BT Songs 161 to 165

161.   I came

I came with joy in my heart

And bowed at your feet to worship you

Oh my God my Father you too

Walk with me today closely

Is there anyone like you in this world?

Who call themselves as our relatives on this earth?

You became mother and father to me

You will remain as my (elder) brother and friend to me

Can I communicate through words and thoughts?

All that I have in my mind?

You became one within me in my sense

Are there any relationships like yours?  Tell it!

What else do I require in this life?

Your relationship is enough for me

I came unto your feet because of my right

I will worship you every day.

18-06-2013, Gurukulam .

After writing the previous song (160) I sang it as my prayer.  But I was not content with it. Then stopping my prayer I took the paper and immediately wrote this song as I cannot come out from that inspiration of celebrating my relationship with Him.

162.  Come to overlord me

You should come to lord over me

I should give myself for that to you

I should immerse myself in you

For that I need your grace

I don’t have any personal strength

I never found victory over me

I never took courage to come unto your feet

If your grace is not there I cannot have life

I attempted several ways in many times

I got defeated after taking countless decisions

I won’t tell that I have done it unknowingly

And I know that you know about it

By seeking ‘refuge’ I again came unto you

I begged to show little bit of compassion

Why do you delay this much?

How your hesitation can be justified

Don’t I have any right with you?

Don’t you have the relationship with me?

Before others know you come unto me

Then let us contest the case

I never will be defeated in this case

Definitely I will get victory in the final judgment

Meanwhile this drama that happens in between

Never will come to an end till I live

Story is yours and the scene is also yours

To act accordingly is my dharma

I am your slave who never breach your word

And lord overing me is your dharma (too)

20-06-2013 9.00. am. Gurukulam

This is one of my favourite songs.  I not only remind the Lord about my ‘right’ but also His relationship with me.  Now as He redeemed me and I became His child, the responsibility is more with Him than for me.  It is His relationship with me and not my relationship with Him.  Of course in every relationship there will be friction and contentions.  There will be arguments over issues.  But the relationship is never abandoned.  This is my experience often with my mother.  She will argue with me on every issue (and that too each day—a woman’s prerogative on which man cannot do much.) They inherited it as their birthright.  But it will be a win-win situation for both of us when we do the art of ‘give and take’.  In my life too, I realize that the script of my life is written by Him and He alone decided the scenes. My only dharma is to act as per His instruction.  That is why I said however He would like to tussle with me, the ultimate victory be a joint one—both for Him and me. Isn’t such bhakti joyful one?

163. Gave life

You gave life to me

You alone emancipated me

You gave me the stand to live in you

You redeemed me for the world to see!

I too know well about me

I know the condition of my heart

I have decided to live for you

I will live for you for the world to know

This relationship that we have

That sentiment that we have, no one knows

Let us continue every day

So that no one will know about it

That is called bhakti

Bliss is its nature

Mukti is its end

Fullness is its glory

Is it possible to tell it through words?

Can others understand through our lives?

It is a glory transcending heart and words

But can be understood only through bhakti

The Primordial Only Being I hail you

I praise the Lord of Mukti

The one who become the first and the end

I belong to you completely

24-06-2013. 9.00. am.  Gurukulam

There is a contradiction in this song.  I say that God redeemed me for the world to see and also I promise to live for the world to know.  But at the same time this life of bhakti cannot be communicated through words or even through our lives. It is like a couple living together.  Others know about their relationship and life, yet they cannot communicate it by words or even through their lives.  It is both open and hidden. The same is with bhakti. Though bhakti is a common concept yet each bhakta’s life with the Lord is her personal one which others cannot understand.

164.   Is it enough

Is time enough to praise you?

To tell you your glory time is enough?

Is intellect is enough to know your greatness

Is the heart enough to know your love?

Is number is enough to count your blessings

Is my thought is enough to know your grace

Are words enough to tell your mercy?

Is the creation enough to measure your rule?

What kind of foolishness/maya this that I took courage to

Tell about this grace which cannot be understood

The compassion which cannot be (merely) proclaimed

The greatness of this love which cannot be realized?

Yet not standing far away from me

Not transcending my heart and words

You are dwelling in my heart

And you gave bhakti for me to experience this

I learnt the secret about this

I recorded for the world to know this

Not keeping it locked within me

I have written this in these words

Like the water that quenches the thirst

like the food that removes the hunger

like the medicine that cures the sickness

you came seeking after me because of your compassion

But you are not my own only

You never became my private property

You belong to the whole world

You took avatara as Muktesan.

26-06-2013. 8.30 am. Gurukulam

Though I have written these songs and even posted in my blog I never took any interest to share much with others. Of course few in our mandali know some of my songs, but do not know the background and context of them.  First reason is that I never like to push my views on others quickly—however I have a dominating nature (those who are close to me know this well).  These songs I wrote for my private sadhana and to express my experience in words. But I know that mere words cannot communicate my thoughts.  For example in several songs I repeated my wretched and sinful life. It does not mean that I continue to live that kind of life.  They express the lack of perfection for which I am longing.  At the same time I never destroyed my songs after I have written but carefully recorded them even giving the date and time of them. The reason is that once my life belongs to the Lord, anything that I write relating to my experience is not my private property but belongs to His wider mandali—whether others recognize it or not.  If bhakti is personal but not private the same is with all the gifts of God to me.

 165. I came seeking your feet.

I came seeking your feet

Oh charitable one seeking your mercy I came.

Where else can go leaving your grace

Tell me a way for this bhakta too

Did I ever ask you to redeem me?

Did I even ask to die for me?

You alone have done them for some reason

Therefore give me the answer to this question also?

Where will the baby go if the mother rejects?

If the father denies what will happen to it?

If relatives hate, it will get perished

But what is your answer to me?

Creeper needs a support to grow

Bird needs a nest to stay

Eyes needs some scenery to see

The bhakta of your also needs redemption

The bird in the ship however search for another place

Wandering everywhere by flying

It has to come back to the ship

Like that I too come to you again

Is there any other refuge other than the divine feet?

Oh God, is there anyone who will protect me like you?

Is there any other means to attain mukti?

Is there any other God like Muktesan?

You are my mother and I am your child

You are my father and I am your son

You are my relative and I belong to you

You are my guru and I am your shishya

Therefore there is not separation between us

There is no other slave like me for you

There is no other Master like you for me

Therefore I come again at your divine feet

Who can know this relationship?

However I tell how others can understand this

It is a wasteful effort to tell it through words

I realized this in my heart.

27-06-2013 7.00 am Gurukulam

Any bird that stayed on the ship when it sailed from the harbour cannot find any other resting place when the ship reaches the middle of the ocean.  In the modern time such phenomenon many not be common or could never be happened.  But several centuries before Kulasekara Azhavar in one of his poems says:

Like a bird which cannot find the shore will return back to the ship, I too become like that.1

Though I am responsible for so many things that I do in my life, yet as I become His bhakta, the Lord owes an answer to several questions in my life.  Whether I receive them or not I can express this right to Him.  My questions, ‘did I ask you to redeem me or die for me’ is more venting out my anger than questioning what He has done for me. Bhakti gives that kind of right to challenge the Lord in every way.  Because though there are many other bhaktas to Him yet I am unique to Him and in the same way He is my unique Master.  So in that unique relationship there is place for such nagging. This we call in Tamil ‘sinungudal’ (சிணுங்குதல் whining)
