BT Song 1731
Yesterday evening, I arrived at Jukkal, Telangana, in Kanta’s party office, and stayed there. This morning, after my walking exercise, I returned to my room, took a bath, and sat quietly and calmly for my worship and meditation.
As a party officer outside the city, surrounded by cotton fields, I opened the window to feel the cool air and see the beautiful scene unfolding before me. It was a moment of serenity and reflection.
I began by chanting a few Sanskrit mantras and singing one or two of my own poems. Then I sat down to meditate quietly. But, as usual, my mind started to drift away, instead of concentrating on my prayer, meditation, or worship.
Then, as inspiration came, I wrote this song to capture the meditation, thoughts, and worship of that morning. This is the background and context of the song “True Worship.”
BT Song 1731 True Worship
Stanza 1
I close my eyes,
Fold my hands,
Bowing my head,
And come before You.
Stanza 2
Not meditating
Meaningfully within me,
Then what is this show
That I put outwardly?
Stanza 3
The mind seeks You,
But after reaching You,
Slowly, again,
It slips away.
Stanza 4
The thought
That I must seek only You
Did not exist
Within me at all.
Stanza 5
Dwelling within me,
When You completely intertwined with me,
There is no need
For me to come and seek You.
Stanza 6
Yet, in the name of worship,
Why should I enact this drama
Just for vainglory,
Or merely for pretense?
Stanza 7
The show performed
For the sake of others
Cannot endure
Even for a moment.
Stanza 8
As the inner eye opened,
As I have seen You there,
The outward show
Has thus vanished.
Stanza 9
After that, O my Lord,
Whatever I do regularly
Becomes my eternal worship,
My permanent devotion.
Stanza 10
So today,
The task You have given me,
To perform it faithfully
Is today’s true worship.

BT Song 1732
Another song lamenting about the uncontrollable mind.
BT Song 1732 No alternative for you
1.
It comes not near to You,
It turns its face away;
Yet runs across the world,
Wandering day by day.
2.
Whatever I speak to it,
It refuses still to hear;
How shall I describe the grief
It draws so ever near?
3.
This mind has a will of its own—
A will I cannot read;
Your will and mine, I see,
Are never one indeed.
4.
Who drew this boundary
Between Your will and mine?
Where shall I find the answer
To this mystery, deep, divine?
5.
You said Your will and mine
Never become the same;
Then tell me—whose will rules me?
Whose voice calls out my name?
6.
To act as You would act,
To feel as my heart feels—
Behold my state caught midway
Between two turning wheels.
7.
I fought with You and left
Exhausted from that strife;
Now battling with my mind,
I wither at the edge of life.
8.
I know there is no path
To solve this inner ache;
So every single day
I weep, lament, and break.
9.
This lament of mine
Has become my song of praise;
And You must listen to it—
There is no other music these days.
10.
One day, change my heart—
Show me a gentler way;
Or else, in silent grace,
Just hear my cries each day.

BT Song 1733
…When [Samaritan] her deepest thirst was quenched, a thirst she had never even recognized before Jesus named it, all other thirsts took their rightful place.—Philip Yancey, ‘Not Naked Enough’, pp. 13-16, in Finding God in Unexpected Places, Authentic Books, Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, [1997] Reprint 2008, p. 16,
BT Song 1733 True relationship
1.
When the inner feeling
Finds no room to stay,
Mere emotions rise
And rule our hearts each day.
2.
If my bond with You
Begins to fade away,
Truth within relationships
Also slips astray.
3.
In a world without Your bond
Life loses breath and light;
A life without You near
Becomes an empty night.
4.
When fleeting ties increase
And seize the heart by force,
Only You can come
And set my life on course.
5.
Though many ties remain—
Some right, some flawed, some few—
The one true bond I seek
Is only found in You.
6.
Even when You come
To offer me that tie,
If I reject Your love—
What then becomes of life?
7.
Still, Lord, gently see
My heart that cannot yield;
Look with tender mercy
On the ground where I lie sealed.
8.
Once more, come to me—
Seek me as before;
Become the lasting bond
That holds my life secure.
9.
In that sacred feeling,
Every bond I know
Shines as a true relationship
In Your eternal glow.

BT Song 1734
In Memory of Chakaravarthy’s Mother
As I received the sad news of the peaceful passing of Chakaravarthy’s mother, though I was aware of her frail condition, her departure still moved me deeply. The death of every mother—any mother—is a lasting loss, not only to her children but to all who knew her. A mother’s bond is beyond definition; it can only be felt, never fully expressed.
Though she is no longer with us, I fondly remember her gentle smile, gracious hospitality, noble manners, and soft-spoken nature.
Whenever a mother passes away, I often ask: What is the one thing you would always remember her for, and what is the one thing you have learned from her life? Each person may answer differently, yet there is one truth that unites all responses—when asked what we remember her for, the simplest and most profound answer remains: She was my mother. Everything else is secondary.
May God comfort Chakaravarthy and his family. Though he was prepared for this moment, I know from personal experience that the void left by a mother’s absence can never be filled—except by the grace and presence of God, both in this time of mourning and in the days ahead.
I thank God for her noble and selfless spirit. She had a beautiful habit of stitching new clothes for her grandchildren every Christmas instead of buying them from the shop—a simple act that reflected her love, care, and humility. What a precious legacy such mothers have left us, one that future generations may seldom witness.
EVERY WOMAN, ULTIMATELY, IS A MOTHER
Chakaravarthy’s mother was also interested in cross-stitch work, and she shared a few patterns with me, knowing my fondness for it. When I wanted to make one for her, she chose the design herself, and I personalized it by adding her name. Interestingly, no one in the family now knows where she kept it—they have not been able to trace it. Unlike the modern generation, she remained creative in many ways. Whenever Chakaravarthy visited, she would lovingly prepare idiappam (a kind of steamed rice noodle) along with his favorite dish. Truly, as an ancient Tamil song says: With the mother, the food is gone [தாயோடு அறுசுவை போம்]—for no other food ever tastes as good as what a mother lovingly makes for her children.

BT Song 1734 Enduring Bond
Life has faded—
When she was gone,
What remained of love
Lay buried with her in the earth.
Though kin may stay,
And circles surround,
When mother departs,
No bond can be found.
What secret lies
In love’s embrace?
How can mere words
Its depth retrace?
When God Himself
Becomes our mother,
To lose that nearness—
There’s no wound deeper.
Yet though her body
Returns to clay,
This bond of soul
Will never decay.
For in every woman
Who lives with grace,
Our mother’s spirit
Shines through her face.

BT Song 1735
As I felt some kind of depression, which I never call as depression but some kind of loneliness where I miss the presence of God, then some kind of fear comes in my mind. As I experience such fear this morning, God sent two people from Hosur to visit and talk with me. Though they came just to spend some time with nature, still our talk and discussion much removed my fear within me and new kind of strength came. As I was recalling their visit and recognized that it is God who sent them in right time to encourage me, though I never long for human fellowship much in life. As I was meditating on this, I wrote this song.
Below is the corrected Tamil version first (all 10 stanzas, four lines each) and then the poetic English translation.
Place, date, and time are preserved in both Tamil and English.
BT Song 1735 Do this
1.
Whom You will choose,
And what You will do—
These things, my Lord,
Are always known to You.
2.
With whom You choose
Your purpose to fulfil—
This too, O Lord,
I understand as Your will.
3.
All that has happened
Till this very day
Has always unfolded
In this same hidden way.
4.
Though I know this truth
Deep within my mind,
Yet a shade of doubt
Still lingers behind.
5.
I lack the habit
To pause and see
And thank You well
For what has come to me.
6.
For this heart of mine
Still longs for more—
Dreaming of deeds
Not done before.
7.
What must be done,
What should I change?
Why do You refuse
To shift this inner range?
8.
Who will come
To transform me so?
Is there an answer
My soul should know?
9.
I learned at last
No other hand
Can change this heart
As You alone have planned.
10.
Whoever may come,
Whatever they try—
Without You, Lord,
Nothing will change in I.

BT Song 1731
Stanza 1
Stanza 2
Stanza 3
Stanza 4
Stanza 5
Stanza 6
Stanza 7
Stanza 8
Stanza 9
Stanza 10

BT Song 1733
