BT Song 861

I wrote this song after reading a few more pages in commentaries and other books. They all require us to have a systematic understanding of Muktiveda. But when so many (contradictory) views are presented before us, the final resort is only the Spirit of the Lord, who alone can teach us about the love of God. Though mysticism always remains a mystery, it still has a vital part in our bhakti life.

BT Song 861: I Need Your Abode

I try to think

But it is not clear to me

Though I try to write down

My mind cannot understand it

Finally, when I come

Bowing to your feet

I understand your love

I have been denying it

What I understood is little

When others shared about it

Even after reading your Veda

What I understood was also little

Only after you taught

By your Spirit

I understood

This alone is true

Though I researched

To know through my intellect

Though I read

So many books

Until you tell

By taking mercy on me

My heart won’t understand

Finally, I understood this

You alone came

To redeem me

You gave boons

On your own

When I get disappointed

By my own efforts

You came voluntarily

To uphold me

Thinking this

I reached your feet

I begged you to

Uphold me like this

I should complete my earthly life

Living like this

I should reach your

Unparalleled abode

Mathigiri, 11.4.18, 2:30 p.m.

BT Song 862

The only problem in bhakti is that we take the Lord for granted because of His compassion. Though a bhakta worships her bhagavan (God), bhakti as a relationship often makes that relationship very familiar. So, bhakti with humility should go hand in hand.

 BT Song 862: Need Humility

If we seek

He will be found

If we only knock

He will open (the door)

Keeping His

Ears open to listen

He will bestow

As we ask

We need to seek

With deep conviction

We should knock

With much humility

Before asking

Knowing our need

We should ask

According to His will

We sought so far

Not knowing properly

We knocked on the door

Where no one is living

Not knowing

How to ask

We asked

Unnecessary things

Before seeking,

Knocking, and asking

We should know

What is our need?

When He comes

And bestows

We should have

Humility

Though He

Is a simple one

Still, we should realize

That He is God too

Though He came down

With much compassion

We should have

Much humility

When we

Approach Him

With much

Humility

When we receive Him

And are emancipated

We will

Realize that

Mathigiri, 13-4-18, 1:45 p.m.

BT Song 863

For me, repentance is not merely an opportunity given by God but also a virtue only we humans can have. As I was reflecting on the greatness of repentance, I wrote this song. Sometimes I feel that the greatness of the Lord can be understood when we get lost and regain Him after repentance. In that sense, repentance becomes even a virtue.

BT Song 863: Opportunity to Repentance

Though they go away

One day they will come back

Realizing you

They will worship your feet again

Lamenting after

Realizing what they have done unknowingly

O Holy One

They will take refuge at your feet

There is no human

Who won’t repent?

If one does not repent

Then he cannot be human

Once we miss the opportunity

Which you give to repent

There is no chance

To repent again

I tell this

As one who has repented

I told the simple

Means for repentance

If they come back

After repentance

I will worship

Your feet along with them

Mathigiri, 13-4-18, 1:15 p.m.

BT Song 864

In the bhakti tradition, the feet of bhagavan hold a special place. In the lives of several bhaktas, receiving a special deeksha by being touched by the feet of the Lord is considered a significant event.

BT Song 864: The Deeksha of Holy Feet

You should give

The darshan of your Holy feet

I should realize

The grace of God

I should hold

Your feet on my head

I should always

Live as your servant

The feet which came

To give mercy

They will redeem us

Once we seek them

The feet

Which walked on the waves easily

To give

Refuge to the disciples

They are the feet

Which were washed

By the one

Who realized her true nature

The feet which

Hung on the tree

In order

To protect the world

For this little boy

To show mercy

Who cannot

Understand your whole form

The feet which came

Seeking after me

To give this

Special deeksha

Mathigiri, 13-4-18, 2:50 p.m.

BT Song 865

From the morning, I was upset with God. I began to argue and then fight with Him. In the afternoon, after my regular reading of Muktiveda, I was not in the mood to pray but began to think about the way He always arbitrarily imposes His will on me—not even giving some concession at times. He never gives the kind of life that I want and always forces me to accept the life He wants me to live. As I became very upset, I vented my anger by writing this song. The kind of life that I preferred to live was the way Emily Dickinson lived—a completely reclusive life with minimal contact with the outside world. She was fortunate to live in a time where she could live the life she preferred. But along with God, the world is also forcing me to compromise with the kind of life that I want to live.

BT Song 865: No Other Means

If I ask when I need, you won’t give

When I don’t want, you won’t let me go

Not knowing my heart

You will rebuke me only

If both heart and body cooperate

There is no hurdle to toil

When along with the mind, the body also becomes tired

There is no use to ask me to toil

In order to easily accomplish

Any responsibility that you gave so far

You came to help

And made others join with me

What remained very simple

Has now suddenly become a burden

Once along with you, others also left

Suddenly it became a burden

When I tell only this

You get irritated with me

Because of that, my condition becomes

More pitiable than before

This is not new to me

Because there is no means for me to question you

Do whatever you want to do

Other than this, I have no other answer now

Mathigiri, 23-4-18, 2:10 p.m.
