Secular Songs 221 to 225

Secular Song 221

Song 221 Time to go to bed

Good or bad

The days are running

Loss or profit

The life is moving

In between

Some drama is staged

At the end

That character also disappears

Who wrote that drama?

We don’t know till the end

What is our role?

Nobody knows that

When we need to act

That too is not informed

Why should we act?

That is not clear to anyone

The story remains

The same till the end

It continues

From time in memorial

In the middle

Only the role is changed

But there is none

To watch till the end

I have done

This day’s role

I acted

As much I know

We can watch

Tomorrow’s part

For that I need some strength

Therefore, it is time to go to bed

Mathirigi, 20-8-16, 11.50 pm.

After my regular reading, I sat for meditation. That time I recalled the entire day’s activities.  There is no change in my routine life. Both for me and my mother, each day goes as if it is programmed already (eternally).  Then I thought about life in general. It goes as if it is scripted by someone. But we don’t know who the author is. The same story repeats eternally and we do our part not knowing our role properly or when we need to act. Suddenly the scene changes and we are called to act.  But it is the same drama, the same role and same conclusion. Fortunately, none of us remain permanently to see the end.

When I tried to close the poem, I realized that once I have done my part today, I need to go to bed and regain my strength to perform on the stage and with that note I closed the poem.

Secular Song 222

Song 222 Should know one’s limitation

When we point out others mistakes

We should also consider the good things in them

When we rebuke other’s short temper

We should also add bit compassion with it

Only if we began to see the mistakes in others

Then it will become a shortcoming to us

Once we began to accuse others

Anger alone will increase within us

Before we rebuke others

We should know our own limitation

We must also consider that

With how much concern that we do it

Those who thinks negatively

Only will find fault in others

In order to say something

They will exaggerate and accuse

Before you give counsel

You should also take responsibility for that

If you hesitate to take responsibility

You should stop fault finding

It is very easy to say something

Without any real commitment

Those who cannot make any commitment

Will remain patience knowing their own limitation

Mathigiri, 21-8-2016, 3.00 pm and 11.30 pm

Critiquing is completely different from criticism.  Critiquing others, particularly others writing on some points on which we don’t agree is completely different than criticising it just for the sake of criticism. I consider it even as fault finding.  Mere fault finding will blind our eyes to see other good things which are communicated in that writing.  But the spirit of fault finding will finally become a problem to us and will stop us from counting all the good things in others life and writing.  I also see that while critiquing accepting personal responsibility also tries to prescribe alternative views, fault finding only will accuse without giving proper solution or accepting personal responsibility.  If we don’t have time or interest to prescribe a solution to any of our critiquing, it is better for us to avoid even doing that than merely criticising others just for the sake of fault finding.

As I write I know that what I write as a comment is also a kind of fault finding than true critique on such fault finding.  Keeping myself in both camp—a critique and fault finder, I share this.

Secular Song 223

Song 223 We should take the whip

There is no other way to live

Except by behaving by giving and take

There is no means to change

If one reacts in anger

‘I will take revenge

I won’t rest till that time’

When a fool says like this

There is use in giving advice to him

There is no point of talking with a fool

Who neither live

Nor allows

Others to live

We need to take the whip

When the fools is not listening any advice

We should realize that

A monkey will dance only when stick is taken (by the trainee)

 ‘like punishment even

Brother won’t be useful’

Told the noble person

Because of the experience

We should realize that

Undisciplined child

Untrimmed tree

Won’t be useful to anyone

We need not punish them by taking a stick

We need not torture them

Just if we boycott them for sometime

A way will come for them to understand

There is no alternative for us

To leave the fool

Who does not

Repent till the end

22-8-16, Mathigiri, 11.10 p.m.

I know one boy whose sister married against the desire of her mother.  But she married a boy from their own community.  But as the mother cannot forgive her, always creates problems for her son-in-law by scolding him in abusive language.  So yesterday when she again scolded him and spit on his face, he hit her back as he is very short tempered.  When the woman insisted her son to give a complaint to the police, hide the fact that she is the one who first provoke, he with much hesitation agreed for this.  When this matter came to me, I told him that don’t believe her mother’s word as the gospel truth and if complaints then the police will make a clear inquiry and as we all know her nature and temperament, soon will find that she alone provoked her son-in-law first.  So in front of her son I called his brother-in-law and enquired.  He narrated what happened.  However, my son-in-law said that being a mentally sick person, he should learn to ignore her and even go further to forgive her.  ‘Hitting her back, you didn’t show your courage.  Fighting back with those who are not your equal—weak both in body and mind demonstrates your weakness rather than strength.  Above all, if you behave like her, then it will only aggravate the pain to your wife, brother-in-law who are innocent’.  Agreeing with my counsel, he called his brother-in-law and asked him to forgive him.  Accepting my advice the boy also decided not to go to the police.  But later I told him that though the present crisis is temporarily averted, yet it won’t bring permanent solution to his mother’s mental problem. So, it is time for him to take some strong steps to tell her clearly that her attitude and approach towards her daughter and son-in-law should change or she must be ready to face the consequences.  I even advised him not to use physical force to punish her, but give her a long robe and keep some distance from your mother for some time, at the same time take care of her needs.  All their relatives also become tired of leaving her daughter in peace to live with her husband and mind her own life. But she is not ready to listen to anyone and nurture her vengeance.  This is the context of this song.

Secular Song 224

Song 224 Confusion

They play with thousands of words

Say many things as they like

In-between they parade their knowledge

Finally, what do they try to communicate to us?

Analysing properly and thinking deeply

Then organizing their thought in a systematic way

Using proper terms they write

In order to help us to understand them

Unable to ignore their views completely

At the same time unable to understand it properly

How many like me confused

We search answer for that

Looking for some result we thought

That it is good to stop reading for some time!

As we cannot stop thinking completely

Realized that there is no point of stop reading

Even those who do not have the habit of reading much

Also confused by listening and hearing a lot

Though we become blind and duff (after reading and listening all)

We continue to live with lots of confusion

Finally, what is the solution for this?

What is the means to escape for some people like me

Once we stop asking so many questions

The confusion itself will go automatically

Where is the answer for all the questions (in life?)

So many questions become the very answer

First, we should know them properly

Then we can go for the next question (like this)

24-8-16, Mathirigi, 11.45 pm.

Some writers are very good at presenting their view by using clever words that will force us to agree with them, though we cannot accept their view. This is not limited only to writing. Even in several panel discussions the way they present their views will make us reconsider our view, though we find it difficult to accept them.  But when we take our own time to reflect, then we are more confused—neither able to ignore them, nor able to agree with them.  For me the real answer to several questions is the very question itself.  Once we begin to understand this—particularly the question itself first, then we can go for the answer and next question. For example, what is the solution to the Kashmir issue?  As an outsider to Kashmir, at the same time as an Indian, I never understood the very question of Kashmir issue. Then along comes to accept other’s solution to this unresolvable problem created by politicians.

 Secular Song 225

Song 225 Maturity

There is no use

Even by learning many things

Where there is no

Maturity in the heart

We cannot win anyone

Through our words

Once there is no

Maturity in our talk

There is no use

In using too much talk

No loss will incur

If we keep quite

Whatever we talk

We should have clarity in it

Along with it

There should be humbleness

If we want to win

We should give up

And try to change others

Through slow persuasion

But they won’t come

Once there is lack of maturity

That won’t come

By mere reading many things

If we despise

What experience teaches?

Then we will never

Get maturity at anytime

30-8-16, Mathigiri, 2.55 pm.

Maturity never comes because of too much reading or advancing in age alone. Several times better keep quite than talk too much to change the perception of others on several issues.  If we want to change the perception of others on certain issues, we should talk less and try to change it slowly than to do it drastically.  Of course, this maturity also will come only through experience.###
