BT Song 366

BT Song 366 Old age has come
I do which is possible for me
More than this you alone need to take care
Not thinking that I can accomplish (everything)
I should do anything by joining with you.
I need to concentrate whatever I do
Even if I do little, I should do it at my best
When impediment come then I should do whichever is possible by me
If I avoid giving excuses, then I will become useless one.
We came to the world to do many works
Without work life will become barren
Over working also become dangerous
We need to live according to our age
There was a time when accomplished depending upon our strength
There is time when we worked along with others
Once the body become weak, doing things with others help
Is the sign of old age!
Old age has come and I accept it
But don’t make me cripple that is one thing I beg you
In order to do what I can do
I pray unto you to uphold me.
1-1-2016, Mathigiri, 2.55 pm.
Though I accepted that I have reached the retirement age, yet I realized that the spirit of doing something all the time (workaholic?) is not possible any more. So the best way to handle old age is to understand my limitations and do my best, not become a burden to others by over working. Then I wrote this song.
BT Song 367

BT Song 367 Did you forget your promise?
Did you forget your promise O Charitable One?
Won’t you accompany me in my pilgrimage?
Is it time to test?
Can I utter it to you?
Why did you allow this?
And permitted this trial?—did you….
I was busy each day
I have done many of your sevas
And tried to do some
Good things in life too!—did you…
But if I over-work
As I will become tired
Thinking to give some rest
You made me sit like this?—did you…
Body become tired
And skin also began to shrink
The strength also gone
And as the body began to stumble—did you….
Let things accomplished for me
According to your will
And let my mind continue to know
Your will for me each day—did you….

Again due to severe lower back pain, I cannot do much work and was laying down most of the time. Somehow I managed to cook food for me and my mother and then came and lay down on the cot. As I cannot do any other work, and at the same time unable to sleep due to severe pain, I began to question the Lord about allowing this in my life. That time I wrote this song, lying down on the cot.
BT Song 368

BT Song 368 unfathomable nature
Invisible to human eyes,
Your hands are protecting us
Incomprehensible to human inference
Your dharma upholds
Beyond to human understanding
Is your nature
Humans cannot grasp
Your unchanging heart!
World won’t understand
Your noble sacrifice
The way you redeemed me
By giving yourself
The divine riddle
Which no one can think through?
I tried to utter
What kind of foolishness is this?
Each day accompanying me
By stretching your Holy hands
And walking along with me
By upholding my hands
When I stumble
The way you uplift and hug
Bhakti understands
The way you uphold me
Fortunately you gave
This bhakti to me
And you gave a buddhi
To bow unto you
And you gave a heart
Only to worship you
And you gave words
To praise you
Why should I see you?
With my naked eyes?
Why should I understand?
Through my reason
When even heart cannot
Comprehend it totally
Can human beings understand?
Your nature?
Like the innocent child
Which does not have any cunning?
Like a water body
Which is crystal clear?
When we cleanse
The mind with your dharma
Then all can understand
Your noble nature.

Today when I opened Muktiveda for my regular reading, I couldn’t do it. Kept the Muktiveda open on my lap, I began to think about the Lord. I realized that the invisible hands of the Lord are carrying His bhaktas each day. Though I cannot see it or experience it, my bhakti helps me to understand it. Then I wrote this song expressing that understanding.
BT Song 369

BTR song 369 Veda is the Foundation
Without foundation nothing will withstand
Without His grace our life won’t sustain
In this life of unceasing wave
There is no other anchor other than His Words
We cannot understand God through our
Emotion which constantly fight with us
Or through the mind which never remain constant
And through the buddhi which never remains stable
He gave Himself for us to be redeemed
He gave His Spirit for us to grow
He gave His Veda for us to know Him
He gave other bhaktas for us to worship with them
However we delight in our personal bhakti
And remain happy with Him in our private sadhana
In order to dwell in bhakti and grow in buddhi
Nothing will help other than His Words
Keeping His Veda as the foundation
And making His Spirit as our Acharya
Becoming His shishyas along with other bhaktas
Let us learn from Sat-Guru.

As I was sharing the importance of ‘studying’ the Word of God, rather than merely reading it every day as part of sadhana, I wrote this song. For me the Word of God gives the foundation for our bhakti in the Lord. Though I cannot understand everything in it clearly, yet all that I try to understand through my study and interpretations are like the superstructure which I can change only the foundation of the Word of God. This is true in most of the sampradaya also in India. Though Hindus claim that it is not a religion of a book, yet the role of scripture plays an important role in most of the sampradayas.
BT Song 370

BT Song 370 Your Grace
Somehow your grace upholds me
And upholding me it carries me each day
Not living depending upon my strength
It helps me to abide in you
I carry the burden of life unable to carry it
And I suffer a lot, which I cannot utter
But not allowing anything to cross its limit
Protecting me through your grace is your greatness
It is beyond to utter through words and language
It is beyond to understand through the mind
As we can attain it through the inner intuition
It is impossible to tell the nature of your grace in words
You gave grace even to the grace
You become simple to the bhaktas
You carried the sin of the world
Am I needed to utter its greatness anymore?
Your grace which came to make me your own
And the nobleness which over lorded me making me your own
How foolishness is it to utter it with few words
Like (one) trying to dry the ocean with the help of a small shell?
Yet bestowing grace become your character
Similarly hiding it to the wise become your nature
And blessing this fool with your grace become your greatness
As I live with a mind which does not understand that grace
6-1-16; 9-1-16, 2.55 & 2.45 pm. Mathigiri
Without any motivation, life becomes meaningless. Simply living a life, as we need to live, becomes a burden. Particularly most of the elderly people realize this. Though life became a burden, my bhakti always reminds me that the best motive for me to live is to continue to enjoy the bliss of bhakti. As I was thinking in this line, I wrote this song. Though I wrote the first two stanzas on 6th, I completed it on 9th.
