BT Song 1666
After listening to an intriguing talk about the soul by a Jewish scholar, I wrote this song. If I understood correctly, both thinking and emotion are essential to comprehend and unite with the Superconscious. Poetry, I believe, is one expression of that emotion. I appreciate this perspective because it embraces a fundamental human trait: emotion.
There is often a belief that a rational thinker cannot be emotional, but I feel that without emotion, one cannot even think. The Tamil word Vettaveli does not mean emptiness; rather, it refers to something beyond human comprehension, which we might call the Superconscious. As a Bhakta (devotee), merging with the Superconscious means dwelling in the presence of God, who resides within us.
BT Song 1666 – I Wrote It Down
‘If you write something
That does not exist,
And later try to understand
What it means, 1
Only confusion
Will remain within you.
Understand this truth
First of all.’ 2
After you said this,
I tried to stop
And avoid writing
Anything anymore. 3
Yet after thinking
For a little while,
A question arose
Within me again. 4
I tried writing
About you yourself,
And then tried to
Understand it later. 5
Is this a mistake?
Tell me, I ask.
Did you vanish?
At least tell me that. 6
‘I will not exist
Until you seek me.
Even when present,
I will stay hidden. 7
If, without understanding,
You try to write,
How will you grasp
What it truly means?’ 8
After you said this,
I thought about it too,
And reflected deeply
On your words. 9
Then I tried writing
The same thing again,
And then understood
Your spoken truth. 10
From now on,
I’ll write without writing,
And often think
Of you within. 11
The words you give
After this moment,
Only those
Will I write down. 12

BT Song 1666 – I Set It Down
Translation in Classical English:
‘Should one inscribe
What doth not exist,
Then strive thereafter
Its meaning to discern, 1
Confusion alone
Shall linger within.
This truth, thou too
Must comprehend first.’ 2
Upon thy word,
I strove to cease,
To pen no more,
And let my quill rest. 3
Yet pondering deeply
A moment more,
A question arose
Within my soul. 4
Thee, I sought
To set in verse,
And then endeavored
Thy essence to grasp. 5
Is this transgression?
Pray, declare it so.
Hast thou vanished?
At least, speak thus. 6
‘I shall abide not
Till thou dost seek.
Even in presence,
I shall veil myself. 7
Without understanding,
To write is vain.
How then shalt thou
Its meaning find?’ 8
Thus thou didst speak,
And I reflected.
Thy counsel I weighed
With utmost care. 9
Thereafter I penned
What once I sought,
And then beheld
Thy spoken truth. 10
Henceforth, I vow
To write unpenned,
And oft recall
Thy form within. 11
The words thou giv’st,
From this time on,
Those alone
Shall I record. 12

BT Song 1667
Last night, I listened to an engaging discussion with Prof. Pierre Grimes about the influence of Greek philosophy. As I reflected on this discussion, numerous questions arose in my mind. During my evening walk, as is my habit, I continued meditating on the subject. Inspired, I recorded this song on my mobile. Later, on December 21, I wrote an article based on my reflections. You can read it here: https://dayanandbharati.in/paulian.
BT Song 1667 – I Felt It Within
Translation in Simple English:
I knew you,
I found freedom,
After that,
I understood myself too. 1
This life
And this body—
Why were they given?
I understood later. 2
Before creation,
Something existed.
After birth,
Where did it go? 3
Searching for it,
Wandering around,
Tired and worn,
I stood still. 4
‘Seeking the one
Within you,
You became weary
From wandering, 5
Once you knew me,
You realized
This truth
Clearly,’ it said. 6
As those words
Gently echoed,
Within myself,
I found you. 7
That voice
Merged with my feelings,
And this song
I wrote down. 8
Formless and with form,
Neither exists—
An endless vastness
You remain. 9
When merged
Into you,
Losing myself,
I became one with you. 10

BT Song 1667 – I Perceived Within
Translation in Classical English:
Thee I knew,
And freedom I gained.
Thereafter myself
I too discerned. 1
This fleeting life,
This mortal frame—
Why were they given?
This I then knew. 2
Ere creation began,
Something endured.
Yet after birth,
Where did it stray? 3
In pursuit thereof,
I wandered afar,
Weary and faint,
I paused in despair. 4
‘In seeking that
Which dwells within,
Thou hast wearied
Thyself through wandering, 5
Once thou knew’st me,
This truth became clear—
Thy understanding
Did grasp it fully,’ it spoke. 6
Those tender words
Softly resounded;
Within myself,
I found thy presence. 7
That voice so pure
Did stir my soul,
And thus this hymn
I set to verse. 8
Neither form nor formlessness
Dost thou possess—
A boundless void,
Ever thou art. 9
When into thee
I did unite,
Losing myself,
I merged with thee. 10

BT Song 1668
This song is another reflection inspired by the discussion I heard about Greek philosophy, emotion, reason, poetry, and the understanding of God.
My simple response to the question, “How can I understand God?” is: I cannot. A deeper question arises: Why should I understand God, and what is the need for it? Before attempting to understand God, one must first address this question. For me, the answer begins within myself.
In other words, the best way to understand God is to start with oneself rather than starting with God.
BT Song 1668 – This Is Our State
Translation in Simple English
You are not tired,
I am not weary—
How long will this
Struggle continue? 1
If it is “you or me,”
And we keep clashing,
Both of us will fail—
You must understand this. 2
If we win,
It must be together.
If we lose,
It must be together too. 3
Regarding this,
We must discuss further—
This is the rule
Of true equality. 4
Is it there or not?
Should we accept or deny?
This question itself
Is not new. 5
The answer to this
Has never been found—
History shows
No one has succeeded. 6
How to understand you?
What shall I use?
And how can I
Express it clearly? 7
In this pursuit,
When I started,
How many philosophies
Came before me? 8
Yet, all philosophies
Failed to answer.
Beyond the sacred texts,
I searched further. 9
How to know you,
The one within me?
This remains
My ultimate question. 10
I search for answers
From you directly,
But still,
No reply has come. 11
So we continue,
Without giving up,
Struggling to understand—
Yet nothing is clear. 12
Beyond the mind,
Beyond reason and words,
Even the silent answer
You gave, I don’t grasp. 13
Still, both of us
Persist tirelessly—
This continuing effort
Is our state now. 14

BT Song 1668 – Such Is Our State
Translation in Classical English
Thou art untiring,
And I unwearied—
How long shall this
Conflict endure? 1
If “thee or me”
Be our contention,
Both shall suffer defeat—
This thou must comprehend. 2
If victory be ours,
It must be together.
If failure be ours,
Together it must be. 3
Upon this matter,
We must further converse—
This is the rule
Of rightful equality. 4
Is it present or absent?
Should it be embraced or denied?
Such a query
Is no novelty. 5
The answer thereto
None hath found—
History records
No such success. 6
By what means
May I know thee?
And how shall
It be declared? 7
In this endeavor,
As I embarked,
How many doctrines
Stood before me? 8
Yet all doctrines
Failed utterly—
Beyond the scriptures,
I pressed my quest. 9
To perceive thee,
Thou dwelling within,
How may I?
This is my inquiry. 10
From thee, I sought
The answer itself,
Yet even now,
No response comes. 11
Thus do we persist,
Unwearied, unyielding—
Striving to understand,
Yet clarity eludes us. 12
Beyond thought,
Beyond reason’s tongue,
Even the silent reply
Thou gavest, I comprehend not. 13
Yet, we both
Continue untiring—
This striving onward
Defines our state. 14

BT Song 1669
Upon hearing the news of Mrs. Hoefer’s passing, I dedicated this song as a message to honor elderly couples like her and her husband, who lived a beautiful life together. It is written with the hope that their shared life will continue on the Further Shore.
BT Song 1669 Temporary separation
In Eternal Life
With hope abiding,
Clinging firmly to Him,
Secure in our faith.
Bound in unbroken love,
We lived together,
And with the same love,
Shall live forevermore.
This separation too,
Is not eternal—
Let this thought
Stay in our hearts.
Grasping the FEET
Of the Unchanging One,
Let us live clinging
With steadfast love.

BT Song 1670
At times, I feel complete in the Lord, as though I have attained my mukti (liberation) while still living in this body, despite life’s challenges. I prefer such a life on earth because I can enjoy my mukti fully amidst challenges, rather than on the Further Shore, where there might be no challenges but only bliss.
Yet, I often feel that something is missing—that I am not entirely complete. While I may seem full in my own view, I still fall short when measured by His standards. As I pondered this thought, I wrote this song.
BT Song 1670 – Fulfilled Life
Translation in Simple English
Whatever may be
In my view,
In your eyes,
Let it become worthy. 1
Without knowing this,
I am not here,
Yet I am unable
To bring about change. 2
Though I have everything,
I feel I have nothing,
Thinking I exist
With an empty heart. 3
Believing this life
To be enough,
I keep living,
Lost in such thoughts. 4
If today my
Life were to end,
All that seems real
Would fade away. 5
Empty and bare,
I would stand before you,
With nothing but sorrow
Filling that moment. 6
Before that time
Ever arrives,
May you come
And fill me now. 7
Let this state
Of emptiness change,
Overflowing forever
With unending fullness. 8
That state of life,
I desire today,
This present state
Must transform now. 9
To make this happen,
Your vision is needed,
That vision must
Completely renew me. 10
Let that gaze
Transform me entirely,
With your vision,
Look into my soul. 11
To be filled in you
And live fulfilled,
Today, tomorrow,
And forevermore. 12

BT Song 1670 – A Life of Fullness
Translation in Classical English
Whatever may be
In mine own sight,
In thine own gaze,
Let it be made right. 1
Without this knowledge,
I cannot remain;
Yet within myself,
No change can I attain. 2
Though all is mine,
I feel I lack;
Dwelling in emptiness,
I hold nothing back. 3
Thinking this life
Alone suffices,
Thus I wander,
Lost in devices. 4
If this very day
My breath departs,
All things held dear
Would vanish, apart. 5
Bare and empty,
Before thee I stand,
Filled with grief,
Reaching thy hand. 6
Before that hour
Arriveth near,
Fill me, Lord,
And draw me near. 7
This void within,
Let it be no more;
Overflowing fullness,
Forever outpour. 8
That state of grace,
I long for this day;
Let present despair
Be banished away. 9
To reach this end,
Thine eyes I need,
Thy sacred vision
Must renew my deed. 10
With that vision,
Transform my soul,
And fill my being,
To make me whole. 11
In thee fulfilled,
May I dwell alway,
Today, tomorrow,
And endless day. 12

BT Song 1666 –
