BT Song 871

Unable to understand the will of God in a given situation, I generally try to attempt something new. But when I fail and cannot move further, I give up and return to the Lord, proclaiming that I will hand over the responsibility of my future to Him again. But I repeat this cycle.

BT Song 871: Your Responsibility

Whatever it might be,

It is your responsibility.

I don’t have any

Special interest in it.

When I stand alone

And get frustrated,

What I need is

Your comfort.

I tried

To understand.

I managed to

Go on a new path.

Unable to

Understand your will alone,

I get

Frustrated.

Finally,

I took

A firm

Decision:

Living this day

In you,

Leaving the future

In your hands.

I won’t carry

Any more burden.

I won’t ask

Anymore with longing.

I will live

Hereafter knowing

Whatever it might be,

It is your responsibility.

Mathigiri, 2-5-18, 2:30 p.m.

BT Song 872

This song might seem to proclaim my self-righteousness in doing more than I can and the failure of others to see my suffering. But this is not limited to me. Many, like me, who keep only their interests before others, often fail to see others’ suffering in their service to us. Because we take it for granted, thinking they are obligated to do so in the name of dharma. A devotee, though never claiming to be perfect, can pray to God to gain the same nature He has, to forgive others when they fail to understand our struggle and pain in serving them.

BT Song 872: I Need Your Nature

I need to see

Your grace in this.

Who can tell

About the pain of the heart?

Whatever we might do,

Not find satisfaction in it

When others find fault in it,

Not understanding the condition of the heart.

Though we do

More than what we can do,

They never think

About our condition.

Only keeping

Their personal needs before them,

They refuse to think

About the suffering of others.

You alone can help,

Who understand that situation.

I need the humility

You possess.

I need your nature

Of forgiving,

Even though they

Killed you on the tree.

BT Song 873

Commentaries help us understand the context of the text. But commentators often go beyond, forcing us to think as they do. As most of them are theologians, their presentations, though helpful in many ways, overwhelm me as I am not prepared for it. Particularly, all the historical incidents and their backgrounds are beyond my comprehension and often seem irrational. While reading Tom Wright’s commentaries on the New Testament (particularly Romans), my intellect questioned the practical use for my life. But as the scriptures themselves say that history is not just a record of events but a vehicle of messages for us to learn from, I realized the need for those lessons in my present life, despite the seeming ‘barren’ theology.

BT Song 873: Give Up Asking Further

Somehow my mind

Refuses to accept

And asks

Many questions of me.

Whatever kind of

Answer I might give,

Refusing to accept it,

It asks the same again.

Can such things

Ever happen?

Are they

Necessary for this world?

Do we need

To understand

What happened

In the past?

In this new world,

Which searches for new paths,

Leaving behind

All that happened in the past,

When we try to

Provide ways to live

In the present

By telling about the past,

What is the

Need for all these,

As my mind

Asks again?

When I am

Confused,

What kind of answer

Can I give?

‘All that happened

Gave us lessons

To repent

And live accordingly.’

Then I realized

The truth.

After that,

I gave up asking further questions.

Mathigiri, 7-5-2018, 11:00 p.m.

BT Song 874

Another song of worship, reflecting on the grace I received from God.

BT Song 874: Thinking About Me

My heart sings

Reaching your feet,

Thinking about

The mercy that came seeking me.

Thinking about

The grace

Which I could never

Receive despite striving in many ways.

I only sought

A comfortable life,

But as I

Never knew

The means to attain it,

I came running

Again and again,

Approaching you alone,

Singing your praises.

You should

Give more

Grace, only thinking about me.

Mathigiri, 8-5-2018, 11:00 p.m.

BT Song 875

Another song of worshiping the Lord.

BT Song 875: You Should Take Me to Your Abode

When I lament,

Unable to understand,

You should come and help,

Who understands me?

When I stand still

After struggling,

O Holy One,

You should come and uphold me.

You should come

As the answer

When my mind

Is greatly confused.

When I think,

“What kind of life is this?”

You should come within me

To comfort me.

When I cannot

Understand through my intellect,

By enlightening it,

You should overtake me.

Finally, when I

Come and worship you,

You should accept

My simple devotion.

When I complete

The race of my life,

You should take me to your abode,

Which gives eternal bliss.

When I sing,

Making this your praise,

Receiving this,

You should give grace to this servant.

Mathigiri, 16-5-18, 10:30 p.m.

BT Song 871

BT Song 872
