Song 206 Youthhood
Youth hood is a transient phase in life
With the blink of eye, it will disappear soon
All that is done with the spirit of youth hood
Will one day return violently?
Thinking non-permanent ones as permanent
Becoming emotional only thinking about them
Roaring like the wave in the sea
Unable to reach the shore at the end
Losing oneself by often stumbling
Spoiling the peace of those who live with them
Like a deer which chases a mirage
Will be trapped at the end
Not having a stable mind and losing self-hood
Giving up goal and losing enthusiasm
Stumbling often in the way they run
What is the use of become a problem for themselves
Youth-hood is really a blessing
If handled properly it would bring many blessings
Like sowing the seed in proper season
If they handle the youth-hood properly, everything will become a blessing
1-8-16, Mathigiri, 6.00 pm
Youth hood is both a blessing and a challenge. When used properly they can achieve great things in life and bring blessing to so many people in their life. But carried out by mere emotions and physical instinct, if they remain careless, the end result will be a great tragedy to them and others, particularly to their family members. The recent incidents of so many killings out of one-sided love and other things done by the youths are a warning for all of us to reconsider our approach to these issues. Of course, like others I too have only questions without any solution. Though the society as a whole has to accept its responsibility, it has to begin first from the parents.
Song 207

Song 207 What can we say?
What can we say about those who
By losing one self and there by losing the very life
Caught in shame and spoiled by it
What can we say about that person who is miserable?
They took bold step
Without thinking a bit about the consequence
Then they lament with much pain
Drowning in the ocean of sorrow
As they went astray as per their passion
They brought much pain to so many others
Along with them
They threw others too in the ocean of sorrow
Along with passion they need bit rationality
Should think about the result before act
Should remove the foolishness of
Buying painting by selling one’s own eyes (sight)
But they should stop
Justifying their mistake
Should repent and
Try to live rest of the life soberly
They should strive to
Get back the lost life
And for this they should
Cooperate with others too
I am sharing this truth
As I understood it
I am sharing this
Only through the lessons that I learnt from my life
Mathigiri, 1-8-16, 11.30 pm.
When I heard about a sad incident that happened in our distant relative’s house, I felt very sorry for them. This could have averted if the concerned person was a bit wise, or at least reached immediately after being affected. After a great loss, severe pain for all and great humility, they now try to seek remedy. There is no remedy for such incidents in life. What is lost is lost. The only remedy is to learn from the mistake and need to press forward to do the best for the rest of the life.
Secular 208

Song 208 Don’t confront
How long we can confront
With whom we can do that
Once we realized that
It is no more possible for us
Like that dog
Which kept its tail in between its legs?
We too will move
Silently leaving them
Though we want to confront them
With much anger
Yet the result will be
With the side of the mighty
When one does not have one’s own means
And the support of the others
Decide to confront is
Merely a waste of time.
Who thinks about it?
Dharma or adhamra
Once ‘might is right’
Becomes the law of the day
Learning the lesson
Through that loss
Never repeat
The same mistake again
Not confronting
Unnecessarily
If we learn to live with what comes
We can somehow spent the day peacefully
Mathigiri, 2-8-16, 2.30
I bought one exercise instrument which I found very useful for my back pain. It has a one year warranty period and two years of service period. But recently one important part broke and I duly informed the company. They promise to send the replacement, in spite of my repeated mails, they only buy time by writing back they don’t have the spare at present and trying to get it. Sometimes I was tempted to go to the Consumer Court against them. But knowing the way our legal systems work in our country I know that in the end justice won’t be done to me. Merely I have to waste my time and energy in fighting such vain battles against Corporate and Legal systems in our country. When it mighty become right, the sober thing is to accept the loss, learn the lesson and keep quiet. The Consumer Courts don’t work as it is promoted by the government.
NB. Finally I got the replacement when I threatened to go to the Consumer court, sending the draft letter which I wrote to the company.
Secular Song 209

Secular Song 209 Burry within you
Keep and lock within yourself
Bury it in yourself
There is no use in telling the world
There is no profit for you also
Can you understand?
Other’s burden easily
Without thinking properly
Can you gossip about it?
Don’t blow it out of proportion
When you hear about it feebly
Don’t give solution to it
Unless they seek it from you
Something went wrong
A mistake have taken place
But don’t blow it more
By pouring more oil on the fire
If possible, give some comfort
Try to cover it
In the name of unloading their burden
Don’t increase more than that
Mathirigi, 2-8-16, 1.30 pm.
Recently one sad incident happened in one of our distant relative’s houses. When they visited us, they shared about it with much pain. After they left I both requested and warned my mother not to share this with others in her talk with them over phone or during any personal visit. There is no point in spreading such sad news unnecessarily even to create sympathy in others mind about them. Fortunately, till this day, I keep several such incidents which I shared with me very secretly. I won’t even write them down in my diary as I don’t want to believe in making out with others. The human tendency is that in order to express our pity for them, we unnecessarily create more pain to them by spreading such news, which we need to avoid.
Secular Song 210

Secular Song 210 Let him be safe
Let him be there
Enjoying safely
Let me be here
Living alone
He said that
He will come back soon
How many promises
He gave too?
Did he get any new companion
In that new place
Did he forget this innocent one
Is it true?
Whatever may be my pain?
What does it matter for him anymore?
Once he forgot me
What is the use of sending some messenger?
Tell him that
Let he be safe
I will spend my days
In his memory
Will I forget him
As he has done
Can I abandon him?
As he has done to me
Don’t hurt me
With thundering words
Once knowing my heart
Don’t say anything more
Once the boat is
Capsized in the middle of the river
Don’t ask the fair
For the half way journey
Mathigiri, 3-8-16 2.10 pm.
This is again a song inspired by Surdas. As I liked the last line of this song, it made me laugh after reading it. It is a good illustration to express one’s plight in life, particularly in viraha bhakti. Inspired by that line, I wrote this song. Similar kinds of songs are quite common in Sangam and other Tamil literatures.
Here is Sur’s song:
Honeybee, don’t urge on us something alien.
Now that the Passion of Braj has been stolen,
no one here can talk or hear or think.
We know the news, and we’re happy to learn
that his family’s anguish is forgotten.
It’s good he has good company, good his mind’s improved,
Good he’s introduced to the best society, (p.455)
but to us the sweetness of his story is bitter,
and your counsel is a stab at our hearts.
Sur says, It all turns justice upside down—
exacting a ferry tax from victims swept downstream!— Sur’s Ocean: Poems from the Early Tradition, ed. Kenneth E. Bryant. Trns. John Stratton Hawley, Cambridge, Murty Classical Library of India, 2015, pp. 455 & 57 [page 56 is Hindi original] As the poem is very beautiful in Hindi also, I share that also:
