BT Songs 551 to 555

BT Song 551

Personal ego hurts one more than hurting others. Particularly when I began to justify my acts in the name of serving others or not serving others, I searched for so many reasons for it. But after debating over them in my mind, when I become tired and keep quiet, then silently the righteousness of God judges me without saying or rebuking me.  This egoism and selfishness is a constant struggle with which I fight every day.

BT Song 551

BT Song 551 Another boon

You should give another boon

It is not enough what I have already

I should have compassion like you

And should remove selfishness within me

How much selfishness is behind whatever I do?

What can I do about it?

I pretend that I am serving others

But stop when some hurdle comes

I give thousands of reasons for that

And how much I argue for others to accept it

Though my own heart witness against it

I easily despise it

When your righteousness troubles me

How many reasons I give for that

And then when you keep quiet

Unable to bear it further I fall at your feet

Why you kept this struggle within me

You stripped me naked to show who I am

Not accusing me how much you have punished me

I cannot bear it any more, please forgive me

You give another boon to get rid of this selfishness

And bestow the grace to remove it

Adding more to all the boons which you already gave

Give this one additionally

BT Song 552

Another song thanking God what He has done to me in the Lord.

BT Song 552

BT Song 552 Gave new life

You received me with love

And more than that you gave new life to me

You allowed me to live happily in you

And you gave boon to sing about it

I suffered due to many things

I was drowned in the ocean of sorrow

By uplifting me you took me to the shore

And removing all the sorrows you gave joy

I was eager to know more about you

I wanted to know about your nobleness

In order to show the simple means

You become a guru accepting my own (human) nature

As thousands of questions rose to toss me

Like the roaring waves

Silencing them

You arranged the means to know about you

Removing the pride that I knew you

You gave the nature of humility

And you helped me to understand your true nature

By hiding to the wise and giving to this unlettered one

BT Song 553

When I read the following Surdas poem, I was struck with the similarity of the story of the prodigal son in Muktiveda. Then, inspired by Surdas poem, I wrote this immediately.  It is interesting to note that similar thoughts are a common experience of a true bhakta. ###

Master, my mind is drained of thought,

It’s left your lotus feet, treasury of all delight,

And taken to toiling like a dog,

Endlessly wandering, licking pots

In barren houses and on burning pyres.

Can one ever satiate such greed?

No, the soul never slakes its thirst.

Wherever it goes, it’s in constant fear

Of stones and sticks and shoes.

How many insults has it suffered, poor dumb fool?

How many slurs for a mouthful here and there?

Hari, most merciful, you guard the whole world;

You yourself take charge of every heart.

Only a grand fool, says Sur, a fool like me,

Would leave that home to scavenge with the lost. —Sur’s Ocean, eds. Kenneth E Bryant, trs. By John Stratton Hawley, Massachusetts, Murty Classical Library of India, Harvard University Press, song 390, p. 675

BT Song 553 Received me again

Only a fool like me

Alone runs away from you

Forsaking the life of a king

Will roam like a dog

I lived freely

In my own home

But like a pig

I wanted to roll in a ditch

Begging at every house

I returned back with empty hand

Longing for the leftover food

How many leaves I turned

I was beaten by stick and stone

And many scolded me

For a handful of food

I wandered all around the town

Then I remembered

All that I ate in the silver plate

And thought about those time

When I drank milk in golden cups

Taking pity on me

I returned back at your door

And running towards me eagerly

You took me back in the home

BT Song 554

One constant theme in Hindu worldview is about the ‘lila’ or divine play by God.  Sometime I too feel that God is doing His own play in which we are called to act to the script which He wrote, but never disclosed to us. And as a joke I said to Him, ‘like a mega serial you too wrote central theme.  But as the serial director, in order to run it for several episodes (even for more than four to five years) stretch the scene.  This sometime will make them to struggle how to end the serial.  So you too though wrote the central them, now stretch it beyond its limit and unable to complete it.’  Interestingly, in the entire creation of God, we alone are available for Him to enact His drama.

BT Song 554

BT Song 554 Your drama

Enact your drama

And we will accept our part

Once we become the object of tamash (show)

Why should we hesitate to act on the stage?

The world become your stage

You created us to act on it

Whichever role you give

Finally, it becomes your prerogative

When our time comes to act

The call will come

Till that time sitting with the crowd

We should watch when others act

No where one can see this

Where we have to act and we alone have to watch (the drama)

And leaving us (human beings) in the entire creation

Nothing is available for you to do this

Somehow you begin it

But when you will finish, we don’t know

And how to close it

Even you too don’t know

How long you will continue to create us

So that there will be an audience to watch (your drama)

And what kind of answer you will give

For those who watched so far (and now gone)

Didn’t you know?

How to end this story

And did you never understand

Why you have written even this (drama)

Before writing this story

You should have thought about it properly

Otherwise, this story will become

An unending mega serial

Mathigiri, 19-10-16 (20-10-16), 12.15 am.

BT Song 555

Another fight with God complaining that He does not understand my plight.  He has his own power and authority to do anything as He likes.  The common complaint about God is that neither He consult nor He inform us well in advance and do things suddenly when we are not prepared for that.  The common saying is correct that ‘we are sent to the world without being asked and will be taken away without being consulted’.  I have written several such songs in which I fight with the Lord in full fledge without any hesitation.

BT Song 555

BT Song 555 Will you allow?

Thousands of times I have told you

And now one more time I am telling

Don’t ask unnecessary questions

And don’t push me in the fire of suffering

Is there any one to question you?

Do you have worries like me?

First understand this

And then ask questions

Keeping all the authority with you

And more than that ruling over us

And enacting as per your wish

You don’t understand this

You need not share even a small part of it with us

And we don’t need even a share in your rule

Do whatever you like

But listen this also along with it

What will you lack?

If you share before you decide

What will you miss?

If you just consult me a bit

Will I say no to you?

Or will run away from you

Did I ever have done like that before

And even if do, will you let me to do that
