எண்ணிதான் பார்க்கிறேன் என் மனதை
எழுதித்தான் பார்க்கிறேன் எண்ணங்களை
ஏதுமே சரியாகப் புரியவில்லை
எழுதியே காட்டிட மொழியும் இல்லை
நல்ல வேளை பிறர் தப்பிவிட்டார்
நன்றாக என்னையும் புரிந்து கொண்டார்
அதற்காக நான் சும்மா இருக்கலாமா
அடுத்தவர்க்காக என்னை மறுக்கலாமா
எத்தனையோ முறை சொல்லிப் பார்த்தேன்
எனக்குத் தெரிந்ததை எழுதி பார்த்தேன்
சொன்னதை மீண்டும் சொல்லி வைத்தேன்
சொல்லிட புதிதாக ஏதும் இல்லாமலே
சொல்வதைக் கேட்டிட யாரும் இல்லை
சொன்னாலும் கேட்டிட நேரம் இல்லை
அந்தத் துணிவால் கூறி வைத்தேன்
அதனாலே இப்பாடல் எழுதி வைத்தேன்

அத்துடன் நேரமும் விரயமாச்சு
படித்தவர் நிலையோ பாவமாச்சு
படிக்க மறுத்தவர் தப்பியாச்சு

ஏனென்றால் தப்பிக்க வழியே இல்லை
என்னை விட்டு ஓட இயலவில்லை
இதற்கு வழி இருந்தால் சொல்லிடுவீர்
எந்நிலை புரிந்து இரங்குவீர்
இல்லையென்றால் உம்மை விடவேமாட்டேன்

ஆறுதல் கூறிட மொழியும் இல்லை
அடுத்தவர் புரிந்திட வழியும் இல்லை
தேறுதல் தந்திட தெய்வமும் இல்லை
தெளிவற்ற வாழ்விற்கு முடிவும் இல்லை
தொடங்கிய பயணமும் தொடர்கின்றது
தொடர்பற்று தன் போக்கில் போகிறது
எதை எதிர்பார்த்து என்ன செய்வது
ஏமாற்றம் ஒன்றுதான் மிஞ்சியது
வருவது வரட்டும் என் செய்வது
என்று முடிவுக்கு வந்த பின்னே
யோசித்துப் பார்த்துமே என்னாவது
பேசியே பார்த்தாலும் புரியாதது
ஆறுதல் ஏதுமே தேவையும் இல்லை
ஆதரவு தேடி அலையவும் இல்லை
தன்னுள்ளே தானே ஒடுங்கிய பின்
யாரிடம் சொல்லியும் பயனும் இல்லை
எதிர்பார்த்து வாழ்வது தவறானதோ
எதிர்பார்ப்பு என்பதும் தவறாகுமோ
எதிர்பார்ப்பே தேவை இல்லை யென்றால்
புவிமீது வாழ்வதால் பயனும் உண்டோ
இந்த முடிவுக்கு வந்தவர்க்கு
என்னிடம் பதில் கூற ஏதுமில்லை
அவர் மீது தவறு ஏதுமில்லை
அவரின் கேள்விக்கு பதிலும் இல்லை
ஆயினும் அவர் மட்டும் தனியாக இல்லை
அவர்போல் வாழ்வோர்க்கு குறைவும் மில்லை
அவரின் வாழ்வே பதிலான பின்னே
இதுபோன்ற கேள்விக்கு இடமும் மில்லை

212 There is no place for question
There are no words to console (them)
Others don’t have means to understand them
Even there is no God to give comfort to them
There is no end to their purposeless life
The life goes one which began on some point
It goes on its own course without having any purpose
What is the use of having any kind of expectation?
Once disappointment is there at the end
‘Let things come as they, what else we can do’
Once they come to that stage
What is the use of thinking further (about life?)
There won’t be any clarity even if we talk about it
There is no need for any comfortable words (in their life)
They never seek any support further in life
Once they shrink within themselves
There is no point of sharing with others
Is it wrong to live with some expectation?
Will it be a crime to have any expectation
If there is no requirement for expectation
Is there is purpose to live on this earth
I have no answer
To those who come to this conclusion
We cannot even blame them
We don’t have any answer to their question
But they do not live all alone
There are plenty who live like them
Once their life itself come the answer
There is no place for such question like this

The Tamil proverb says, ‘in time sow the seed’ (பருவத்தே பயிர் செய்). Some people, not doing certain things in the stipulated period of their life, later regret the way they remained indifferent to the crucial decisions which they failed to take in time. For example, if a student, not paying attention to the study and not taking it seriously, has to pay a heavy price later in life. Though others feel sorry for them and sympathize with them, yet they cannot do much. There is no point of blaming God either. At the same time, according to my understanding their life is not gone as mere waste. At least others can learn a lesson from them. In this sense instead of getting answers to so many questions in their life, their life itself becomes an answer for several questions in life, particularly when one fails to make a decision at the proper time in life. The context of the song is when one person called and cried when the circumstances forced him to live as ‘Single’. He wanted to marry, but couldn’t do it for so many reasons. When finally he was ready, it was too late. When he called and cried, unable to comfort him much, I only said there is no answer to certain questions in life, when you missed the opportunity when it knocked giving various reasons. But your life is not a waste, as itself stands as a teaching to many.’

213 Don’t ask questions
Don’t imagine unnecessarily (about others)
Don’t ask unnecessary questions (about them)
Don’t seek the answer which does not exist
Even don’t write down this too (as a poem)
They have thousands of works to do
Why you bother about it
Do they remain idle like you?
As they run pillar to post without having time (for anything)
They don’t have time to think about themselves
Unable to accomplish their own job
They run with much frustration
Poor ones, what else can they do?
Do they seek any help from you?
Do they depend upon you
Think that blessing (as they don’t trouble you)
And shut up your mouth.
Don’t ask thousands of questions to them
As if you have concern for them
When they are searching answer to their own questions
What kind of answer they can give to your questions
When the snake asked the eagle “how are you doing”
It response by saying, “all will remain safe in their own place”
Do you understand this truth?
And do you catch what I try to say (to you)
Don’t keep the (ஓணான்) the (Agamid) lizard
That lives on the fence in your boosome
and then don’t complain
that it gives you trouble

As I was concerned about one person, I wrote to her/him about the lack of communication from him/her. Then I received the mail that he/she is as usual very busy and tries to keep in touch with few. As I was thinking about his/her life, rebuking myself said, ‘don’t imagine about others too much and don’t ask too many questions about their life’. My eldest brother who passed away never wrote any letter to our parents when he lived separately before his marriage. When my mother often questioned him about this, he used to say, ‘if no letter comes from me, then it means that I am fine. Why should I write a letter saying everything is fine with me’. The modern scenario is that if there is no communication from others, it means that they are too busy or in good condition.
The story in the last but one stanza is this:
When the snake resting on the neck of Shiva asked the eagle, which is its sworn enemy, how it is doing, the eagle responded, ‘everyone is fine as long as they remain in their secured place’. As the snake asked the question to tease the Eagle, it gave a fitting response to the snake.
The final stanza is a Tamil proverb. Only Tamilians can understand its full implication.

வசதிக்கு தகுந்த ஆட்டம் ஆடணும்

214 When you are alive, give in charity
We should behave according to our age
We should display according to our ability
We should have relationship with others as they deserve
We should not do anything for others to appreciate us
We should have compassion on the poor
We should help them considering their poverty
Not saving what is beyond our requirement
We should have a clear mind to live (accordingly)
Don’t save for an unknown person
Don’t allow it to be looted by someone
Having compassion on those who live with you
Don’t hesitate to share a bit out of it
Once we are gone, the wealth is going to someone
Will it become less if you share before you pass away?
Once you are gone, they won’t even remember your name
But if you give while you are alive, they will remember you
Giving for fame is wrong
Doing charity to earn merit is a crime
While the needy are before your eyes
It is wrong to accumulate beyond your requirement

One elderly couple, who have plenty of money, recently bought a costly diamond jewel for four and half lakhs. When she showed it to me, I didn’t say much and only said that it looks beautiful. But inside me I felt very sad about such a waste of money, that too in this old age, as they don’t have any children either. If it is a mere gold jewel there will be some value to it, but such diamond jewels are a mere waste as it is not even a worthy investment. When I shared about this to another person, I said that money could have been given in charity or used for some other noble purpose than in such extravagance.

போராட்டம் அன்றி வாழ்வும் நகராது
புலம்பித் தவித்தாலும் மாற்றேதும் கிடையாது
புதையுண்டு கிடந்தாலே முன்னேற முடியாது
புரிந்துதான் சொல்கிறேன் போராடப் புறப்படு
கருவினில் உருவான போராட்டம் என்பதால்

Song 215 Struggles
Life won’t move without struggle
There is no alternative to this however we lament (about it)
One cannot make progress if remain buried (because of it)
Get up and march, I tell this only after realizing (about it)
As struggle began when we were formed in the womb
Till the end (of life) where is the means to escape from it?
Are you the one who born to struggle
Can you live without any struggle
Though the struggle with others might come to an end
There won’t be any end for the struggle that one has with herself
Though a solution can be worked for the struggles among human
In no way we can bring an end to the struggle of mind
Once struggle become part of life
Everywhere in the world
Where else can you run to escape from it?
It is impossible even if you wish, I tell this with experience
Either victory or defeat, whichever it might be
Both won’t come together for you
There is no history in which
One has attained victory without any defeat
Don’t get depressed only thinking about the defeat
Make it as a stepping stone for success
Once you attained success, not becoming proud
Often touch the scars of defeat in life.

Again a problem came in one family as the girl wanted to marry the boy whom she loves but others in the family opposed it. This issue often comes and constantly disturbing the peace in his entire family. As her sister became very depressed I counselled her and said that till the end we all need to face some kind of struggle in life. And as a joke I said to her, ‘your real innings has not yet started. Get married and then will know how to face all kinds of balls’. After writing this song I shared it with her.
