Secular Song 411
When I went for my regular evening walk, I observed one old man who regularly comes to beg food in one particular house every evening. Later I came to know that he has his own family and relatives, but deserted by them, he begs for his life. Similarly, I also saw the night watchman from Nepal who comes to collect his money from each house; he has to wait for a long time even to get his regular collection (rs. Twenty per house). As I was observing them, then I thought about the plight of this life and the way people are coping with it. Then I was prompted to write this as a poem. So as usual I recorded the song on my mobile. But when I was typing it on my computer I said to myself, ‘even the life of such people becomes an inspiration for you to write about it. You should be spanked first’. Then I closed this poem with that rebuke by me.
Secular Song 411.

Secular Song 411. I should be spanked
When we see
The struggles of others
Where is the mouth
For us to even to open (to talk about our struggles)
How can I tell?
The struggles of others
Go through even
To spend one day properly
For one time food
They come and beg
And they bow before those
Who comes forward to help them?
Carrying the pain
Both in body and mind
They live like a dead man walking
Thinking about the life
Though they have
Relatives and others
And surrounded
By family and friends
By living alone
Are spending the old age
Waiting patiently
For the end to come
Even after
Observing such life
Thinking that
This life is permanent one
We can only laugh at them
Those who think like this
What else can we do?
Other than this?
And I should be spanked
As I am prompted to
Write this
Even as a poem

Secular Song 412
As I regularly say that I am writing only for my needs and only for my questions and not for others. So here also the person asking the question is me and the one who gives the answer is also me. And several times I wish, actually longing my mind to remain silent so that I need not raise unnecessary questions to me and end up giving answers to them. But as long as I have a mind, I cannot escape from it.
Secular Song 412

Secular Song 412 Don’t ask questions
Don’t ask questions
To others
And even if you ask
There is no answer—don’t forget this
They are seeking
Answer to their questions
Where will they would answer
For other questions?
As there is no means
For you to kill your time
You are asking
Unnecessary questions to others
They have no time
To answer for them
And why not you
Realize this?
Who kept you?
As the teacher for the world
And who came to you
Seeking answer (for their questions)
Thinking as a wise man
More than what actually you are
Don’t get deceive
Yourself too much
If you keep silence
By keeping your mouth shut
The answer will come automatically
Seeking your questions

Secular Songs 413
As I watched a program in which the Siddha doctor explained the need for proper sleep and how both our body and mind get affected when we don’t sleep properly I only thought about my own wretchedness as I never sleep properly. He also explained that what we need is a deep sleep and not just a nap with much disturbance both in body and mind. He also explained how such a nap will affect our body and mind and what the benefit of proper deep sleep is. He also prescribed some simple methods to get proper deep sleep and explained some dos and don’ts to get it. I was greatly benefited by that program and tried to implement a few and found it very useful. As I was thinking about it, I wrote this song about the loss that we are going to incur, even after observing life in nature which strictly follows this order of nature.
Secular Song 413
Secular Song 413What are you going to achieve?
Rest and sleep
Are medicines
And both body and mind
Need them desperately
They are
Indeed boon
To the human who become
Tired after toiling a lot
The living begins
Which accept?
This process of nature
Will live properly
When they
Disobey it
They undergo
Lots of suffering
Even after observing
Other creatures
Which one lives richly?
Following this properly
What to say
About human
Who disobeyes?
This order of nature
What are we?
Going to achieve
After paying
A heavy price for this?
Mathigiri, 2-2-18, 2.50
Secular Song 414
I always like this sloka:
–all collections end in dissolution, all tall things end in falling down, unions end in separation; life ends in death. (Mahabharata). –P. V. Kane, History of Dharma Sastra, Vol. I, Part I, p. Fn. 404. P. 372, Shanti parva 27.32, 330.20.
Though we in despair throw our hands up and consider ourselves as a victim, often as we do the same, there is no one exempted from the common truth for all. As I was reflecting about it, I wrote this poem. One way it is good if no one remains hanging around our neck. Then both the crowd and burden will become too much for anyone to carry. But one thing that I learnt is that even when we get separated it should help us to remember the golden days rather than the bitter situation which forced us to get separated. But the sad fact is that we often remember that bitter situation more than the golden days. We are WHAT WE are and we have to live with it.
Secular Song 414

Secular Song 414 Common truths
For some reason
Few came in the middle (of our life)
For some other reason
They went away
Therefore, in human life
Nobody will remain (with us)
Till the end
Of our life
Nobody is there
Not knowing this truth
Yet the bondage
Never goes easily
Though we drop
The hot pot
We never stop
Taking it again
(Handling it again)
Two helped
For our birth
Many were with us
For us to live
Even after death
Not allowing our body to get rotten
Few will come
Either to bury or burn
As so many
Came and gone
How to say
Which one will remain at the end?
As we too
Is one among them
What is the use of?
Blaming others?
We too came
In the middle (of other’s life)
We too will walk away
As we came
Once this become
Common truth (for all)
How to say
Who came in the middle of the life?
Mathigiri, 2-2-18, 11.45 pm.
Each day I read four different kinds of books (of course a few pages in each of them) that too two times in a day (afternoon and night). But some of the views presented by the authors go beyond my comprehension, though all of them are appealing to my intellect. As the issue is approached from different points of view all the views look correct. But when I read the counterviews, then I found some good points in them also. Caste and reservation based on it is one such issue. As I listened to one such debate, I was surprised by the way only told the half truth—in order to establish his point of view, how the speakers could manage to hijack even the issue completely. As I was reflecting about it I wrote this song. Not keeping a dogmatic view about any issues, we should be open to receiving counter views. At the same time without having clear understanding and personal conviction, then all the views look valid. It is very difficult to live when too many ideas are thrust upon us simultaneously when we couldn’t make our own view about it.
Secular Song 415

Secular Song 415 The need of the essentials
I fed for the
Need of my body
And thought a lot
For the need of the mind
I researched
For the need of buddhi
Then I come to
A conclusion
Though I
Fed what is required
There is no
Satisfaction in any of them
I searched
Everywhere
To find out
The reason for this
Taking pity
On my condition
Many gave
Some kind of answers
Finally
Compiling them all
Later I continued my research
Leisurely
They all gave
Some common answer
But there was
Nothing new in them
But I learnt
one thing from them
And the same I
Record here
If we do
Unnecessary research
The need of essentials
Too will become many folds
Realizing the need
If we provide limited way
Then each day life
Will go smoothly
