BT Songs 1541 to 1550

BT Song 1541

Though I enjoy the silence around me, I am still much disturbed by my thoughts. They never allow me to immerse myself in the silence around me. If I cannot tune into the silence around me, then there is no use in it. I want to live not only alone, surrounded by nature, but also experiencing that silence within me. I know several people have claimed to have attained that stage [of Nirvikalpa Samadhi] and returned. I neither agree with it nor deny it as it is their experience. But who is the one who brings so many thoughts without any break? As I was thinking about it, I wrote this song asking that question to God.

BT Song 1541 Who is Pinching?

Simple English

1

There are many things

To share with you

I don’t know which one to share

And which one to leave

2

Though you understand

Without me sharing

Still, I alone have the need

To share with you

3

I am not sharing this

To unload any burden

And there are no other

Reasons for this

4

I am not even sharing this

To remove my loneliness

As there is no need

For it to both of us

5

From where this many

Thoughts are coming?

Who is responsible for this

You better tell that to me

6

Is it my brain or my mind

Which one among the two

Or is it the voice

Of my atman?

7

As you alone have

Put thoughts within me

You alone should give

Answer also

8

As you have created me

In your image

Other than you

Who knows the reason?

9

As you are the final

Cause of everything

Who is responsible

Other than you

10

Did you become the

Babysitter who pinches

And then rock the cradle

At least tell that to me

11

If the mother comes

And sings lullaby again

The baby might

Again sleep

12

But I become

Like that baby

Who refuses to sleep

Even if the babysitter sings lullaby

13

Are you the one

Who is doing this even?

Did you do this

By becoming a babysitter?

14

There are similar

Other questions

If you give an answer to this

I will share the rest of them

BT Song 1541 Who is Pinching?

Classical English

1

Of myriad thoughts I wish to tell,

Not knowing which to voice, which quell.

This quandary leaves me quite perplexed,

Uncertain which thought to express.

2

Though silently you comprehend,

My need to speak shall never end.

For in my heart, a longing deep,

To share with you, my soul to keep.

3

‘Tis not to lighten burden’s load,

Nor other reasons I have showed.

This need to speak, so purely felt,

From depths of heart it has been dealt.

4

Not even loneliness to abate,

For such need, we both negate.

In solitude, we’re both content,

No need for words to be spent.

5

From whence do all these musings spring?

Their origin, do tell, I cling.

Who plants such thoughts within my mind?

This answer, pray, let me find.

6

Is it my brain or heart that speaks?

Or voice of soul, where wisdom leaks?

Which of these brings forth the sound?

Do tell me where the truth is found.

7

For you have placed these thoughts in me,

You alone must hold the key.

The answers you must now impart,

For you alone reside in heart.

8

In your own image I was made,

None but you, the reason laid.

Who else but you can know the why,

Of all the thoughts that in me lie?

9

You are the cause, the primal source,

Of every thought and inner force.

None other bears this weight but thee,

The burden of this mystery.

10

Didst thou become the nurse so dear,

Who rocks the cradle, pinching near?

At least this answer give to me,

Didst thou become the nurse for thee?

11

If mother comes with lullaby,

The weeping child, once more will try,

To close its eyes and drift to sleep,

In mother’s arms, in slumber deep.

12

But I, like child who stays awake,

Though nurse’s song no slumber make.

A sleepless babe, though lullaby,

I remain awake, no dreams to buy.

13

Are you the one, who plays this part?

The nurse who soothes with tender heart?

By becoming nurse, dost thou do this?

Is this thy role, this earthly bliss?

14

There are many queries, this but one,

Answer it, and more shall be spun.

For if you reply to this I plea,

The rest of my thoughts I’ll share with thee.

Gurukulam, 19-12-23, 4.45 pm.

BT Song 1542

There are two views about competition: one is healthy and motivates people to do their best, and the other brings unnecessary tension and an obsession only with success. Personally, I think it has both these aspects, and it is up to the individual to decide where to compete and where to give priority.

When two people compete, one wins and the other loses, though some come up as runners. However, when God competes with a bhakta, only the bhakta wins, and God is happy to lose [like in a game where the parents deliberately lose to make the child win]. But when I am forced to compete with myself, then neither I win nor lose, but God alone ends up paying the cost, as He alone has to face the consequence of dragging me into that competition with myself. As He often drags me into this competition, I have to drag Him into contention between us on this matter. The result is this song.

 1542: High Price

 Simple English

1

If I say I won’t compete,

Leave me alone without speaking,

Don’t drag me into meaningless disputes,

Just let me be in peace.

2

If you drag me into useless quarrels,

Can you then leave and run away?

Don’t involve me in senseless conflicts,

Let me stay out of this mess.

3

I don’t know the rules,

Nor do I understand the competition,

Yet you throw me into the field,

Expecting me to play.

4

Without telling me whom to compete with,

How can you prepare me?

You need to clarify the opponent,

For me to get ready.

5

If the competition is with you,

I’ll dive in bravely,

And join the challenge immediately,

With courage and determination.

6

In the end, victory will be mine,

So there’s no need for preparation,

I am destined to win,

Without any effort.

7

If it’s with others,

I’ll give way and play gently,

Competing without intensity,

Just for fun.

8

If you want to compete with me,

Why cause unnecessary trouble?

Why create conflicts,

When there’s no need for them?

9

Without asking questions,

What else can I do?

There’s no necessity,

Even if it seems that way.

10

If I ask you the reason,

You refuse to answer,

Why deny me the explanation,

For what you’re doing?

11

Don’t you know how our past competitions,

Have always ended?

No clear victories or defeats,

Just an ongoing life.

12

I continue to live,

Without winning or losing,

Isn’t that clear to you?

This life moves on.

13

If you need to watch,

Find another way,

Don’t make me a spectacle,

In your play.

14

Don’t buy trouble,

For a high price,

Don’t engage in this act,

Just let it go.

15

If you drag me into disputes,

Watch what happens next,

The spectacle will be,

Interesting to see.

16

Even the price you’ll pay,

Will be very high,

Think about it carefully,

Before you act.

Gurukulam, 21-12-23, Night, 11.45

 1542: High Price

 Classical English

1

If I declare, “No contest will I engage,”

Silently leave me be, do not enrage.

Abstain from dragging me to quarrels small,

Release me from this trifling squall.

2

Should you entangle me in trivial fight,

Can you then swiftly take your flight?

Do not involve me in these petty rows,

Let me remain in peaceful vows.

3

I know not the rules, nor competition’s sway,

Yet you thrust me into the fray.

Expecting me to battle in the field,

Unaware, with no shield.

4

Without revealing whom I must oppose,

How can you prepare me, disclose?

Clarify the rival, I entreat,

For readiness I must meet.

5

If the contest be with you,

I’ll courageously pursue.

Straight into the challenge I’ll go,

With valor to bestow.

6

In the end, the victory shall be mine,

Thus, no preparation do I design.

Destined am I to win,

With no prior toil or spin.

7

If with others I must compete,

I’ll gently play, not cheat.

Engaging in a mild display,

Competing lightly, just to play.

8

If with me you wish to vie,

Why needless trouble do you try?

Creating conflicts sans necessity,

Fostering unnecessary complexity.

9

Without inquiring, what remains to do?

There’s no true need, this much is true.

No necessity compels this course,

Even if it seems the force.

10

If I ask the reason why,

You refuse my query nigh.

Why deny me explanation clear,

For actions that appear so mere?

11

Are you not aware, our past contests all,

Have never seen a decisive fall?

No clear vict’ry nor defeat defined,

Just life’s ongoing, intertwined.

12

Thus, I persist in life’s steady flow,

Without triumph, without woe.

Is this not evident to thee?

Life moves on, endlessly.

13

Should you seek amusement in my plight,

Find another path, set it right.

Do not turn me to your spectacle’s core,

In your amusement, implore.

14

Do not purchase strife at high expense,

Cease this folly, spare no pence.

Engage not in this futile act,

Simply let it lapse, in fact.

15

If you drag me to contention’s pit,

Observe the aftermath of it.

The spectacle ensuing there,

Will indeed be quite rare.

16

Even the cost you’ll have to bear,

Will be exceedingly unfair.

Ponder well before you engage,

In actions that set the stage.

Gurukulam, 21-12-23, Night, 11.45

BT Song 1543

Another struggle with my mind. There is no point in arguing with it. After venting my anger and blaming God for giving me such a mind, I have to live this struggle always with my mind—which never allows me to remain calm, always forcing me to think about everything I do—be it reading, writing, or other works in life. But my only consolation is that I can register my opposition in words through poems.

 1543: No Care

 Simple English

1

If you don’t want it,

Just leave it alone.

Stop doing things,

That are useless and unknown.

2

If someone says,

“This is wrong,”

You should try,

To correct it and be strong.

3

Don’t you have,

Other work to do?

Has this become,

A habit for you?

4

You can make fun,

By laughing at the town,

It might give you,

Some joy around.

5

I have a thousand,

Jobs to do,

Everyday life,

Is heavy too.

6

If you join in,

With your ways,

Who will have,

The strength these days?

7

If it’s wrong,

You get mad,

If punished,

You do it more, and it’s sad.

8

Correcting you,

Has worn me out,

What else to do,

I have no doubt.

9

Can’t exclude,

Can’t ignore,

Look at this,

Situation more.

10

Who else but the one,

Who placed you here,

Can be responsible,

For this, my dear?

11

You have no care,

No compassion to share,

Even He has,

No concern there.

12

Your alliance is,

Doing just fine,

I watch from afar,

From my line.

13

After debating,

Who’s to blame,

What more is there,

In this game?

Gurukulam, 21-12-23, Evening, 6.30 pm

 1543: No Care

 Classical English Translation:

1

If thou dost not desire,

Then leave it be.

Cease these acts,

Of frivolity.

2

If one declares,

“This is an error,”

Thou shouldst strive,

To amend with fervor.

3

Hast thou no other,

Task to perform?

Hath this become,

Thy usual norm?

4

Thou canst mock,

The village fair,

It may bring thee,

Some joy there.

5

A thousand tasks,

Await me still,

Daily life,

Is a heavy mill.

6

Shouldst thou join,

With thy ways,

Who possesses,

The strength these days?

7

If wrong, thou dost rage,

If punished, thou persist,

In errors new,

Such acts resist.

8

Correcting thee,

Has wearied me,

What else remains,

Tell me, to be.

9

Cannot exclude,

Cannot ignore,

Behold this state,

Forevermore.

10

Who but He,

That placed thee here,

Can bear the blame,

This is clear.

11

Thou lackest care,

Compassion too,

Even He shows,

No concern anew.

12

Thy alliance stands,

Strong and fine,

I observe from afar,

In my line.

13

After contesting,

Who is to blame,

What remains,

In this game?

BT Song 1544

After typing these two poems [1542, 1543], I went to have my dinner. At that time, I thought that as I often write poems always having some contention with God, I almost stopped writing poems praising Him. Then I thought, let me write a romantic poem as God also should have some kind of respite from my rebukes and contentions. This Rati bhava expresses a subtle kind of bhakti. In all other relationships, there is some kind of hierarchy between God and His bhakta. In Viraha bhakti also, there will be more rebuke and accusations with tears due to ‘love in separation’. But when it comes to Rati bhava, both God and the bhakta stand equal as they both enjoy and mingle with each other without knowing any separation. No doubt many mystics wrote such songs to express their mysticism. Then I continued to write the poem in my mind and after quickly finishing the dinner, I came and wrote this poem. And we both are very happy.

 1544: Your Belonging

 Simple English

1

I said enough, enough,

Stop your mischief,

I told you to end,

Your rowdy behavior.

2

If I stand there,

With shyness and blush,

You should come and,

Comfort me, I did rush.

3

Even if our bond,

Is very old,

No matter how many days,

We have spent, and hold.

4

When love comes,

You should understand,

The state of a girl,

Needs a gentle hand.

5

If you come as a mother,

I will run to you,

If you come as a lord,

I will bow to you too.

6

When you come as a lover,

I hesitate with shame,

Feeling shy,

In this love game.

7

Just because I said,

You are my lord,

Doing this,

Is really hard.

8

How much love,

How much teasing,

Crossing limits,

Is it pleasing?

9

The closeness in this,

Not found in other bonds,

How did it come,

Between us, so fond?

10

When we unite,

After a fight,

The whole world fades,

I understand it right.

11

So if you come,

Like this often,

I will give you,

Love-filled poems.

12

But if you come,

In any other bond,

There will be clashes,

I had warned.

13

Is that why,

You do like this?

Hugging me tightly,

Refusing to dismiss?

14

Whatever you do,

I will agree,

Because I belong,

To you, you see.

Gurukulam, 21-12-23, Evening, 7.45 pm

 1544: Your Belonging

 Classical English

1

“Enough, enough,” I said,

Cease thy mischief now,

I urged thee to end,

Thy boisterous brow.

2

Shouldst I stand there,

Blushing with shame,

Thou shouldst come to me,

And console my name.

3

Even if our bond,

Be of old yore,

No matter the days,

We have spent in store.

4

When love doth arrive,

Thou must comprehend,

The state of a maiden,

And gently attend.

5

If thou comest as a mother,

To thee I shall race,

If thou comest as a lord,

Thy feet I shall grace.

6

When thou comest as a lover,

I hesitate with shame,

Feeling shy,

In this tender game.

7

Because I proclaimed,

“Thou art my lord,”

Such actions thou takest,

Are truly untoward.

8

How much love,

How much teasing,

Crossing all bounds,

Is this appeasing?

9

This closeness found,

In no other ties,

How did it spring,

Between you and I?

10

When we unite,

After discord’s flight,

The world fades away,

I grasp its light.

11

So if thou comest,

In love’s frequent dance,

I shall gift thee,

Poems of romance.

12

But if thou comest,

In any other guise,

Clashes shall arise,

As I surmise.

13

Is it why thou dost,

Act in this manner?

Hugging me tight,

Refusing to scatter?

14

Whatever thou dost,

I shall consent,

For I too am thine,

With no dissent.

Gurukulam, 21-12-23, Evening, 7.45 pm

Bhakti Song 1545

When I read the following lines from Rumi, I was struck by one word of God ‘slapping’ the bhakta to teach her the secret of bhakti, which is always a mystic experience where all kinds of duality disappear. No theology or philosophy can explain this, and certain theologies/philosophies won’t even accept it. But like a mystic, a bhakta also transcends theology/philosophy to become one with the TRANSCENDENTAL-IMMANENT ETERNAL REALITY in her pilgrimage.

Not only Rumi but so many mystics and various bhakti saints have expressed the same view based on their experience, going beyond all kinds of human limitations. If I start to quote even some of them, that will go for several pages. And there is no need for that, as each bhakta has her own unique experience that needs no endorsement from others—even from God?! Going beyond even Rumi’s experience.

….I reached my hand

To touch you. You struck it down.

“Why are you so harsh with me?”

“for good reason. But certainly not

To keep you away! Whoever enters this place

Saying Here I am must be slapped.

This is not a pen for sheep.

There are no separating distances here.

This is love’s sanctuary.

 1545: I Disappeared in You

 Simple English

1

When I stretched,

My hands to touch you,

Why did you reject it?

2

When I asked,

This question to you,

You said, “If you come with a sense of ‘I’ to me,

3

In order to help you,

You must understand,

That it is not ‘I’ who is coming,

I gave that slap.”

4

With the sense of ‘I’,

And even renouncing yourself,

You have to come to me,

Who dwells within you.

5

And to help you realize,

That the one who comes,

Unto me is also,

Not that ‘I’.”

6

When you gave that response,

I realized that you gave that,

Not to me,

But only to yourself.

7

Once I understood this,

Along with ‘I’ and ‘mine’,

Renouncing me completely,

And experiencing that,

8

I becoming You,

And You becoming me,

Both coming together,

Merging with each other.

Gurukulam, 21-12-2023, 11.30 pm

 1545: I Disappeared in You

 Classical English Translation:

1

When I did stretch,

My hands to touch thee,

Why didst thou reject,

This act from me?

2

When I inquired,

This question to thee,

Thou saidst, “If thou comest with a sense of ‘I’ to me,

3

To aid thy understanding,

Thou must grasp,

That it is not ‘I’ who approaches,

Hence, I gave that slap.”

4

With the sense of ‘I’,

And renouncing thyself,

Thou must come to me,

Who within thee doth dwell.

5

And to aid thy realization,

That the one who cometh,

Unto me is also,

Not that ‘I’.”

6

When thou gavest that response,

I did realize,

That thou gavest it not to me,

But only to thyself, wise.

7

Once I comprehended this,

Along with ‘I’ and ‘mine’,

Renouncing myself wholly,

And experiencing the divine,

8

I becoming Thee,

And Thou becoming me,

Both merging as one,

In perfect unity.

ஒதுங்கவும் முடியாது

இருக்கும் நிலையை

நீயே பாரு 9

உன்னை என்னுடன்

வைத்தவன் இன்றி

இதற்கும் வேறு

பொறுப்பு யாரு 10

ஈவு இரக்கம்

உனக்கு இல்லை

அதுபற்றி அவனுக்கும்

அக்கறை இல்லை 11

நன்றாய் இருக்கு

உங்கள் கூட்டணி

நானும் ஒருகை

பார்க்கிறேன் பாரினி 12

நீயா நானா

என்று ஆனபின்

மேற்கொண்டு என்ன

பேசுவது போதும் 13

BT Song 1544
