BT Songs 436 to 440

BT Song 436

As I got up around 3.00 am (see previous song 435), I was thinking about my friend Kannan and his ailment.  After writing that song, though I retired to bed, I cannot catch my sleep again. Then began to immerse in the silence around me in the ashram.  That time I began to think about the various teachings in our Indian tradition for one to become a wise person.  But I said to myself that the best way to become a wise person is to speak less and never react to anyone. Though we often blame our tongue for all our outbursts, finally as we failed to overcome us, we simply blame it.

BT Song 436

BT Song 436 Poor tongue

To become a wise person on earth

We should keep quiet and become a mouni

We need not perform tapasya

And need not run and hide in a forest

When we use too many words

Unnecessary arguments arise

Once we become economical in words

It begets wonder

There is no point of

Just shattering the words

When we use words thinking properly

The maturity will automatically come in us

If we just throw away anyone from our life

Nobody will have any respect for us

How much reasons we might give for that

None will accept it

 “Whoever it might be

Guard your tongue” said Valluvar@

Once we use too much of our tongue

We will become rotten, he warned us

God gave a tongue without bone

In order to test us

What that poor tongue can do

Once we fail to overcome us

@Whatever they fail to guard, over lips men guard should keep.

If not, through fault of tongue, they bitter tears shall weep

Explanation: Whatever besides you leave unguarded, guard your tongue. Otherwise errors of speech and the consequent miserly will ensue.—Kural 127

Gurukulam, 4-6-16,  4.15 am.

BT Song 347

One of the reasons for me to choose this life as a Single man is to have my own time.  Added to this, however I failed to live like a typical sannyasi up to that idealism, yet I am not supposed to involve too much in mundane activities.  Interestingly God deliberately put many responsibilities from which I actually want to run away.  As a sannyasi I am not expected to take care of buildings and properties, keep accounts, arrange for meetings, organize works, and try to fix problems which naturally come in such big property.  Added to this I have to take care of my mother—which of course I do joyfully. But actually I don’t want to be involved in all such activities and prefer to have a real recluse life.

And when I went for my evening walk, again I began to recall my life again. There I realized that how often I fail to see the providence of God has beautifully arranged for me to carry out all these responsibilities with much ease.  God never let us alone to struggle in any area in our life and always opens seven doors when one door is closed.  But not seeing what He has provided, when I only began to think about my own needs and comforts (or problems and worries), I fail to see all that He has arranged, even better than what others could arrange.  As my mother often says, I can accomplish only making a few calls without getting out of my chair and surprisingly God sends several angels to do all things in human form.

But due to my fallen nature, till the end of my life I am going to remain like this, often complaining about what I don’t have than remaining thankful that God has provided that too abundantly.  The last stanza reflects the reality of my nature and poor God He has to deal with me till the end like this.  I feel sorry for Him as He has no respite from a person like me.

BT Song 437

BT Song 437 No end to complaints

How many blessings God has given to me

But not thinking about them

Thinking only small small troubles

I received  in everyday life

Always thinking only about me

And always complaining on everything

And counting only the shortcomings in others

I lost my peace due to my own anger (temperament)

Who else does not have struggles in this world?

And who do not have pressure in the life

How much burden they are carrying

And find peace only amidst them

I never see others’ trouble

And never contemplate about their needs

And I become tired of carrying my own burden

And refuse to see all the blessings that God has given to me

In which area of my life, He kept any shortcomings

And He bestowed even before I ask them

But none of those blessings are visible to me

And only my complaints never cease

What others can do in this wretched condition?

And they keep away from me doing what they can do

Only God alone standing with me keeping patience

Refusing to abandon me further!

Though my reason accepts, my heart refuses to agree with it

And my poor atman is crushed in between them

It is the burden of the one who created me

And I live as usual, what else can I do?

6-6-16, Gurukulam, 6.10 pm.

BT Song 438

When I got up in the morning, I saw the beautiful eastern reddish sky.  The serenity that surrounded me again mesmerised me.  Though I want to go to the bathroom urgently, I don’t want to get disturbed by other things and sit calmly on my cot just enjoying nature and worshiping the Lord.  Then I longed to be here as I can often have such a mystic experience—which of course might last for a few minutes.  But, as usual, my mind began to divert by thinking about other things that I need to do today (preparing breakfast for the guest, cooking, assigning work for the helpers, things I need to buy for the weekend meeting etc. etc.).  Then out of compulsion I got up thanking God for at least giving a few minutes to enjoy nature and worship Him along with it.  When I went for my evening walk, again I began to recall that wonderful experience in the morning and wrote this song.

BT Song 438

BT Song 438 The responsibility that He gave

When we watch the nature, sweet music will come

And rejoicing, our heart will sing about God

Trees, creepers, and plants will dance joyfully

And they will praise the One who takes care of the creation

The sun also rose silently

And joined with us to glorify the Lord

And the birds also worship Him with music

And my heart also mingled with them.

Silently I bowed at His feet

And overcame by joy I sat quietly

And I saw His face longing to have this bliss

All the time in life

Yet the responsibilities disturbed the inner silence

And the everyday works gave pressure

Thinking the few minutes which He gave to

Worship Him; I got up (from my meditation)

Knowing that this is the reality in life

And thinking about my love towards Him

And to do the responsibilities which He gave

I got up to do them well with His strength

Gurukulam, 7-6-16, 6.10 pm.

BT Song 439

BT Song 439 Never repented

My mind won’t accept

Whatever others say

It won’t understand its situation

How much it thinks

It will never repent after realizing (its wretched condition)

And never will realize even after seeing (its condition)

Pitiable is my condition

What else can I do?

I try to escape

By blaming others

And argue that

Whatever others say is not correct

And transferring my wrongs

On others

I try to escape

By pretending that I am blameless

Even if others

Point out my mistakes

I try to justify them

By saying many things

If they keep away (because of this)

By saying ‘get lost’

I hurt them

By mocking at their decision

What to do further

In such a situation

I neither change because of other’s advice

And I also failed my self

At the same time

I cannot allow it go as it is

And now there is no other hope

Except God to redeem me

8-6-16, Gurukulam, 6.15 am.

As I sat this morning for a short time meditation, I was thinking about my own nature which remains rebellious in many ways.  Other than God no one can correct this.  And this poem reflects this thought.

BT Song 439

BT Song 440

As my brother bought a new house, he called my mother to inform that this morning he is doing the housewarming ceremony at a particularl auspicious time.  Then my mother was talking about the exact time when it needs to be done and what are the things need to bought etc.  Then I automatically said to myself that for me all the time is good and all the days are good.  This thought I had even from school days.  Particularly when I have to pay the exam fee in the college I will deliberately go and pay the money in the most inauspicious time (Rahukalam) which others will avoid. And the counter also will be free.  As it is a Brahmin college, the person who collects the money also will remind me that this is not a good time to pay the exam fee. But I will insist that he receive it by telling, ‘I born in Rahu Kalam and my parents never threw me away.  I don’t believe in it’.  Whenever I refuse to observe auspicious times to do anything, my mother will tell teasingly, ‘he himself was born in Ragukalam’.  And my bhakti in the Lord also enhanced this conviction more deeply as I need not follow any of these rules and regulations to do anything in life.

BT Song 440

BT Song 440 What days can do?

All the days are good (for me)

All the days are auspicious for me

All human beings are good one

This is my conviction

God created days and time only for us

And left for us to decide which one is good or not

But not knowing what He has done for us

We are looking to the planets for auspicious times

If we trust God which can do anything to us

As even nature will listen to Him.

Though He gave a discerning spirit

We lost it because of fear (about planets and inauspicious times)

If we lose our mind because of our foolishness

Then planets and auspicious/inauspicious times will rule us

If we trust the grace of the one who has overcome the time

Days or Time—what can they do to us?

How much we mix water and oil

As they won’t mingle together

Blind faith and true bhakti

Will never remain together in us

The one who created everything and handed over them to me

Once He came and dwells within me

As I only see good in everything

I live without any fear (about anything)
