Song 191

191 A beggar’s mutt (choultry)
In the mutt of a beggar
No one will get some food
However, one requests
Even one morsel of food won’t be available
Though children gathered together and make a toy house
And play with toy kitchen
The (fake) food which they prepared
Will be useful to anyone
If the little children
However, scribble on the wall
Will anyone call them?
As paintings
When a lunatic
However, talk philosophically
Will there be even one
To sit and listen to him
Will you ask me too?
Without any understanding, that
Why I use
All these kinds of illustrations
I am the beggar who constructs the mutt
Preparing (fake) food in it
Drawing many paintings on its wall
Call you to listen my philosophy
I call you all
To come and be my guest to eat the (fake) food
Even if you don’t understand
What is the use of telling anymore?
I will talk many philosophies
Come and listen without fail
Come and enjoy
All my drawings

I challenged myself whether I can write a poem with some humor? And the outcome is this poem. Hope you all know the famous story about the beggars who planned to construct a ‘mutt’ for them.
This is the story: as the beggars have no other work, in order to kill their time one day, they gathered together and said how nice it will be if they too have their own ‘mutt’ (choultry)? Then they formed a committee and began to plan the construction. When they were discussing some quarrel also came about where to keep the kitchen and who will be in-charge of the store room etc. Finally, one old beggar, who didn’t join them, said, ‘ok, it is time for us to go to beg. Otherwise, people will wash the vessel and shut the door’. Then all abandoning their dream project took their vessel and went on their own way to collect their dinner.
Song 192

192 Humanitarianism is dead
What to tell about this cruelty
To whom shall I tell this
What to say about those people
Who went away without having even slight mercy?
Thinking that this happened to someone
None has raised their voice
Though many were waiting there
None showed any compassion
Many commuted with her each day
But they didn’t show any compassion
There is not a single ‘Human’
Rush to help her
There was not a single ‘man’ to chase
The person who killed her
None even thought to rush to help
The wounded Swati who was lying down
Humanitarianism too died
Along with that girl
The blood which she shed
Remains as a witness for this
Let the death of Swati
At least help again
To revive that humanitarianism
Which is killed along with her
29-6-16, Mathigiri, 11.30 pm.
As I was thinking about the way Swati’s co-passengers and others who were present on both sides of the plot form, I wrote this song. Sometimes it is discouraging to think of the way humanitarianism is eroded in the mad rush of life in modern times. Let that humanitarianism get a new lease of life by this sacrifice of Swati. I dedicate this song to her and her parents. Swati, while waiting to board the train to go to her work, was killed by one boy in front of everyone. This is not a unique incident. In recent times so many young girls were murdered in broad daylight in front of so many people, but in most cases none rushed to help. And even when one or two tried, others didn’t cooperate with them.
Song 193
193 Who am I?
Who shall tell to whom?
To whom I shall tell
I scribbled something
To tell to myself
I don’t know
What I want to share
Words forming
Come as they like
In between
I remain only as an instrument
I understand this alone
Very clearly
Mind is thinking
Something on its own
Heart is going
Along with it
In between them
What can “I” say?
I don’t know
To whom shall I ask
Is ‘mind’ and ‘heart’
Remain separated
Is there something called “I”
Remain separated from them?
All the three combining together
Play this drama
They sit together
Watch themselves
They write the drama
Also act in it
Sitting as the audience
They also watch their own drama
Am “I” sitting?
Along with them
This one I cannot
Understand till this day
Cannot someone
Who know this can help me
Cannot they give
Answer to this question?
Mathirigi, 2-7-16, 2.00 p.m.
Again, when the inspiration came, I said to myself, ‘No more poems. I’ve become tired of this. To whom I shall write and what I shall write. Is it my mind or heart or “I” which is writing?’ Sometimes I experience the way the words will come automatically and compel me to write them down. Though in a few poems I had struggled to find proper words, in most of the poems, even before I write down one line the next line will automatically form in my mind.
So, when I began to analyse this today, I tried to differentiate the role of my buddhi, heart and I. Several times I strongly believed that it is our buddhi which plays these entire multiple roles, using these terms that we continue to express ourselves. As I cannot come to any conclusion, then I wrote this song asking someone to give that answer to me.
Song 194

194 Need conviction
Each one has her own opinion
Each one will have their own principle
(So) we cannot accept what others say
At the same time, we cannot reject it completely
When there is no place for other’s opinion
Who can decide which one is correct or not
We should think soberly
To compare our principles with other’s views
Who will come to watch?
If we call to see a white crow
If one thinks that her own opinion is final one
Who can understand the truth till the end?
(But) those who say all the opinions are good
Will never understand even one properly
(So) keeping a firm personal opinion
It is better to research other’s views
Dead fish will go along with the water
Living fish alone swim across the current
Which fish we will become
Will be decided by our own personal principles
Thinking that we should go along with others
Will become a snare at the end
At the same time opposing just for the sake of opposing
Will make it difficult to reach a conclusion in the end
When required we need to go along with the current
When time has come, we should swim across the current
The fish which will try to escape when get washed
Alone will manage to survive safely till the end

As I am reading a book on Gita Press (Akshaya Mukul, Gita Press and the making of Hindu India, Noida, HarperCollins Publishers India, 2015) I amazed the way Sri Hanuman Prasad Poddar (the chief editor of Kalyana and the person behind Sri Jaydayal Goyandka for the success of Gita Press) managed to influence various scholars, who even didn’t agree with its principle to write for the magazine (Kalyana and Kalyana-Kalpataru). Whether we agree with him or not, the way he stood on firm ground on his conviction inspired me much and after reading a few pages when I was reflecting about it, I wrote this song.
Song 195
195 My (own) world.
I created a world
Within me for my own need
I am
Living in it (comfortably)
When I come out
To see outside
I rush back
Inside it again
As there is none
To oppose me
How much peace
Prevails there?
Yet small small
Contentions come
Who could be
The reason for that?
As I am the Master
Also the slave
That could be
One reason for that
There is
None
To resolve
The contentions between us
Therefore, even the
Small disturbances
In the end
Becomes a great crisis
But as we
Understood our situation
The crisis
Will come down on its own
As the Master
And the slave reconciled
The peace will
Come back as before
How much joy
Comes
When I live
In this world
Yet this too
Is not permanent
This is true
What else can I say?
Because this
Imaginary world
Is like a bubble
On the water surface
Though it disappears
In the same speed as it appeared
Yet appearing often
It will give comfort to me
If that world
Does not exist
My condition
Would become wretched
How good it is
To have
The right
To create my world
When I need
I will create it
Once it served its purpose
I will close it
3-7-16, 2.55 pm. Mathigiri
After reading few more pages in the book: Hindu Christian Faquir (Timothy S. Dobe, New York, Oxford University Press, 2015), on the life and writings of Rama Tirtha and Sadhu Sunder Sing, who (like Swami Vivekananda) tried to address two kinds of audience—one in the west and another in India, I said to myself, ‘I am fortunate, as I need not address to any one or impress anyone. I write mostly for my need. I am happy to live in my own little world, where I am very comfortable.’ Of course, though my little inner world is a temporary phenomenon, yet I can create it whenever I want to hide from the real world and can close it when it served its purpose. As I was thinking this, I wrote this song.
