Secular Song 271

Secular Song 271 leisurely toil
There is no liberation for the mind
There is no holiday for toil
There is no rest for our thinking
Why do we alone need any rest?
We worn out by toiling too much
Unable to understand what does it means resting
Though all that we claiming taking rest
Also becomes another kind of toil
Somehow as we came to this earth
What is the use of lamenting about anything?
There is no alternative till the end
Other than toiling continuously
We came to this world to toil
We also grew because of other’s toil
It is sheer foolishness to say to give it up
Which won’t go away from us till the end?
We can find peace in it only when we
Consider toiling also a kind of leisure
Considering it as the only qualification
Get comfort in toiling
Mathigiri, 23-11-16, 11.10 pm.
When I visited one person’s home at Chennai long back, they all went to Mahabalipuram for a picnic leaving me alone in their house to enjoy my own time. When they returned after three days, I saw all of them tired and exhausted. Particularly the father of the children completely worn out, as he unloaded heavy suitcases with lots of sea shells. Just to tease him, I said, ‘so you had a wonderful time returning back completely exhausted.’ He, taking a deep sigh said, ‘“yes”’. What to do? Children collected so many shells from the sea shore. We know they are not useful, but they insisted on carrying them back home.’ So, they returned back with heavier luggage than what they took with them. Compared to them, I enjoyed my time without anyone around me, not even allowing the cook or servant maid to come when I stayed alone and I really relaxed more than the picnic they had. Of course, I am not against such picnics, as long as others enjoy it. But the concept of ‘rest’ and ‘relaxation’ is still remaining evasive to me. Till the end of our lives, we have to continue to toil and there won’t be any real relaxation in our life. The only way to relax is to enjoy even that toiling rather than try to run away from it and ending up with more tiring leisurely activities. What Bhagavadgita talks about Karma is worth reading and pondering.
Secular Song 272

Secular Song 272 Tomorrow’s burden
Dividing the life
In small parts
And arranging the
Works accordingly
Doing each
Part perfectly
When we live
Joy overflows
We have to
Plan about tomorrow
We take certain
Decisions for that now
But we should
Stop carrying
Its burden unnecessarily
Today itself
If we began to carry
Tomorrow’s burden today itself
And joining with it
As today’s burden also put pressure on us
Without having
Energy to carry both together
We have to
Face defeat
Only through experience
We should realize this
We should have
A heart to accept it
Whatever others might
Share about it
With one’s own mind
Should think and accept it
Mathirigi, 1-12-16, 2.45 pm.
I always divide my day in short periods and live accordingly. Even certain works I will do in small parts. Sometimes when I make some special sweet each day, I will do one process and finally complete it when I need to serve. For example, for a meeting I will fry all the ingredients to make ‘payasam’ (keer) and keep it in the fridge and on the day when I require it, I will just add water, milk, sugar etc. and boil to make ‘payasam’. Some of the pickles which I make will take more than three to fourth months to be ready for use. This helps me to live always in the present, planning for the future but not allowing it to put too much pressure on today’s work.
Secular Song 273.

Secular Song 273 A rest to the fight
You born to fight
You lived fighting
You had a life
Full of struggles
You fought many fights
For the rights of the Sri Lankan Tamilians
You fought a fight
To redeem our dear Kaveri
You also fought
To get back our right on Mullaperiyar
And you fought
Against methane gas
Single handedly
You faced so many fights
You won many fights
Unable to defeat you
But you gotta fight
With your own body
And you have done
Everything to win it too
But giving right to the
Nature to have its own course
Thinking that ‘no more fight’
Did you accept defeat in this alone?
Thinking that it is enough
Did you decide to go away?
Finally you gave
Rest to the fight itself?
Dayanand Bharati,
Mathirigi, 6-12-2016, 10.30 am
A tribute To Jayalalitha the late Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. Though she has several shortcomings still she was a fighter all through her life. But to give rest to the fight finally she has gone.
Secular Song 274

Secular Song 274 Sit silently
All the egoism have disappeared
And unnecessary anger subsided
Time has come to become like a dog
Which keeps its tail in between its legs?
Opposing everything all the time
Throwing away people mocking at them
And bragging too much
Came to an end now
Standing first for all kinds of confrontation
Dragging others also to fight
Paying the price to get disputes
All have come to an end now
Now nobody knows where I am even surviving
There is none to enquire about me
There is no shortage for the words of rebuke:
“Keep quiet eating what is provided to you”.
Once you become old, you should shut up your mouth
And should reduce all your talk
And should shut your eyes with a thought
Let anything happen—what does it matter to me
There is no substitute for this law
There is no means to escape from this
This is common for all
And realizing this site silently
Mathirigi, 8-12-16, 11.10
Another song reflecting about old age. All that one has done when he had -energy and strength, now disappears and it is time for him to keep quiet and even keep his eyes shut, not bothered too much about what is happening around him in other’s life, as he cannot do much about it.
Secular Song 275

Secular 275 Going round and round
I went to several places
And saw
I asked advice
To many people, but
Wherever I go
My shadow will follow me
I realized this
Out of personal experience
Each one has her
Life to live
There will be
Small small changes in it
Yet like the bull
Used in oil presser
There is no alternative
Except go round and round
Seeking some kind of
Changes in life
Watching the way
Others are struggling
If I too join
Them to struggle like them
What is the use
At the end in it
I should seek the
Joy of remaining silent
I should stop
Carrying this burden
I should know to abide
In the place where I have to stay
And I should
Keep quiet not talking much
Salem, 18-12-2016, 9.45 am.
After a gap of several years, I went to Salem to meet Prasad’s parents and his other family members. But all I had the same kind of rhetorical talk which I had with them in the past. Though time went, yet the issues remain the same—with new twists and more complication. If I am get entangled in it to get the same kind of life, there is no use in it. And this song reflects the mood of that thought in that day.
