BT Song 591
Another song on Viraha-bhakti (love in separation) but this time with a less romantic note. As I went for my evening walk, as I was meditating about the Lord and as I was babbling something, the first few words came as inspiration in my mind. Then I wrote the whole song there itself by recording line by line in my mobile voice recorder and then later copied it on a paper. Several times I have done this, where I used to record a few words or lines, but this evening as the thoughts flowed continuously, I had to quickly record the entire song on the phone itself.
BT Song 591

BT Song 591 How is it possible for you?
I become like a mad person
I don’t see you having any compassion on this innocent one
I called you many times by raising my voice
But I don’t see that my voice has reached your presence
Don’t you know that I am alone?
Is it right not to have mercy upon me
Is there none to take pity on me?
Is there no one who understands my condition?
I don’t have anyone to send as my emissary to you
I don’t find anyone who can remove my sorrow
This poor heart never forgets you
I told to it many times, but refuses to listen to me
What else can I say any more to you?
In what way can I explain my situation to you?
Whatever might be your response, I won’t let you go
I won’t take courage to leave your feet
How long you can remain not listening to me
Where else can you go, leaving me alone?
Once I kept you in my heart and locked it
How is it possible for you to escape from me?

BT Song 592
Another song based on Surdas:
Until you wake to what you really are
You’ll be like the man who searches the jungle
for a jewel that hangs from his neck.
Oil, wick, and fire: if you mix them in a cruise,
won’t they give bright light? (p.745)
But how can you expect to dissipate the darkness
Simply by talking about lamps?
You’re the sort of fool who notices your face
Has been fouled by inky filth in a mirror
And proceeds to try to erase the blackness
By cleaning the reflection to a shine.
Surdas says, time to wise up now—
Those days were futile, gone—
For who could ever hope to see the greatness of the sun
By covering the eyes, by being blind? —Sur’s Ocean, eds. Kenneth E Bryant, trs. By John Stratton Hawley, Massachusetts, Murty Classical Library of India, Harvard University Press, Song 428, pp. 745& 747
BT Song 592

BT Song 592 Ok let it be a thing of past
Wearing a diamond on the neck
If you search for it in the entire forest
Till the end you won’t get it back
You keep this in mind
Putting oil and wick in the lamp
If you light the lamp, you will get light
If you forget to put them together
How the darkness will go
In order to remove the dark spot on the face
What is the use of cleaning the mirror?
Keeping all kinds of filth in the heart
What is the use living a foolish life
Once you have lost your eyesight
Don’t say that ‘I won’t see any more the sun’
By closing your (blind) eyes
And mock at yourself
This is time to be awakened
And struggle to remove all the filths in the heart
Let the things happened so far be a past event
Born again new in your heart

BT Song 593
Being a single person has its own blessing and curse. As I have all my time at my own disposal, each day I will think and plan how I am going to spend that day—particularly according to my need and satisfaction. This often forces me to think everything is only centred on me. Of course I have to serve others—as I am doing at present to my mother. But even in this too, I feel that my service is also self-centred and have some kind of selfishness. When I ought to serve others I will do it with whole heart and at my best. But when others expect more than what I can do, then I will say ‘no’. Though I often feel that this I say due to my selfishness, sometimes I justify it by arguing that: ‘blessed is the one who understands her limitation’. And the justification that I give to myself is this: without recognizing my limitations and if I go beyond what I can do, then a time may come where I have to retreat. That time it will affect others more than me, as they cannot substitute my part easily. So I won’t commit more than what I can do.
Is this selfishness, or prudence? I don’t know. But when I sit and meditate, this ‘self-centeredness’ and ‘selfishness’ are often disturbed in my consciousness. I don’t know how to overcome it. And I feel God too is not helping me much to resolve it. And I have to live with this disturbance in my conscience till the end.
BT Song 593

BT Song 593 What is the reason?
What is the reason for you not to think about me?
How far it is right on your part not to have mercy upon me
This poor one called you many times in a day
Why not show your mercy one more time
Whenever I called, you came rushing
Even before I tell, you understood my condition
Doing what is required you redeemed me
But why you now refuse to listen to me
I didn’t come to ask many things
There is nothing for me to tell anything new
But it is not proper on your part thinking that
This is the same old lamentation from me
I always think only about my need
Toil without stopping to get it
In between sometimes I think about you
Even in that I found some kind of selfishness
I don’t have any concern for others
I never think the needs of others
Even telling that I am serving others
Is there nothing to but to get back all my requirements?
Knowing this alone did you reject me?
Do you refused to listen to whatever I tell
Thinking that there is no more use
You refuse to have mercy upon me
What can I do, my (old) nature is not going away
How much I try, my selfishness is not disappearing
Even if you also forsake me what will happen to me
(At least) you should give an answer for this
Why you didn’t allow me to go in my own way
I never asked you to come and redeem me
Now it is your responsibility to change which you have redeemed
Do you have any objections for this?
How can I tell more than this about my condition?
Did I ever refuse anything (that you do), only tell that
To whom shall I go and ask for the justice
And how to resolve this your anger

BT Song 594
As I was thinking about the burden and privilege of human life, I wrote this song. But neither the burden remains permanent nor the joy. Torn between the two there is no other option but again question only God
BT Song 594 What is there to talk with you?
What do you think?
And what is your will
You won’t tell anything before
And if I ask, then you become upset with me
Do whatever you want as it is your will
You are God and what is there for me to tell
Though I argued with you, what is the use?
Whatever you decide that becomes final
Why I born as a human here
Who is the reason for this you tell me that
There is no mistake on my part for that
And you who created also not answering
On one side I find it as a burden
On the other side I consider it as a privilege
Unable to bear the burden many times I lament
But thinking about this privilege also I rejoice
But both of them are not permanent one
There is no time to think about them
You too don’t worry about it
This is our problem is your stand

BT Song 595
In life several twists and turns happen all in a sudden. Several times I wonder what is my role in it and what is God’s plan. But the only solution left with me is to wait for his time to reveal and also enact.
BT Song 595

BT Song 595 Our higher status
Let He come whenever He wants
Don’t compel Him to come
once He arrived
don’t do anything to miss him again
whenever he wants give
don’t refuse to receive
if he refuses to give
don’t compel him to give
does he not know
what is proper time
does he not know
what is your requirement
the one who protected so far
will now refuse to do it
what kind of question is this
can he ever deny you
He came after you
not because you requested
he never gave himself
not because you asked to do so
once he created you
now it becomes his responsibility
realizing this alone
becomes your call
there is a joy
to receive which ever he gives
there is some happiness
to wait for his time to give
it is good to preserve
whichever he gives
there is progress for us
to wait till he gives
