Secular Song 326

I have become a bit tired as I have done too much work today. So, unable to read or to meditate I retired to bed early by 10.30. But I cannot sleep. So I began to think about various philosophical/theological questions that I confront in life. As I began to reflect on them, I realized that I am asking questions which are either not clear or there is no answer. And I ask the question to the people who are not actually listening. As inspiration came, I got up from bed and wrote this song and went to bed with the satisfaction that at least I need not search for the answer which actually does not exist. But asking questions will never come to an end.
Secular Song 327 We should think
We should never forgot
What others went through for us?
We should often remember
All the sacrifices that they have done for us
None is there without having selfishness
There is no life without selfishness
Yet we should often remember
The cost that others paid for us
However small it might be
The help others rendered for us
We should remember the level of its measure
That we received that time@
There is a story about a small rat
Helped a lion to escape from the net by cutting it
Similarly, several small helps that others rendered
Saved us many times
Where is the justification
To throw away others once their purpose is served
When we face similar situation
Then we will understand that
“There is escape from sin even for virtue-killers
But not for the gratitude-killers” (Kural 110)*
Remembering this words of Valluvar
We should live with gratitude

@ A timely helps though small in worth
Is greater than the earth. [Tr. By M. Rajaram, ibid.]
Mathigiri, 25-6-17, 8.50 am.
When others ask what makes me serve my mother with this much patience (????), my one response is that my parents never threw me away when I was a baby or child because of their hardship in life. Swimming against all kinds of odds, they poured their whole life to bring us this much. Now what I do is not even a fraction of what they have done for me. I cannot forget what they have done for me and what I am doing is not to repay them. Not even gratitude. Not even a dharma (duty), but consider it an opportunity to serve. I feel more blessed by it than my mother receiving any comfort. Of course challenges are there, but they are nothing compared to what they faced to bring all their children. This song only reflects this thought.
This song is dedicated to the children who have parents
Secular Song 327

Secular Song 328

Secular Song 328 Are you a strange creature?
Don’t think deeply about anything
Don’t do much research
Just accept the things as they come
You learn to live as you came
Nothing is happening in this world
Separately for you
God too has never created
Anything especially for you
He never creates a
Separate world for you
He never put you
All alone in it
Just tell me
In what way you are different from others
Stop merely arguing
For everything in life
When others are living normally
What is the need for your special analysis?
What kind of joy you find
By asking questions which are not useful to anyone?
There is none to come forward
To give answer to your questions
Nobody is interested
To respond to your inquiries
Keeping both your mind and mouth shut
Try to live silently
If you refuse to listen to me
Leave me alone, I don’t have time for you
Mathigiri, 26-6-17, 6.15 pm.
As I went for my walk, as usual so many questions came in my mind about various things in life. As I began to ponder them to find an answer, then I said in Tamil don’t think too much about so many things. Nobody is going to listen to you or answer your questions. Keep your mouth shut and live life just as it comes. Then as inspiration came, I recorded this song on my mobile while walking.
Secular Song 329

Secular Song 329 An advice to me
I cannot change my habit
The spoiled heart is not listening
I cannot forget the habit
There is no use taking pity on me
At the same time
I cannot wash my hands towards me
But I don’t have any more strength
To do more than this
There is no point in teaching
As no one refuses to listen
Though some have their own brain
They don’t know how to think independently
Don’t ask me
To whom I give this advice
I never proclaim this to the world
When I don’t have means to escape
I tell this only to me
I try to mend my way each day
But both my buddhi and heart are
Not ready to listen to me
There is a tug up war between buddhi and heart
They do it each day
I cannot bear with them anymore
I am unable to live with them each day
But this struggle has now
Become part of everyday life
Lamenting about it
Also become my habit
Once habit become the routine
There is no point of taking pity on me
As I learnt to struggle each day
I need not worry too much about it
Mathigiri, 28-6-2017, 11.10 pm.
The constant struggle between mind (buddhi) and heart is a great challenge for me. I cannot give up one at the cost of the other. They both are part of me. Yet the way they approach several issues in life is completely different. While my buddhi analyzes and tries to approach with reason, my heart goes as per the feeling and emotion. At the same time, I understand that there is no buddhi and heart separately and both are nothing but the function of the brain—several times simultaneously. Yet I cannot escape from the dvand (repulsion and attraction,–reason and emotion). As I thought about it, I wrote this song giving advice to my—buddhi or heart? I don’t know. Anyhow, who is the ‘I’ which addresses this buddhi and heart?
Secular Song 330

Secular Song 330 Don’t hesitate
“Once all those who were with me have gone
What kind of life is there for me anymore”?
Did you notice the life of those
Who laments like this?
Did they give up even one thing in their life?
Did they say that they don’t want it anymore?
The life goes as usual for them
There is no option but to live like this.
If all those who came with us continue to be with us
The burden will increase slowly
Once they leave in time
Finally the burden will become light
When they come, don’t reject them
When they offer some help don’t refuse to accept it
Don’t forget to do your part also
When they leave, don’t stop them
You too will go in the same way as others have gone
Those who left behind will follow you
In the middle some will join you
But till the end no will come with you
Understanding this truth
Taking those who come with you
Not hesitating to bid good-bye to those who leave
You to live as long as you live on this earth
Mathigiri, 2-7-2017, 10.30 pm.
Another reality about life. This is true not only about ‘death’ as the final good-bye for those who lived with us, but even in relationship and friendship. Though we will miss them for some time, life will go as usual for all.
