BT Song 1616
From the morning, memories of my mother often came to my mind. Though I tried my best to divert them, I couldn’t. The more I tried, the stronger they became. I know the reason for this, but I’m unsure if she also longs for me. I don’t know. But I often feel there is no purpose for me to live further. I remain a burden to the earth and a waste of resources. As God never experienced the affection of a mother, He cannot understand my longing. Unable to control myself, I began to weep, and it continued for several hours. What else can I do? That is the only option left to me.
BT Song 1616 Therefore, I Weep
Simple English Translation
My heart is heavy
Thinking of you
Tears are flowing
Blurring my vision 1
You have gone
To the life of this world
But for me
Loneliness has come 2
I don’t like to stay
What can I do?
I cannot leave
What can anyone do? 3
The Creator
Has no mercy
And you too
Have no memory of me 4
Are you, like me,
Withering away?
Are you seeking me
And yearning? 5
There is no news
Regarding this
And no way
To know about it 6
One more time
You should come
Or I should come
To you 7
But for both to happen
There’s no chance
And saying this
Is also pointless 8
Death is a one-way path
Those who’ve gone won’t return
Understanding this
Is essential 9
I must come
In search of you
The time for that
Must come soon 10
If asked instantly
Without delay
There’s no God
To grant like a mother 11
Even He doesn’t know
A mother’s love
He can’t become
A mother 12
He sets
One will
As a law
And controls us 13
Even asking Him
Is useless
Therefore, I weep
There’s no other way 14
Gurukulam 6-6-24, 6.45 am
BT Song 1616Hence, I Lament
Classical English Translation
My heart grows heavy
As I think of thee
Tears well up
And cloud my sight 1
Thou hast departed
To the life of this earth
But for me
Loneliness has arrived 2
I find no joy in staying
What shall I do?
I cannot leave
What can anyone do? 3
The Creator
Shows no mercy
And thou too
Hast forgotten me 4
Dost thou, like me,
Wither away?
Dost thou seek me
And yearn? 5
No tidings come
Regarding this
Nor is there any way
To know of it 6
Once more
Thou shouldst come
Or I should come
To thee 7
Yet for both to be
There’s no chance
And to speak of this
Is also in vain 8
Death is a one-way road
Those who’ve gone return not
Understanding this
Is essential 9
I must seek thee out
And come to thee
The time for that
Must come soon 10
If asked in haste
Without delay
There’s no God
Who grants as a mother does 11
Even He knows not
A mother’s love
Nor can He become
A mother 12
He sets His will
As law eternal
And binds us fast 13
To plead with Him
Is in vain
Hence, I lament
There’s no other way 14

BT Song 1617
Bhakti helps one to live ‘one day at a time,’ not postponing our relationship with Him by giving various excuses. Other kinds of sadhanas—like reading, praying, and reflections—can wait. But there is no such waiting for bhakti. It is a constant communication, always living in the presence of God. Postponing bhakti, as if it is just another kind of sadhana, is not good and will never help us to live one day at a time in the Lord.
BT Song 1617 Do It Today
Simple English Translation
Before you collapse
And lie down
Before your vision fades
And disappears 1
Before your tongue falters
And mumbles
Before your hearing
Fades away 2
Seek the Lord’s feet
And surrender
Search and worship
And bow down to Him 3
Thinking you’ll do it tomorrow
And postponing it
There are tasks
That get delayed 4
Only devotion
Do it today
And secure
The path to salvation 5
If you are not here
Tomorrow
The tasks you left
Will carry on without you 6
There are people
To carry them out
And ways to
Complete them 7
“Tomorrow, tomorrow
Don’t think
Don’t waste
days like this” 8
This is a
Famous song
Don’t you
Forget it 9
So, while you
Are well
And still in
This world today 10
Seek the Lord’s feet
And surrender
Trust in Him
And hold on to Him 11

BT Song 1617 Do It Today
Classical English Translation
Before thou falterest
And lie down
Before thy vision dims
And fades away 1
Before thy tongue stumbles
And stammers
Before thy hearing
Vanishes 2
Seek the Lord’s feet
And surrender thyself
Search and worship Him
And bow before Him 3
Thinking “I’ll do it tomorrow”
And postponing
There are deeds
That get delayed 4
Devotion alone
Do it today
And secure thy path
To salvation 5
If thou art not here
On the morrow
The deeds thou left
Shall proceed on their own 6
There are men
To carry them out
And means to
Complete them 7
“Tomorrow, tomorrow
Think not
Waste not
This day” 8
Thus goes a
Famous song
Forget it not
Thou, too 9
So, while thou art
Well and hale
And still in
This world today 10
Seek the Lord’s feet
And surrender thyself
Trust in Him
And cleave unto Him 11

BT Song 1618
Another song in Viraha Bhakti, now blaming the Lord that He has lost His first love for me. He might have many responsibilities with others, but my contention is not with them—rather, it’s about the way He delays when I call Him to have that intimate fellowship. He is always with me, but if I feel that I miss His presence, then it is His mistake and not mine. This is how Viraha Bhakti blames the other partner in love.

BT Song 1618 I Will Rebuke
Simple English Translation
You have completely
Changed and left
You’re not the same
You’ve deceived me 1
You came on your own
And confessed your love
My heart melted
And I accepted it 2
Where is the love
You had in the beginning?
You’ve changed entirely
Where is your answer? 3
When I called, you
Ran to me instantly
Without waiting
You grabbed my hand 4
But now
What happened to that?
Talking about it now
Is pointless 5
From now on, don’t
Ask me anything
Do whatever you want
But don’t come to me 6
Did someone else
Hold you back?
Did they keep you close
And not let you come? 7
There’s no way
For that to happen
And about that
I’m not concerned 8
Though you were
My leader
I haven’t denied
That He is God to others too 9
I have no issue
With Him
So I won’t
Let go of you 10
The love you showed
When you claimed me
I don’t see it now
That’s my worry 11
First, tell me
Why you forgot
If your reason is right
I will accept it, see 12
Until then, talk of
Compromise
Has no place
Here with me 13
Sending messengers
Is useless
I’ll send scolding instead
There’s no other way for me 14

BT Song 1618 I Shall Rebuke
Classical English Translation
Thou hast completely
Changed and departed
Thou art not the same
Thou hast deceived me 1
Thou camest of thine own
And confessed thy love
My heart softened
And I accepted it 2
Where is the love
Thou hadst at first?
Thou hast changed utterly
Where is thy response? 3
When I called, thou
Rushed to me at once
Without waiting
Thou held my hand 4
But now
What has become of it?
To speak of it now
Is but vain talk 5
Henceforth, ask me not
For anything more
Do what thou wilt
But come not to me 6
Did someone else
Restrain thee?
Did they hold thee close
And not let thee come? 7
There is no way
For that to be
And of that
I care not 8
Though thou wast
My leader
I have not denied
That He is God to others too 9
I have no quarrel
With Him
Thus I will not
Let go of thee 10
The love thou showed
When thou claimed me
I see it not now
That is my concern 11
First, tell me
Why thou forgot
If thy reason is just
I shall accept it, see 12
Till then, talk of
Compromise
Hath no place
Here with me 13
Sending messengers
Is in vain
I shall send rebuke instead
For I have no other way 14

BT Song 1619
Tonight, after listening to the news around the world, I was wondering what God is actually doing. So many conflicts, so much suffering, especially for women and children. Saying that this happened in the past but now the media highlights and brings them to our attention doesn’t help. Conflicts and suffering have existed since time immemorial, but the scale we face now is unprecedented. When I began to talk about this with the Lord, it ended, as usual, in argument, blame, and playing the victim card. But we still have the option to go and trouble Him continuously—either through prayer or by arguing like this with Him.
1619 I Need an Answer
Simple English Translation
Tell me one thing
Give me your answer
Or listen to
What I have to say 1
If you refuse
To do both
To whom shall I
Turn for answers? 2
If all three
Gods were separate
We could ask one
To replace the other 3
But when three are one
And one is three
What can we
Possibly do? 4
For three to form
A coalition like this
Is not at all
Fair or right 5
If you’ve been thinking
You’d tell someone else
Or someone else
Would handle this 6
First, change that
Thought of yours
I’m speaking to you
Listen to me 7
Don’t step back
And leave it to
Someone else
To handle this 8
Don’t think
“Let things happen
As they may”
And just walk away 9
This is happening here
In your domain
First, don’t forget
About that 10
There’s no one
To speak for us
When everyone’s state
Is just the same 11
No one has said
They’ve done everything
That we asked for
Up until now 12
What’s happening
In the other world
We have no
News of that 13
Our situation here
Is worsening
And we don’t even have time
To think about it 14
If, like the famous gods
You had a wife
To whom we could
Go and speak 15
Even that option
Isn’t available here
There’s no way
For that either 16
Let’s leave that aside
If I say I too
Am not married
Like you 17
Even that does not
Sway your mind
And that’s what
Worries me now 18
Whatever it is
You plan to do
Just tell me that
Once and for all 19
Otherwise, I’ll come
Back again and again
And bother you
Think about it 20

1619 I Require an Answer
Classical English Translation
Pray, give me one thing
Thine answer, tell me
Or hearken unto
What I must say 1
If thou refusest
To do either
To whom shall I
Turn for counsel? 2
If three gods
Were separate beings
We could seek one
In place of another 3
But when three are one
And one is three
What action can
We take in such? 4
For three to form
Such an alliance
Is neither fair
Nor right at all 5
If thou hast thought
To tell another
Or leave it unto
Someone else’s hand 6
First, cast aside
Such thoughts of thine
I speak to thee
Now hear me well 7
Do not retreat
And let this fall
To others’ hands
To carry out 8
Think not to let
Events unfold
And simply walk
Away from it 9
This matter lies
In thine own realm
First, do not forget
This truth, I say 10
There is no one
To speak for us
When every state
Is just the same 11
No one hath said
They have fulfilled
All that we asked
Unto this day 12
What transpires
In other worlds
We have no
News or sign 13
Our own state here
Grows ever worse
And we have not time
To ponder it 14
If, like those famed
And lofty gods
Thou too hadst a wife
To whom we could go 15
Even that path
Is not here open
There is no way
For that to be 16
But leave that aside
If I were to say
That I too remain
Unwed like thee 17
Even that thought
Moves not thy mind
And that is what
Troubles me now 18
Whatever thou think’st
To do, declare
At least that much
Just once to me

BT Song 1620
The concept of “sin needs to be punished, but the sinner must be saved” is a wonderful thought. I think this could be an alternative to the karma theory, where one must reap the consequences of their own choices or karma by doing prayashchittta by oneself. While Muktiveda does not deny that we also need to face the consequences of our choices, God accepting our punishment—thereby punishing sin—yet helping us go through the consequences is a bit different from the karma theory. Though both Muktiveda and Hinduism contain the concept of karma, the psychological effect is slightly different. As Prof. Kapoor pointed out, [https://youtu.be/fUuVFSrrwC4?si=4WNxbyAQpujP8p0h] bhakti was invented to counter the karma theory by seeking the grace of God, but according to Muktiveda, that process was INITIATED by God.
Though the famous saying goes that God not only forgives your sin but also forgets and puts up a signboard that says, ‘No more fishing,’ it still shows what He has done, without denying our part in facing the results. Anyhow, at the end of the day, no one can escape from consequences, but in Muktiveda, the Lord accompanies you through them. In Hinduism, though grace is available to a bhakta to overcome the effects of karma, she still has to face it on her own. According to Muktiveda, apart from the presence of the Lord, the fellowship of other bhaktas and the membership in a mandali are additional sources of support for a bhakta to endure suffering or the consequences of one’s karma. Though family and community offer moral and physical support, in the Hindu worldview, there is no substitution for one’s own karma. At the same time ‘transferring one’s own karma to someone else is also there in Hinduism, through proper ritual.
This is a big theological subject, and a layperson like me cannot go beyond this, as it is the domain of theologians. But I can express my thoughts through my poem.
BT Song 1620 Forgiveness and Punishment
Simple English Translation
Whatever mistake
I make in life
You’re always there
To correct it for me 1
When this thought
Is in my mind
Why should I worry
About counting mistakes? 2
If made in error
It’s called a mistake
If done knowingly
It’s called a sin 3
Even if others
Give explanations
In your eyes, Lord
Both are the same 4
Punishment for sins
Forgiveness for mistakes
There’s no such distinction
In your presence 5
Punished and forgiven
Forgiven and punished
Neither happens
Without your will 6
What you’ll do first
We can never know
It’s always uncertain
To us, O Lord 7
So when both happen
We see them as arms
We think of your grace
Which follows them both 8
Forgiving much
And punishing less
If you stay as usual
That’s enough for us 9
Daily we plead
In front of you, Lord
For taking our punishment
Upon yourself 10
And remembering
Your boundless grace
I too have come
Seeking your holy feet 11

BT Song 1620 Forgiveness and Retribution
Classical English Translation
Whatever transgressions
I may commit
Thou art ever present
To amend them for me 1
When such a thought
Resides within me
Why should I be burdened
By tallying my errors? 2
If done in ignorance
It is called a fault
If done in awareness
It becomes a sin 3
Even if explanations
Are provided by many
In thy sight, O Lord
Both are but one 4
Punishment for sin
Forgiveness for fault
Such distinctions
Are not thine 5
To punish and forgive
And forgive and punish
Without doing both
Thou dost not leave it so 6
What thou wouldst do first
Is beyond our knowing
Certainty is not ours
In thine own way 7
When both occur
They are seen as arms
We remember thy grace
Which follows them both 8
Forgiving in abundance
And punishing with restraint
If thou remainst as ever
It sufficeth us well 9
Daily we plead
Before thee, Lord
That thou didst take our punishment
Upon thyself 10
And in remembrance
Of thy boundless grace
I too have come
To seek thy holy feet 11
