Song 166

166 Life like a vehicle
I try to live
On this earth
But I don’t find
Way for it
I search diligently
But it is not clear
Those who knew about it give advice
But it is not entering in my mind
Though the vehicle is mine
I don’t know how to drive
Key is in
Other’s hand
Whenever they want
They take it for driving
Only if there is place
They ask me to get in
They won’t
even consult me
before they decide
Where to go
Half way through
They ask me to get down
If I ask ‘why’
They began to fight with me
My life too became
Like that vehicle
There is no use for me
Thought I bought it
If I keep it not using
It will be rusted
And if others take for driving
It will be spoiled
What else can I do
Now beyond this?
Buying the vehicle
Became a mistake
Even if I try to sell it
No one is ready to buy it
At the same time
I don’t want keep not using it
[At the same time
I don’t want to give it freely]
When they need it
They came asking for it
After I fill the gas
They take it for driving
Let it run
As long as it will run
Let it be useful
At least for others

Song 167
I often think that my life is like a car which I own, but unable to drive. It is always controlled by others and I have no say in it. But this too is the reality of life.
167 Renunciation
Courage is need to renounce
To give up all kinds of relationship
Also to severe one’s ‘aham’ (ego)
And to deny oneself.
The true nature of ‘renunciation’
Cannot be explained through words
Those who really renounced
Won’t tell about it
(Or explained about it)
The world need not know about it
Relatives need not understand it
Even the person who renounces need not realize it
And need not communicate it to others
There is nothing to renounce
For those who (really) want to renounce
If one renounces taking efforts for that
There is no success in it (as it should come spontaneously)
Once I don’t have
The concept of ‘mine’
What is there to renounce
Not having anything as my own?
If God asks back
The life which He gave as a loan
I have no right
To say ‘no’ to Him
The life that I live (in between life and death)
Is others gift to me
So what rights I have
Even to return back to them (by renouncing anything)
In this scenario
What can I renounce?
Therefore I renounced
Even the concept of ‘renunciation’.
15-5-16, Mathigiri, 11.50 pm.
As I began to read another book on Sannyasa, I thought about ‘sannyasi’ and ‘what sannyasa’ is. Then I wrote this poem about me. For me even renouncing the very conscience that ‘I am renouncing’ should be ‘RENUOUNCED’. And that should be the true mark of a renuncer.
Song 168

168 Contradiction
Why this contradiction
Which I see in me
And struggle a lot
On one side it is sweet and another side is bitter
One thing I like and hate another one
The frustration that I have in between them
I think a lot not understanding anything properly
I don’t know whether to laugh or weep
Whether to continue or give it up
Whether to accept it or reject
I cannot find answer for this
None can understand this struggle
How much I try to communicate, others cannot understand
Which I myself didn’t understand so far
Others too cannot understand, this is the reality
I am burnt up with these unnecessary imaginations
I become tired with these unnecessary thoughts
I get perished amidst them
And try to escape from it
It is good to have both sweet and bitter
Desire and hate are part of life
We have to live only amidst them
And have to accept this reality.
20-5-16, Mathirigi, 2-10 pm.
When I notice several contradictions in me, it makes me laugh. I have no solution for this. So, till the end I have to live with it.
Song 169

169 What is the answer
Don’t run my heart; wait a little for me
Give me the answer to my question
What you have seen by constantly fighting with me
Achieving which, now you become a successful one?
If am remain inactive then you call me a lazy fellow
If I become busy, then you say don’t rush
If I keep quiet you call me ‘kusumban’@
And I began to talk then you call me chattering box.
@ One who does not respond to any kind of inquiry and keeps mum.
If I ask ‘why this much contradiction’ then
You keep quite not giving any answer
When I leave it to you to mind your own business
Then you turn back and began to fight with me
As you don’t have any kind of answer (to my question)
Finally, I found it running pillar to post
But you refuse to accept that too
At the same time, you find it difficult to give answer to my question
It is very difficult to live with you
It is mere waste of time to argue with you
It is enough, leave me alone
Somehow you continue to live and it is your funeral
Yet you won’t let me to go
You won’t allow me to live in peace
You won’t give answer to my question
You won’t allow me even to question you.
20-5-16, Mathigiri, 2-50 pm.
After writing the previous poem (168) I continue to read. But subconsciously I continue to think about the poem which I wrote. Then I asked my own mind to give the answer to so many questions that I ask to myself. That time I wrote it as a poem.
Song 170
170 No use
I realized only after receiving
That there is no use for it
Even after realizing this
I persuaded to get it
I was not ready to accept
How much it was taught to me
I refuse to stop
Whoever tries to prevent me?
A thing remained as a riddle
Before I began it
I didn’t understand (clearly)
The way I enacted my means
Somehow, I started it
Expecting something at the end
But I was disappointed
About what I finally got
I never refused to
To listen to others
I didn’t completely deny
Others approach
Yet the result is not
As I expected it
I didn’t find any use of it
After I received it
But this is not
New to me
I never mend my ways
Even after burnt my fingers
How much I tried
My character never changed
Let it be as it is
There is nothing for me to do further (to change it)

Song 170

As I read the following lines by Badrinath, ‘…Some become aware of how meaningless the aim was after they have achieved it, often at great cost to themselves and to the others.—p. 6
…For irony reveals what philosophy and history never do, or never can, the real character of a person’s truth or that of a situation. In moments of one’s awareness of the ironies of relationships, one becomes aware not necessarily of their meaninglessness but of their limits. It is then that one sees how foolish, and very often destructive, it is to attach to a relationship meaning it does not have….’ (Chaturvedi Badrinath, The Women of the Mahabharata: The question of Truth, Hyderabad, Orient Blackswan Pvt. Lit, 2008, p. 7)
Attaching any meaning to anything which it does not have, becomes a reality only after we attain it. We attach too much meaning and importance before we get a thing. But it soon disappears once we receive it (like a toy for a baby or a young person, a new gadget etc.). Then some other thing (material thing or relationship) draws our attention and we begin to attach new meaning to this. And this cycle repeats again and again. As I was thinking about it, I wrote this song.
