BT Songs 1571 to 1575

 BT Song 1571

I’ve long pondered this question: If God controls my life and each thought and word comes from Him, then everything I do is according to His will—even actions that go against His will, which He allows to teach me valuable lessons. No theology or philosophy can provide a definitive answer to this debate, as philosophy falters where faith begins.

BT Song 1571 Whose Will?

Simple English

‘There will

be some benefit

If things go

according to His will

If your will

interferes in it

Then the consequence

would be yours’

When many

said this to me

Then a question

came within me:

Where do I have a

separate will

When every action of mine

belongs to Him

When my will also

becomes His will

How can I accept

any responsibility for my action

When did God

give the freedom

For me to do things

as per my preferences

Once the desire was

given by Him

Then He alone

made me act accordingly

When my situation

is like this

Who can tell

whose will belongs to whom?

Who will separate

my will from

God’s will

And show it to me?

I don’t have any

answer for this question

I don’t have

my own will

Thinking that

Let Him give the

answer to this question also

And giving the responsibility to Him

Only seeing even

the benefit in this

Is only His will

for me at present

He alone gave

this answer also’

By telling this to them

I closed the topic here

BT Song 1571 Whose Will?

Classical English

‘There shall be

some benefit

if things proceed

according to His will

If thy will

interferes with it

then the consequence

shall be thine’.

When many

uttered this unto me

then a question

arose within me:

Wherefore have I a

separate will

when every action of mine

belongeth to Him

When my will also

becometh His will

how can I accept

any responsibility for my action

When did God

grant the freedom

for me to act

according to my preferences

Once the desire was

bestowed by Him

then He alone

compelled me to act accordingly

When my circumstance

is thus

who can discern

whose will belongeth to whom?

Who shall separate

my will from

God’s will

and show it unto me?

I possess no

answer for this query

I possess no

will of mine own

Pondering thus

let Him provide the

answer to this question also

and entrusting the responsibility unto Him

Perceiving even

the benefit in this

is solely His will

for me at present

He alone hath

provided this answer also

By thus declaring unto them

I concluded the matter here

 BT Song 1572

Reflecting on the many changes in my life—thoughts, ethics, spirituality, relationships, etc.—I realized that I couldn’t have made certain changes (whether good or bad) on my own. While Samkhya philosophy attributes change to the interplay of the three gunas (Sattva, Tamasa, and Rajas) along with Purusha, as a bhakta, I believe it is the Lord who, by grafting me to Him, has brought about changes that help me live as a normal human being while celebrating my bhakti in everyday life.

BT Song 1572 You Did This

Simple English

This change

How did it come

Who put this

Inside me?

Will this nature

Come on its own

Will the natural quality

Itself change?

If there is something

Called a natural trait

Who gave it

When I was born?

The power to

Change that trait

Who placed it

Inside me now?

This is a puzzle

Inside me

No matter how much I try

I can’t understand it

But one thing

Is certain

This change

Doesn’t come on its own

Neither religion nor the Vedas

Nor humans gave it

Even my own efforts

Couldn’t change it

You gave it

This I know

How you did it

This I don’t understand

Somehow, you

Descended upon me

Thinking of what you did

I will thank you

In Flight, Dehradun, 11-2-2024, 4:30 pm.

BT Song 1572 Thou Didst This

Classical English

This change

How did it come?

Who placed this

Within me?

Will this nature

Arise on its own?

Will the natural disposition

Itself alter?

If there be something

Called a natural trait

Who bestowed it

At my birth?

The power to

Alter that trait

Who placed it

Within me now?

This is a riddle

Within me

No matter how much I strive

I fail to comprehend it

But one thing

Is certain

This change

Comes not on its own

Neither religion nor the Vedas

Nor humans bestowed it

Even my own endeavors

Could not alter it

Thou gavest it

This I know

How thou didst it

This I comprehend not

Somehow, thou

Descended upon me

Reflecting upon what thou hast done

I shall thank thee

 BT Song 1473

I went to Dehradun to mediate some issues that had strained relationships within the mandali. I listened to both sides and, without taking sides, pointed out that unless a compromise is reached, personal relationships will ultimately suffer. The question isn’t about who is right or wrong; it’s about the importance of compromise for the sake of relationships. After the meeting, as I reflected on this, I wrote this song.

BT Song 1573 Which One is Lost

Simple English

Losing what we already have

Now we are searching for it again

No matter how much others tell us about it

We refuse to listen to them

We didn’t consult anyone

Before losing it

Once we have lost it

Now we call many to search for it

Not searching where we lost it

Now searching in many places

We also call others

To join and do the same

Not searching where we lost it

Unless the one who lost it searches for it

Even if many join us now

There’s no use in it

Still, the matter isn’t out of our control

If we search calmly

Surely we will get it back

With a clear understanding of what we have lost

Knowing the price

That we paid for it

Thinking clearly whether

It’s worth searching for it again

Or better to buy a new one

And accepting it if that’s a good choice

We should try to

Find it again

Otherwise, leaving it behind

We should press forward

It won’t be a great loss

If it were merely a material loss

But if it’s a relationship that we have lost

Nothing is more cruel than that

If we have lost material things

There’s every possibility

To gain them back

But if we lose a relationship

Then we can’t restore it back that easily

Realizing this truth

Living life accordingly

Nurturing the relationship carefully

If we live this way, there will be blessings

BT Song 1573 Which One is Lost

Classical English

Losing that which we already possess

Now we search for it anew

No matter how much others speak of it

We refuse to hearken unto them

We consulted none

Before losing it

Having lost it

Now we summon many to seek it

Not searching where it was lost

Now seeking in diverse places

We call others as well

To join in this endeavor

Not searching where it was lost

Unless the one who lost it searches

Even if many join us now

There is no avail in it

Still, the matter is not beyond our grasp

If we search with calm

Surely, we shall regain it

With clear understanding of what we have lost

Knowing the value

That we paid for it

Thinking clearly whether

It is worth seeking again

Or better to procure anew

And accepting it if that be wise

We should strive to

Recover it

Else, leaving it behind

We should press onward

It shall not be a great loss

If it were merely a material loss

But if it be a relationship lost

Nothing is more grievous than that

If material things be lost

There is every chance

To regain them

But if a relationship be lost

It is not easily restored

Realizing this truth

Living life accordingly

Nurturing relationships with care

If we live thus, blessings shall abound

 BT Song 1574

I am reflecting on a situation where someone refused to understand their wrongdoing and wasn’t willing to repent and reconcile. After several meetings with various people, we couldn’t reach a solution. During an evening walk, while pondering our human nature and inability to resolve the issue, I found myself blaming God once again.

BT Song 1574 You Deserve This

Simple English

Not disclosed to me

Unable to understand

The way I live

How to talk about it

When it’s

Not clear to me

How can I make

Others understand?

You, who know,

Refuse to tell

“It’s better not to understand,”

You also say this

When you are

Confused and not understanding

What would happen if you understand?

You say this

Though you said this

Very easily

Once you kept

Mind within me

How can I live

Without understanding?

Now you give

An answer to this

Dodging everything

Has become your

Habit now

Once you created me

In your own image

How can this

Your act be justified?

Did you also not know

About my situation?

Were you also

Unable to understand it?

That’s why

Confused like me

You gave

This response to me

Ok, let it be

Indeed you were confused

As you became

Human like us

Refused to think

Before creating

Now frustrated

After creating us

This your situation

Is worse than mine

But you deserve

This punishment also

 BT Song 1575

This song reflects on the failure of our attempts to bring about reconciliation with someone who had made a mistake. I warned that God gives us a long rope, which we can either use to climb back as He holds the other end or use to hang ourselves by pulling it from His hand. There’s no point in blaming everyone, including the arbitrators, for one’s own mistakes.

BT Song 1575 No use in lamenting

Simple English

1

Nothing new

For us to learn

It’s enough to remember

What we already knew

2

Forgetting how much

He has done so far

Only thinking what

He ought to do further

3

Reaching Him

Again and again

We drown

In unredeemable sorrow

4

The one who gave

A limited tail to the goat

Knows well

All our needs

5

If we become that fool

Longing for the one in the bush

Losing the one in hand

What can He do for that?

6

He kept wisdom

To know ethics

He gave Bhakti

To implement it

7

But we refused to go

Even after He showed the direction

By creating a path

For us to walk

8

Knowing our weakness

Understanding our nature

Though He comes

Along with us

9

Refusing to give

Our hand for Him to hold

When we go

In our own way

10

Knowing well

By experience

That an untamed bull

Won’t cooperate

11

When He takes the whip

And is ready to use

Immediately we will

Come back to the path

12

But becoming upset

Even for that

Murmuring

All the way

13

There’s no point

In lamenting

Blaming others

Even for that

Dheradun, 18-2-2024, 3.45 pm.

BT Song 1575 Of Lamentation No Avail

Classical English

1

Naught of novelty

In our learning lies

‘Tis sufficient to recall

What we have once known

2

Forgetting how much

He hath done hitherto

Pondering solely upon

What further He ought do

3

Seeking Him

Time and again

We submerge

In irrevocable sorrow

4

He who hath given

A limited tail to the goat

Doth know

All our needs

5

Should we become the fool

Yearning for the distant

Losing what is in hand

What can He for that do?

6

He imparted wisdom

For knowing ethics

And bestowed Bhakti

For its practice

7

Yet we refused to tread

Though He revealed the direction

Creating a path

For us to follow

8

Understanding our frailty

Comprehending our nature

Yet He cometh

Alongside us

9

Withholding our hand

For Him to hold

Whilst we go

Our own way

10

Knowing full well

Through experience

That an untamed bull

Shall not comply

11

When He wields the whip

Poised to strike

Immediately we shall

Return to the path

12

Yet we grieve

Even for that

Murmuring

All the way

13

Of lamentation there is

No avail

Nor in blaming others

Even for that

BT Song 1571

1
