Secular Song 266

Secular Song 266 The dog which chased the car
There is none like me
Who is very fortunate?
There is no point in
You regretting about it
I have analysed completely
And know that
By knowing the depth alone
We should step in (side the water)
There is no use in
We too do the same
Like the dog
Which chases the car?
Will he stop the car?
And stone the dog
Or will he drive his car
Minding his own business
In order to choose
We should search many paths
But to get clarity
We should follow one clearly
There is no point
In searching superficially
There is no use in
Often changing the path
Knowing this clearly
I run so far
And finally
I choose one path clearly
Noting my example
You should know this
And should try to
Live like this

Recently I was involved in a dialogue with a young person who always asks very sharp and profound questions. Such questions actually help me to reflect on my own life and assess it properly. In one of his questions, he said that like a stray dog which chases every car, he is doing the same. When I read it I began to laugh as that too was my own experience in my youth. That time, in our street the two dogs which chase every car that passes them began to bark and chase another car. Then using his words and relating it with the incident which happens every night in our street I wrote this song. The following is the question and answer:
Question: I am in a pursuit of enlightenment. So far I have been a stray dog chasing after every car on the road that claims enlightenment. I believe in the fact that one has to look at all roads when he doesn’t know which road takes him to his destination. So, I am very receptive to the words you say.
DB: Regarding ‘one has to look at all roads when he doesn’t know which road takes him to his destination’, I completely agree with you. But some people till the end of their life continue to chase all the cars which do not even claim any enlightenment but promise to provide some ‘instant bliss’ for a cost. So, after some initial persuasion, when any one path gives some hope or which best suits our aptitude, we should give some time to further travel in it, then chase every car—as the dogs return back to their place after chasing a few distance and get ready to chase another car. After some time, they become tired and go to sleep, allowing other cars to pass without being chased by them, as many dogs in our street do the same every night.
The moral of this story is: search some path. Then when you are convinced that that will best serve your purpose, give some time to probe it deeply rather than superficially attempting to know something from everything. Particularly in spirituality, ‘Sradha’ faith/trust is the first step that will help any aspirant, then continue to probe till the end of the life. Otherwise, we will become ‘jack of all trades.’
Secular Song 267

Secular Song 267 I become a lesson to others
There should be clarity
In mind each day
And I should be mended
In life too
If I constantly
change my decision each day
Finally, I have to
Face the trouble
Once I have
Clarity about my aim
It will come
Quickly also in my mind
If I constantly
Change my aim
Confusion will come
Automatically in my mind
Though I often faced trouble
I never repented
I never felt sorry
For that even a bit within me
I never counted
All my losses
I didn’t find
Any means to get changed
But there is some
Good in this
And my life became
A lesson for many
I comforted myself
Thinking it
Therefore, I continue to live
As ever before.
Mathigiri, 19-11-16, 11.10
One constant problem that I am facing in my life is the way I quickly change my decision and pay heavily for that. Though I tried my best, I cannot overcome this so far. But I console myself that at least others can learn from my life not to do the same.
Secular Song 269.

Secular Song 269. Unchanging change
When something happens that we don’t like
We have to accept it silently
If we oppose it adamantly
A time will come when we have to step back
If there is no opposite opinion
Nobody’s view will become useful
And those who share the opposite views
Are not our enemies and we should realize this
There will come a time
When none will accept our view
And what can we do that time, realizing it
We should listen to others view now
What we hold today as our principle is not eternal
It might be changed tomorrow
So let us not hold any principle as permanent
Based on the thought that never remains permanent
What we desire is not permanent
And which we don’t like may be changed
In the uncertain life which alone is certain
“Change” is the only unchanging concept
Mathgiri, 22-11-16, 2.10
We all know the famous saying that “change is the only permanent thing”, I wrote this song reflecting on the recent developments that are happening in our circle.
Secular Song 270

Secular Song 270 Don’t cross your line
He found some peace in it
And found some comfort for him in it
Others have no right to
Mock it by any means
His life is crippled
The occasion for joy becomes limited
Yet the way he learnt the art of living
In it becomes his talent
He drew a circle around him
Narrowed down his boundaries
And found so many meaning in it
By rejoicing in it
Not accepting this and
Thinking that you are going to help him
Spoiling the peace of both is
Unacceptable by any reason
Each one has the right to
The principle of his own life
It is better to accept it
And live each one’s life as it is
Mathigiri, 22-11-16, 11.10 pm.
This is my constant theme about which I often contemplate: “No one lived above her own creed”. And some change that creed (principle) for so many reasons and narrow down their life by drawing circles around them and boundaries for others not to cross. Those who are close to her and also the near and dear ones, should not interfere in her life thinking that they want to help her to come out from that narrow circle by crossing that line. If she manages to find peace and joy within her changed creed, then others have to leave it as it is and learn to live each one’s life accepting each other as they are. Otherwise, both will lose their peace of mind.
The world is so big to seek others to serve and let others serve one celebrating relationship. Or one can narrow down her life within a limited circle and enjoy it. It is left to each individual to decide and we all have to respect that personal freedom—even to celebrate relationships in this way too.
