BT Songs 836 to 840

BT Song 836

The longing every old person has to go away when they can manage on their own. The fear of living long, depending upon others, is an old age anxiety. As I too have that, though I ask the Lord, “How long?” there is no answer from Him. When He gives answers to so many other issues, this one He refuses to disclose.

BT Song 836: I Cannot Understand the Secret

You unloaded

What

I thought

Was a burden.

You gave

Patience

When I did

Things with much haste.

When I got frustrated

With much confusion,

By removing it,

You gave clarity.

When anger and irritation

Were boiling within,

Putting down both,

You gave peace of mind.

When emptiness

Occupied me,

Filling my mind,

You gave satisfaction.

But when I ask,

“Why any more to live?”

You refuse to give

An answer to that.

Removing the burden,

Keeping away haste,

Removing confusion,

Though you gave peace,

Till you keep me

On this earth,

Some kind of emptiness

Will be within me.

Only when I come

And reach you,

Can I find an

Everlasting satisfaction.

Till then

There is no alternative

But to live

By carrying this burden.

As you know this well,

The reason for your silence

Is the secret

Which I cannot understand.

Mathigiri, 26-2-18, 10:50 p.m.

BT Song 837

No two humans can live together without having some difference of opinion. But when it comes to the Lord, as a devotee totally surrenders to Him, though there will come some friction in that devotion too, still as they two have the same wavelength, they can walk together till the end of life. This is a strange kind of relationship and experience. Only those who have received it can understand it.

BT Song 837: Others Cannot Understand

Whatever you do,

I agree with you.

Whatever you say,

I have a heart to accept it.

Though I ask

Often small questions,

I have the nature of

Accepting your will.

You do with

Much concern

What is my

Requirement.

But knowing my

Heart’s desire,

Accepting it also,

You bestow that.

As we both have

The same wavelength,

We manage to

Walk together.

We refuse to

Allow differences of

Opinion to come

Between us.

This is also

A kind of strange relationship

Which others in the world

Couldn’t get easily.

There are no

Words to explain it.

It cannot be understood

Except by those who received it.

Mathigiri, 27-2-18, 11:10 p.m.

BT Song 838

Though old age is related to the body, a bhakta can feel young when she celebrates her bhakti in the Lord. As she can unload all her burdens on Him, in spite of the fragile nature of the body, she can feel young both in mind and spirit to rejoice always in the Lord.

BT Song 838: Young in Old Age

You help this slave

To live each day.

You help me forsake

The anxiety about tomorrow.

As you led me till yesterday,

You will take care of tomorrow.

You will help me

For the future to be like this.

But the life of youth

Has gone.

Now the time has come

To even walk carefully.

Like a calf,

So far I lived without any fear.

As usual, old age has come,

Some kind of maturity has come.

But as youthfulness

Still dwells in my heart,

Added to that,

The hope which you gave also grows.

Thinking that I will

Dance rejoicing within me,

I will unload my anxiety about tomorrow

On you.

I will live each day with you

In bhakti.

Therefore, I will live the future also

Like this.

Mathigiri, 2-3-18, 2:20 p.m.

BT Song 839

The tension in the bhakti in the Lord for a sannyasi to love and serve others while longing to renounce everything and live only for the Lord. But the Muktivedic worldview never allows for such a concept of doing bhakti by renouncing people. The only best option, even for a sannyasi, is to live by serving others as the greatest form of renunciation.

BT Song 839: A Greater Thing

There is nothing

Greater than you.

There is no means for me to live

Other than you.

I got a physical body

In order to live on this earth.

I become tired

By toiling for others.

As the atman in the body

Is longing for you,

Not having time to search for you,

I become tired.

As I live with attachment

To relatives and others,

I forgot to do bhakti

Amidst so many constraints.

Though I long to

Renounce all this,

As you refuse to give permission for that,

I accept it as your will.

But still, as a doubt

Came deep within me,

I asked the question,

“Why?”

“If you think of me as

Greater than anything else,

Then you should serve others,

Accepting them also.”

Once you told me this,

Not having any other question,

I glorified you

By doing as you said.

Mathigiri, 3-3-18, 2:50 p.m.

BT Song 840

Though we are only two—my mother and I—like other families, I too have to work a lot even for us. Added to this, the demands of other needs also consume much time. So, I miss the opportunity to spend more time with the Lord. I find some kind of satisfaction even simply sitting in the presence of the Lord—not even praying, just sitting silently thinking about Him. But I miss this kind of sadhana very much these days. As I longed to have it again, I wrote this song.

BT Song 840: Become Rare

You gave the right

For me to have fellowship with you.

You gave grace

To live within you.

By reducing the opportunity to

Talk with the world,

You gave more time

For me to have fellowship with you.

Sitting silently

At your feet,

Longing to listen

To what you would say,

Turning the heart along with the mind

In your direction,

I came seeking

Your presence.

After completing

The needs of each day,

Reducing unnecessary things

Very much,

Keeping the link with the world

A bit away,

I came seeking

Your face.

Some kind of

Satisfaction is in this.

There is sweetness

In living with you.

There is a greater

Need for this,

But it has become

Very rare to get.

I know the

Reason for that.

I came again

To tell you about it.

You should overwhelm me,

Overcoming me.

You should lead me

By taking my hand.

Mathigiri, 3-3-18, 11:15 p.m.

BT Song 836
