BT Songs 166 to 170

166 My Siddhant (end of truth=doctrine)

Because of your kindness you saved us*

You took me in your heart

Because of your compassion you took the form of human

You gave yourself for the people of this world to be saved!

I lost my life because of the delusion of my heart

I collapsed because of the confusion in my intellect

Because of disturbance I lost my path

and because of your grace I am emancipated

Through bhakti I understood you

I with stood because of the fellowship of the bhaktas

I realized the glory of mukti

Oh Muktesa I worship you now!

Mukti Veda is our companion

The fellowship of bhaktas (mandali) is our strength

Our pant (marg) is mukti marg

Bhakti is our only siddhant (doctrine)

We proclaim this as we know it

Therefore, who do not know, can understand it

Those who understood this come to the feet of the Holy One

To worship together the feet of the Holy One.

30-06-2013 6.30 am. Gurukulam

Can bhakti be a doctrine or a marg (path) to know the Lord?  For me as bhakti is all inclusive it is difficult to mark it as a single category for mukti and spirituality.  First and foremost, it is RELATIONSHIP. But that relationship is not possible without having an understanding both about us (our need) and who God is and what He has done to bestow mukti to us.  Then this becomes jnana and bhakti could be both a means and a result of jnana.  But this jnana will remain an abstract theory without having an ongoing relationship with the Lord and have fellowship with other bhaktas and be anchored in the Word of God.  For a pure jnana as an exclusive marga there is no need for bhakti.  The same is the case with karma.  But bhakti needs both of them but not merely a means for the end of jnana or karma but to make them complete.

167.  Who can know this?

I am saved because of you

I know the relationship which the world cannot understand

Now everything become you

I abolished my ‘ego’.

Good is our relationship

The one which is very ancient.

In the middle I lost it

But I received it back because of you.

Who will know this if I tell it?

Who will understand this through words

None can understand it

The world cannot understand.

We two only know that

We understood it because of our relationship

Some will say that as ‘bhakti’

Others will call it ‘bliss’.

Bhakti-mukti is

Mere words according to me

It is a condition/status beyond language and thought

The position which I have with Muktesan

Yet I will tell about it

I will record it as much as I understood

Those who understand this will be benefited

And will approach the feet of the Holy One.

01-07-2013, 8.30 am.  Gurukulam

For me mukti is a regained lost relationship.  So it is, as advaita says, something to be realized but not a new thing to be received/achieved.  It is a status, it is a relationship, it is a position which I lost and regained because of the Lord. Of course our Lord paid the price.  But can I say that He gave it to me?  It is like the prodigal son returning back to his own home.  That home is not given to him but he was born there and it is his inheritance.  Unlike the father in that story waiting with much pain, the Lord went out to seek the lost son to bring him back to his home.

I know this is not that much easy to explain through any theological or human category?  Where words fail then the truth dawns in the spirit.  Words can help us to rationalize the inner experience but can never communicate its spirit.

168  You are the hope

I will sing the early morning song

I will hail you in my heart

I will meditate the Veda

I will abide by the True marga.

In this contradicting world

When the three lusts deluding the heart

I will run seeking after the path of mukti (deliverance)

I will seek the feet of Muktesan

What kinds of thoughts when I get up

How many struggles are in life

After realizing that everything is a deceit

I sought your feet

The heart changes every moment

It changes me everyday

Nothing stands permanently

But your love never changed

Therefore, I came unto your feet

I found that you are my support

I won’t search any other thing other than you

Your feet also are my only hope.

04-07-2013 8.30. am. Gurukulam

The Lord well said that ‘each day’s trouble is enough for that day’.  Though life moves as a routine, yet the challenge that it brings is new for that day.  There is no point of facing that challenge in the same manner as we have done in the past.  When we are prepared to face old solutions based on our experience, a new twist adds more complication to the challenge.  And others who do not seek the grace of God have to resort to other means.  But for me the feet of the Lord are the only hope.  Long before I wrote about the new challenges that human beings are facing in everyday life.  In the following two songs [see Secular Songs 6 and 17] in the first one I say that the brain/mind is given only to draw a balance sheet of everyday struggle?  In the next song I said that human endeavour in every day’s life is to get something to satisfy his physical need like a deer chasing the mirage, as she does not know the secret that ‘content is wealth’.  I wrote several such songs which I will share later.

169  I need grace

In this day I need only your grace

My thinking should be only about you

There should be truth in my words and deeds

I should realize that I belong to you

I should have good relationship with bhaktas

I should have mind to stand on the path of mukti

I should have heart to have bhakti

I should have intellect to know Muktiveda

I should sing new song everyday

I should praise you the Holy One

Your fame alone should increase

I should live as your servant.

7-7-2013. 8.30 am. Gurukulam.

One marked difference in our bhakti in the Lord is not only I think about our life on that day but also about others.  I don’t know about others’ experiences, but at least for me, I will remember someone one or something related with the issues of other bhaktas in our mandali.  Before I know the Lord, I hardly remember others with whom I have no immediate relationship or interaction.  Even those who I remember or interact with are only keeping my interest and need rather than their interest and need.  But as a bhakta of the Lord I experience that while I have to carry my own burden I should carry other’s burden as well through remembering them in my prayers for them.  At least one time in a day I will pray for someone other than me for their needs.

170.  You are my base/foundation

I will bow unto you through my heart and words

Oh King I will bow at your feet

Through deeds I will know more about your glory

I will sing your fame having a noble mind

Can I understand you by my intellect?

Without perishing the ‘ego’ can I approach you

Other than through relationship will I worship you

Even if the world blames me will I forget you?

Thousands of questions are there in my heart

Though you become the answer to me

Which one will I understand as the answer?

Lord, can I understand anything other than you?

Yet there are thousands of troubles in my thought

There is struggle without having any reason

Yet I took courage to come to your feet

And realized that you are my foundation.

10-07-13, 11.15 p.m. Gurukulam.

The answer that I receive for any struggle in life always leads to further questions than brings satisfaction with it. This is true not only related to mundane issues but also to my bhakti and mukti. I like one response from Thomas Kempis book: Imitation of Christ. One time a monk went and fell at the feet of the Lord by asking the question, ‘Lord I am not sure that I am saved and will be with you’?  In response the Lord said to him, ‘what will you do if you know for sure, then do it now’.

So when the answer creates more questions with further uncertainty, try to live as per the present answer as the solution is the only best option life with me in the Lord.

This is a wonderful book and I take this opportunity to recommend this book for anyone who read this posting to read it if you haven’t read it.

I like Sevanand’s this one exhortation: I do one thing, forgetting the past I press forward for the call to which I am called in the Lord.

Yesterday’s sacrifice becomes today’s ash. There is no point in bragging about the cost of that sacrifice or regret about the loss.  But removing the ash I have to offer myself as a new sacrifice on the altar every day.  In this sense Romans 12:1-2 is my manual for spirituality.
