None save one who
Hath truly lost their mother
Can fathom
This profound grief.
3.
To be born of a mother,
And having dwelt with her,
To lose her forever
Is a cruelty profound.
4.
Better it is to lose
A mother at birth,
This fate may
Benefit a few.
5.
Yet none should endure
Such sorrow in life.
Nor should any face
Such a fate.
6.
But what course remains,
When God alone decrees
Who shall depart first
And who shall follow?
7.
How can He be made
To grasp that
To go together
With one’s mother is best?
8.
Though all incarnations
Were borne of mothers,
In truth, He never
Knew a mother’s love.
9.
What gain in asking Him,
Who knows not this bond?
How might He then
Offer aid?
10.
We must live thinking,
‘Let life flow as it may.
When our time comes,
Let us too depart.’
11.
Until then we must
Shed our tears,
Oft remembering
The mother we lost.

BT Songs 1533 and 1534
These two songs have similar backgrounds. Since the 7th, I have been down with vomiting and stomach pain. I survived on Ragi porridge [finger millet]. For a change, on the 9th and 10th, I took a little curd rice. As I completely stopped eating rice and only had millet as my food, the two days of eating rice plus no fruit at night created severe constipation. This morning, after the meal, I pushed too much and strained, finally getting relief. But it caused a severe injury inside my anus. Then, I was unable to sit, lie down, stand, or walk. Every half hour, I would change positions—sit, stand, walk, or lie down. Unable to tolerate the pain and irritation inside my anus, I became very upset with God and wrote this song. As the pain continued even after that, I wrote the next song in the evening.
Moral of the song is: Don’t lament when you become sick. It will give much inspiration to think or write or at least to keep quiet, not fighting for any rights.
I used one conventional remedy. As I couldn’t get the gel the doctor prescribed immediately, I applied castor oil using a cotton bud inside my anus. It gave me some relief, and I started to feel much better.
Keep a small bottle of castor oil at home. It is useful for many ailments. Check the internet for the various uses of castor oil.
BT Song 1533 Did He Become Old?
Simple English
1.
There is no one to help,
And death is not coming.
In this condition,
As life goes on for many.
2.
Why should we live,
And what is the purpose in it?
Only this question alone
Will come to mind.
3.
“When there is
No one to help,
Who will listen or respond?
Tell that first to me.
4.
When no one is
Listening to you,
Why do you even say this?
At least tell that to me first.”
5.
“Better tell me
Who is the one asking this question.
Then I will give
My answer to you.”
6.
Then there came
No more voice.
I don’t know who is the one
Speaking and listening mutually.
7.
This is the condition
Of many people now.
Even they don’t have
Any right to say this.
8.
The time of seeking
One’s right has also gone now.
And living this life
Alone indeed became a burden.
9.
Where is any right
For the old people
Who are living alone,
Talking and listening to themselves?
10.
But what else is there
Any option left to this,
Other than living
Life like this?
11.
Even God,
Who alone has the right to end this,
Somehow also
Lost His own right.
12.
Did He also
Become old like us?
And does He also
Live alone like us?
13.
But we can go and
Give company to Him if He calls.
But even that is not
Possible for Him now.
14.
What to do
If old age has come?
Everyone’s condition
Will become like this.
Gurukulam, 12-12-23, 2.30 pm.
BT Song 1533 Did He Become Old?
Classical English
1.
None to render aid,
And death doth not arrive.
In such a plight,
Thus many live their lives.
2.
Why continue to live,
What purpose lies therein?
Only this question alone
Shall arise within the mind.
3.
“When none to aid is near,
Who shall hearken or reply?
Tell me first, I pray,
Who will listen or respond?”
4.
“When no ear attends your words,
Why speak them forth at all?
At least reveal to me,
Why thus you speak in vain.”
5.
“Better tell me first,
Who inquires of this query?
Then shall I render
My answer unto thee.”
6.
No more voice
Did then emerge.
I know not who
Spoke and listened both.
7.
This plight is now
Of many folk.
E’en the right to voice it
Is denied them.
8.
The time to claim
One’s rights has passed.
Living alone has
Become a heavy burden.
9.
What right is left
To the aged ones,
Who live in solitude,
Talking to themselves?
10.
But what alternative
Is left to them,
Save to endure
Such a life?
11.
E’en God Himself,
With sole right to end this,
Has somehow too
Lost His own right.
12.
Did He too
Grow old as we?
And does He now
Live alone as we?
13.
We could join Him,
Give Him company if He calls.
But even this
Is beyond Him now.
14.
What can be done,
If old age comes?
Such shall be the fate
Of everyone thus afflicted.
Gurukulam, 12-12-23, 2.30 pm.
BT Song 1534: See 1533
BT Song 1534 Sing and See
Simple English
1.
As God also
Became an old person
Like all other
Old people,
2.
Diminished in eyesight,
Listening capacity also reduced,
Unable to talk properly as his tongue gets twisted,
He too remains quiet.
3.
Therefore, no matter how much
We raise our voices,
Or how often we
Lament about our situation,
4.
He also remains
In silence,
Unable to listen to us
Or respond.
5.
There is no use
In using any sign language,
He is not within the proximity
To observe that either.
6.
Whether he is
Near or far away,
He never
Observes us.
7.
OK, let it be.
Let me try to communicate
By doing meditation,
And as I tried,
8.
When I started to
Meditate and observed,
He also went to sleep,
As he too became very tired.
9.
Finally, thinking that let me
At least record this,
And when I started
To write this song,
10.
From somewhere,
He came running to me
And requested,
‘Gentleman, please stop it.’
11.
Now I understood
One great secret
Why all his devotees
Wrote songs to sing.
12.
Either he will come
Running to them
To listen
Or to stop it (as he always does to me).
13.
As they learned this
Only through their experience,
They all have
Done only this.
14.
Therefore, if you want
God to listen to you,
Just begin to
Sing some song.
15.
Then he will come
Running towards you.
Just try and see
Whether this happens or not.
Gurukulam, 12-12-23, 5.30 p.m.
BT Song 1534 Sing and See
Classical English
1.
As God Himself,
Grew aged and gray,
Like all other
Elderly folk,
2.
Eyesight failing,
Hearing diminished,
Unable to speak clearly,
For his tongue is twisted,
3.
He too abides
In silence profound,
No matter how loud
Our lamentations sound.
4.
Though we raise our voices
And frequently bemoan,
He remains mute,
Unable to respond.
5.
Using signs is futile,
For He is not near,
He observes not our gestures,
Neither far nor near.
6.
Be He near or far,
He sees us not,
In quiet He dwells,
Not knowing our lot.
7.
So let it be,
Let me communicate,
Through meditation deep,
As I contemplate,
8.
In meditation profound,
I perceived His state,
He too fell asleep,
Weary and sedate.
9.
Finally, thinking
To at least record,
I began to write
This song to my Lord,
10.
From somewhere distant,
He ran to me fast,
Saying, “Cease,
Kind sir, at last.”
11.
Now I comprehend
A secret profound,
Why all His devotees
With songs did abound.
12.
Either He comes running,
To listen or to cease,
As He always does
With me, to bring peace.
13.
Through experience they learned,
This simple truth,
And thus they sang
In their devoted youth.
14.
Therefore, if you wish
God to heed your plea,
Start singing a song,
With heart full and free.
15.
Then He will come,
Running to your side,
Try it and see,
If He does not abide.
Gurukulam, 12-12-23, 5.30 p.m.
BT Song 1535
My brother called and informed me that today he completed all the twelve months’ rituals for our mother. However, the final yearly one will be performed from January 12th to 14th [as per the star Hindus do the ritual, not based on the calendar date]. When I received this information, I mentally joined him in those rituals, silently shedding tears for my mother. Then, unable to control my thoughts, I wrote this song.
No mother will ever tell her child to die with her. They only wish for their children to live long enough. But seeing my life as a single person, her only worry was that if she was gone, I would become an orphan. She often said it would be better to leave early than to live as an orphan. For me, that is a blessing, and each day I pray to the Lord: the sooner, the better, as I have no reason to live.
BT Song 1535 Ask Him
Simple English
1.
Thinking that
You lived enough,
Though you have gone,
Somehow you forgot me.
2.
How can you forget
What you said:
‘Better you also
Come along with me.’
3.
However, God
Didn’t give
The right to us
To take others along with us.
4.
It is not correct
On His part,
Who gave the duty
To procreate.
5.
He alone established
This law,
That right belongs to Him
And duty alone for us.
6.
Therefore, without
Having any right,
He demanded us
To do our duty.
7.
If we question
Even that,
He says that
We don’t have even that right.
8.
Therefore, if you
Ever see Him,
Remind Him
Often about me.
9.
‘Show some
Extra grace,
So that he can
Come at the earliest.’
10.
Arguing like this,
Somehow you
Try to find
Some means to take me.
11.
At the same time,
Tell Him that
The sooner it happens,
The better for me.
12.
Each day,
Longing for that day,
Somehow I am living;
You better notice it.
Gurukulam, 14-12-2023, 6.10 p.m.
BT Song 1535 Ask Him
Classical English
1.
Thinking, enough have you lived,
Though departed,
Somehow you have forgotten
Your promise to me.
2.
How can you forget
Your words:
‘Better you too
Come along with me.’
3.
Yet, the Almighty
Granted not
The right to us
To take others in our departure.
4.
It seems unjust,
From He who ordained
The duty
Of procreation upon us.
5.
For He alone
Decreed this law,
That the right is His
And the duty ours alone.
6.
Thus, without
Any rights,
He bids us
Fulfill our duties.
7.
Should we question
This decree,
He asserts
We lack even that right.
8.
Therefore, if ever
You encounter Him,
Remind Him
Frequently of me.
9.
‘Show some
Extra grace,
That he may
Come soon to thee.’
10.
In such arguments,
Try to secure
Some means
To bring me along.
11.
Simultaneously,
Tell Him that
The sooner it happens,
The better for me.
12.
Daily I yearn
For that day,
Living somehow;
Please observe this truth.

அறிந்ததினாலே
அதையே அவரும்
செய்தும் வைத்தார் 13
ஆகவே இறைவன்
கேட்கணும் என்றால்
ஏதோ பாட்டை
எடுத்து விடுங்கள் 14
அதன்பின் அவனும்
ஓடியே வருவான்
நடக்குதா இல்லையா
என்பதை பாருங்கள் 15
குருகுலம் 12-12-23, மாலை 5.30
BT Song 1535 அவனைக் கேளு
போதும் என்ற
எண்ணம் கொண்டு
போனவள் என்னை
ஏனோ மறந்தாய் 1
கூடவே வந்திடு
என்று சொன்னதை
எப்படி நீயும்
மறந்து போவாய் 2
அழைத்துச் செல்லும்
உரிமையை இறைவன்
ஏனோ நமக்கு
தந்திட வில்லை 3
ஈன்று தந்திடும்
கடமை தந்தவன்
அதனை மறுத்தது
நியாயமே இல்லை 4
கடமை நமக்கு
உரிமை தனக்கு
என்று அவனே
நிச்சயம் செய்தான் 5
ஆகவே எவ்வித
உரிமையும் இன்றி
கடமை மட்டும்
செய்யப் பணித்தான் 6
அதனைத் தட்டி
நாமும் கேட்டால்
அதற்கும் உரிமை
இல்லை என்றான் 7
ஆகவே அவனை
நீயும் பார்த்தால்
அடிக்கடி என்னை
நினைவு படுத்தி 8
சீக்கிரம் வந்து
சேர்ந்திட உதவி
சற்றே அதிக
கருணை காட்டு 9
என்றே அவனிடம்
வாதம் செய்து
அழைத்துச் செல்லும்
வழியைப் பாரு 10
ஆயினும் அதுவும்
சீக்கிரம் நடந்தால்
அதுவே போதும்
என்றும் கூறு 11
அந்த நாளுக்கு
அனுதினம் ஏங்கி
ஏதோ வாழ்கிறேன்
அதையும் பாரு 12
