BT Songs 301 to 305

BT Song 301

BT Song 301 This is certain

Don’t have this unnecessary play with me

Listen to me and this is not a joke

Only those who struggle everyday with their mind

Alone will understand my struggle

Thousands of philosophical questions are in mind

So many thoughts which confuse mind

Strange questions which have no answer

Even if there is an answer, the heart won’t accept it.

Nobody’s answer ever become the final one

I am not sure whether to accept it or not

I don’t have any explanation for this with me

I don’t have any other answer other than you.

Fortunately, you never forsake me

Whatever I do you never abandon me

Having mercy, you redeemed me

Till the end you alone will protect me

This one answer I know for sure

Accepting this I will be emancipated

Once I realized this, the peace that you give

Will protect me and this one is certain.

30-5-15, Gurukulam 6.15 am.

Reading never helps much.  As I was reading too much and often reflecting on those thoughts, so many questions came to my mind.  Sometimes I find it difficult to have a clear discerning spirit to understand which one is correct and which one needs to be rejected.  But my deep conviction in the Lord alone steers me clearly in spite of my constant reflection and question on various subjects.

BT Song 302

 BT Song 302 unceasing noise

Looking within me

And seeing me in you

When I am going to give up

Outward activities?

Seeing many things with my eyes

Listening so many views

Having unnecessary thoughts

I am living without clarity

Uproar hits like waves

Joining with them

Making too much noise

I too live in this world

Having an unclear mind

Searching for an unknown path

Losing my contact with you

I become weak

After knowing my condition

Why this unnecessary silence

I cannot see your grace

Which redeemed me?

Enough is enough don’t desert me

As usual you come

And help me to live

Not allowing me to lament.

2-6-15, Gurukulam 6.05 am.

As the days are moving very fast and the time for me to move back to Mathigiri is approaching soon, I was more thinking about the life there compared to that I have here at the ashram.  Then so many thoughts, noises, voices occupied my mind.  Then I wrote this song pleading to God to take charge of my life again.

BT Song 303

BT Song 303 One who provides every day.

Let us get up early in the morning and hail His name

And rejoice keeping our thoughts in Him

He will protect us as the apple of the eyes

And will lead us by our hands.

Though each day is going as usual

Like that though our life too runs

The one who stands firmly will protect us

And will become the anchor in this uncertain life.

The life will come to an end in a minute

By passing as ‘yesterday, today and tomorrow’.

And let us keep firmly the feet of the one

Who will take us permanently with Him?

Nothing is lacking and there is no shortage for anything

As long as He is with us who provides everyday

Approaching His feet to receive His grace

Let us keep His flower-like feet on our head.

Which one is sweeter than this?

His grace is there for both this life and next

Keeping this truth in our heart

As we worship Him His grace is for us always.

3-6-15, Gurukulam, 6-05 am.

As I got up very early, I sat to observe the beauty of nature with bird’s voices.  It was a pleasant and beautiful morning.  Though life is going as usual and also very fast, yet the unchanging grace of God remains the same. Last year I shifted back to Mathigiri.  Many things happened in between.  But the love and mercy of God remains the same.  And thinking about it, I wrote this song.

BT Song 304.

BT Song 304. I realized the truth

You have shown this much grace

What can you do more than this?

I wandered like a dead man on this earth

And you redeemed seeking after me

Without having honesty and a firm mind

I lived taking the body alone as real

I sought so many pleasures

And become like a deer which chased a mirage

As all the pleasures which I sought disappeared like a dream

I cried within me to know the truth

I run everywhere and searched to attain it

And I collapsed with a broken heart

I become tired not knowing the path

I was get trapped in a forest without having any direction

I wandered unable to find the path to come out

Finally fell down fainted as there was no means to escape

When I woke up, I saw me in your hands

And I saw my tired body on your lap

When I got up with tiredness I again fall on your shoulder

And when I lifted up my eyes I saw your holy face

Unable to ask ‘who are you’?

Not knowing how you have redeemed me

Immediately I fell at your feet and held them firmly

And remain there till this day not leaving them

You know to protect me as you have redeemed me

You know to take me to the Further Shore as you are protecting me

You know to accompany me as you took me to the shore

As you come along with me, I realized this truth

From that day till now

I began to realize the grace in my heart

I don’t know anything beyond this

O my Lord, I won’t ask anything other than your feet

Again, I got an opportunity to be alone in the ashram.  As usual after my evening walk, I sat quietly immersed in the silence around me.  Then I began to review my life from my student life. After spending time reviewing my life so far, I wrote this song.

As I say in stanza six ‘unable to ask who you are’; and ‘unable to recognize how you redeemed’ is the climax of my bhakti.  As I say in the same stanza, without thinking further,  suddenly I fell at His feet and held them. Then my theology began from there.  For many starts from their head (brain) but for me it started from the feet of the Lord. When I began to share my bhakti journey through my songs, I gave the title ‘Bhakti Theology’ and I think this concept of ‘bhakti’ would be the richest contribution to the theology as a whole—as there are so many kinds of theology in the world. And all the conflicting theologies can finally take their refuge at the feet of the Lord than reasoned out through our heads (brain).

BT Song 305.

BT Song 305. He will become the balm.

By remaining quietly

Thinking Him in atman

Keeping Him in the heart

Seek God.

Giving up the body

With enthusiasm

Seek Him always

With longing.

He will come rushing

Don’t doubt about it

He will become the balm

By filling the heart.

18-6-15 Mathigiri, 2.40 pm.

I returned back to Mathigiri on 17th after staying at the ashram nearly for six weeks.  As usual after my afternoon reading, when I spent some time in prayer, one thought that came to my mind was ‘to remain quietly’.  Then I couldn’t pray and began to think about it.  Then I wrote the first line.  But the next few lines came spontaneously in alphabetical order of Tamil letters.  There is no reason for this.  But then I recalled the very first song that I wrote back in my college days with Tamil alphabetical letters.  Mere theology or philosophy won’t be the inspiration to write songs.  It will come spontaneously as it is and nobody can predict which shape it will take. This is one such song. Again it is very difficult to translate such songs in another language.
