BT Song 471
Though Sevanand asked us to run the race to get the prize, in our race as bhaktas of the Lord all of us will get the first prize as there is no defeat in it. So we need not compete for any other achievement in this life of bhakti.
BT Song 471

BT Song 471 It is enough
Let us not have this unnecessary competition
And please don’t chase, coming after me
I am not ready to participate in any competition
Because I am no more interested in it
You ask me to run along with you
And I try to run behind you
But not telling why we are running
You ask me to run along with you
What prize am I going to receive?
Already as you have given that to me
There is no need for any new crown
And I don’t need any further achievements
Is there any achievement other than bhakti?
Is there any better abode other than your feet?
Is there any other prize other than doing your seva
Is there any other crown than to be called as your bhakta
I don’t want to have wisdom to argue
And I don’t need any intelligence to debate
And I don’t want any fame as a learned person
And I don’t need to achieve any fame by reading many things
I should always serve your bhaktas
And become the dust of their feet
And I should proclaim the glory of bhakti
And should live always as your bhakta
All those who participate in this race
Will definitely get the first prize
There is no place for defeat in this
And you never allowed us to be defeated

BT Song 472
As I was taking a bath, I remembered about the Lord. That time I thought, what is the illustration that one can use to describe one’s relationship with God? As I was meditating while taking a bath, I suddenly remembered that I put dhal in the cooker and left it on the stove. So, as usual I quickly finished the bath forgetting about the Lord and meditation. Then after completing the kitchen work, when I returned back to my table, I recalled that thought and wrote this song. I never keep any specific time to pray or worship the Lord. Whenever I feel I do it, as I enjoy my relationship with Him in every walk of my life.
BT Song 472

472 Let us have fellowship
There are no illustrations to sing your praise
I am not competent enough to say about your grace
And there are not enough words to talk about your nobleness
And there is no refuge for me other than you
When you come and occupy my entire mind
Words and language become useless
Once you mingle with my feelings
Illustrations and talents disappear
As I worship you all the time
Not minding about the time and day
Thousands of thoughts come and
Bring hurdle between us
Yet they cannot overcome me
And they cannot separate us
Is this any human relationship to go?
As God Himself came for the sake of His bhakta
Therefore, I need not tell any more about it
And I need not write or sing about it
And I need not listen to whatever others might say about it
And I need not rebuttal them
Let You and me remain together
And in thought and feeling mingle together
And You giving fellowship and I rejoice in You
Let us live together forgetting days and time.

BT Song 473
Another song of ‘viraha-bhakti’ love in separation. Such songs are common in Indian religious literature and particularly in Tamil poems by saints. Subramanya Bharatiyar also has written similar beautiful songs. Those who can read and understand those songs in their true spirit of ‘viraha-bhakti’ alone can enjoy the beauty, sorrow in separation, the rich words that we have in Indian languages to express it. Particularly those songs in Tamil will move one’s heart and will empathise with the girl who sings that song expressing her ‘viraha-bhakti’. I am fortunate to read, understand and enjoy them.
BT Song 473

BT Song 473 I will wait for you
Do you still not understand this?
And can’t you understand my condition
How I am going to talk about it to you
And where else can I go and complain?
From my young age as a little child
O Lord you know my love for you
Once I grew up in my body also
You know the heart of this innocent one
I don’t know any other name other than yours
I uttered your name each day
I locked you inside my eyes
And was waiting for the days to come and mingle with you
But you appeared and disappeared like a lightning
And you forgot my true love
And you have done exactly as I feared
And you forgot the refuge which you gave to me
But my love never diminished even a bit
I never forgot the promise which you gave already
I will wait till the time will come
And I will keep my love for you within my heart
I know you will never forsake me
And I will never go outside your protection
All the time that I am waiting for you
I will live remembering our love (for each other)

BT Song 474
Sometimes I feel that like a child I too should become adamant in demanding certain things from God. As He too cannot live without me, I have to remind Him that He cannot take for granted my bhakti. I read in one of the Tamil bhakti poems, where the bhakta tells God to go and live happily without him, if that will help relieve one of His burdens. This is known in Tamil as செல்லக் கோபம் (chellak kovaam). I don’t know the word for it in English or Hindi. As I recalled that poem this afternoon, I wrote this song. I know others will say that God can live even without us. But according to bhakti tradition, God too long for the fellowship of His bhaktas.
BT Song 474

BT Song 474 There is no other means
I came without knowing
And stood before you without understanding
Without any clarity in mind
I become a bundle of confusion
I need Grace
And I tell that to You
Why I become upset with You
Do you not know about it?
There is no clarity in mind
And no strength in body
I become tired
Both in heart and mind
Lamenting become my life
And each day become a struggle
Therefore, I contended
With you many times
I won’t tell anymore
And won’t ask you no more
Do you not know?
Therefore, I won’t come unto you any more
You live happily
Without me
And don’t carry
My burden unnecessarily
Only if become adamant like this
You will understand
And there is
No other means for me other than this

BT Song 475
We all know about the concept of ‘debt’ in the Indian worldview. We were born with debt to so many people [Gods, Rishis, ancestors, fellow human beings and other creatures]. But similarly there is another concept of borrowing from each other. It is possible for a person to borrow from someone whom she knows well. Unless one trusts the others, the former won’t give money when the latter wants to borrow. So in my bhakti with the Lord, I don’t feel that I am indebted to Him but I borrowed something and knowing well my bankruptcy sometimes He should accept my poverty which does not allow me to return back even that borrowed money. My argument with the Lord is that once I pay back the debt I can become free from my bondage but when I borrow, unable to pay back, I can keep my relationship with Him forever.
BT Song 475

BT Song 475 I am indebted to you
I have a debt to you which I cannot pay back
Unable to settle the account with you
Will anything compensate for what you have done?
And can I give something when I have nothing with me
As the Sovereign God you ruled the entire universe
And created and protected it
When we rebelled, you received us back by forgiving
And you accepted the curse upon you for my sake
In order to know you, you give up your (divine) status
And you lived among us so that we can understand you
You served us without showing any discrimination
And you gave wisdom by removing our ignorance
In order to redeem us, you gave yourself for us
And you offered yourself as a ransom for us
You denied yourself by hanging on the cross
And you gave us redemption by thinking about us
What can I give back for all these?
Once I become yours as you redeemed me
You have never done this expecting anything back from us
Therefore, it is not possible for me to pay back this debt
It is better not to pay back certain debts
Once I become your own and how it is possible for me
Where comes the concept of ‘debt’ when we borrow little bit from each other
And if we pay back the debt what will happen to our relationship
