Watch the original in Hindi even if you don’t know Hindi. (This may help some to understand the need to know Hindi in India).
A Gujarati man, after being well established in his native place, decided to extend his business and moved to the Capital to spread all over India. So he opened a small shop in front of a big departmental store in the capital. But his relatives and friends warned him not to do so as he cannot compete with such a big establishment which has been running business for several decades. But keeping his strategy clear, trusting in his talent with much confidence, he went ahead in his business. Initially the New boss of the Big Departments Store, who recently took over the charge of their FAMILY business, ignored him and even mocked him. After some time seeing his initial debacle, taking pity on him, the owner of the Departmental store even came forward to offer him work in his store or suggested that he run his branch by selling small things in his own shop. But with a smile rejecting his offer, the Gujarati continued his business. Getting irritated by his behavior, in order to finish his business, the new boss asked them to display by reducing the price of ghee to the market price to 300. Only waiting for this opportunity, Gujarati put a board in front of his shop reducing the price of one kg ghee from 300 to 280 rupees. Seeing this, the Departmental store also reduced the cost further to 250. Reciprocating the guju further reduced the price to 200. One of his neighbors and well wishers told him not to enter such a competition with the Big Store, which finally will ruin him. But being his friend the guju told the secret to his neighbor that he actually does not keep ghee in his store or sell it. Then the neighbor laughed and appreciated his strategy.
The end result is that after a few years, the guju became the owner of the Big Departmental Store and the owner of the Departmental store went back to some South Indian state where the North Indians cannot easily penetrate. Being half national and half international the New boss thought that he can easily adjust to any new situation and thought of starting a small business thinking that the same strategy of the guju will work for him. His previous staff assured him that it was not his mistake but their failure to understand and run the business counter the strategy of the guju requested him not to leave the Big business. But neither knowing the political business nor knowing the business in politics he finally decided to move with his family to the South. Whereas the guju began to expand his business in various parts of the country and decided to follow his opponent even in the South.
Surprisingly it is a strange coincidence that the name of that Gujarati is Amit Shah but his own people changed it to call him Amit Wah Wah!! Don’t read too much into this joke relating to contemporary politics in India.
NB. This English version is an adaptation of a Hindi Video received in whatsapp. In the original, the Big Departmental store came and opened in front of the Small shop and there the joke ended by saying that he never sold ghee in his shop. But stretching the story a bit using my imagination and to present it in perspective I added some more masala to it by making the Guju become an owner and the previous owner of the Departmental store moving to some South Indian state to try his luck again in the business of politics not knowing the politics in business. [Hope you manage to read inbetween lines who this politician moved to South to context election]
I still continue to laugh appreciating the sense of humor appreciating the person who made this video. We need this kind of joke to relax a bit in Indian politics.
