Secular Song 376

Secular Song 376 When one will live again
The heart is running after something which does not exists
And refuse to accept what one already has on hand
It does not value what one already has on hand
And longing to have what others have
It often thinks that it misses one important thing
But not knowing what it is, often get confused
Leaving what is on hand it always looks what is flying
And runs after it, thinking that one day it will catch it
It remains careful that it will never go out of its sight
And not even blinking the eyes it keeps the vigil
When someone came seeking after it
Then it goes to fight with him over it
Cheating both of them when the bird flew away
Then a quarrel begins between them about it
As both fights for something which they are not going to get
Unnecessary enmity alone grows more and more between them
When one returns back with much disappointments
The one which is already on the hand has also flew away
Till the end the life goes like this
And when one actually is going to live life?
Thirupponthuruthi, 14-9-2017, 11.30 pm.
As my stay in this ashram is going to end with this day, I thought about my life in various places. Though I find that our own ashram at Marupalli is the best one suited for my needs and temperament, I often miss my life in it. Then as I began to reflect about this reality in which we always long to have something which is not within our reach forgetting to enjoy what we already have, I wrote this song.
Secular Song 377

Secular Song 377 Analyzing unnecessarily
What is there like or dislike
In this life
Where is bitterness or sweetness?
When I live
When things come
What is there to reject or receive?
What does it mean to rejoice or hate
When I experience them both
Whether accept or reject
There is no alternative in life
Whether happy or unhappy
There is no other means
Whether win or lose
The answer is the same
Whether live or die
Life is the same
Once we understood them
Very clearly
Why should we analyze
The life unnecessarily
Mathigiri, 20-9-2017, 10.30 pm
As I was recovering from my sickness I thought about the life which puts so many demands on us. Particularly those who lost their health in general don’t want to live further and will merely survive without having any real interest in life. Unable to eat properly and do my regular work, as I was confined in my bed, I began to think about this kind of life. Then as the inspiration came I wrote this song remaining on my bed.
Secular Song 378

Secular Song 378 To stage a thamasha (entertainment)?
They struggle a lot
And talk not understanding
They say that
They will win by fighting
For that
Creating a ‘the other’
Blaming several things
About him
In order to protect their own people
They try to annihilate him
And there by
Only sow the seed of hatred in the mind of their own
But the enemy
Who they created soon disappearing
They finally harvest
The very enmity which they created
Not realizing their own shortcomings
And not fighting with it
By blaming others (for that)
They are defeated
Not overcoming oneself
By fighting with one’s own shortcomings
There is no point in attacking
The enemy who even does not exist
Though they fight in the air
And stage a thamasha
Once the show ends
The crowd will go away
Do they need to stage such a show?
Only to entertain others?
And then becoming an
Object of tamasha?
Gurukulam, 25-9-2017, 11.40 p.m.
Creating ‘The Other’ in order to defend one’s right is a common thing in the world. In fact those who are really suppressed and suffered due to so many sociological factors are right in pointing out the real ‘Other’ who suppressed them. But several times the ‘Others’ whom they create to fight remain a smoke person, though they exist in invisible form in real life. And in order to fight with that smoke person, they will make him an enemy for their survival, interest and identity and begin to attack him by inducing hatred about him among their own people. But that smoke person, who exists but does not have a physical form to clash, continues to survive. Several times, not minding about such opposition, he will continue to press forward in his life, even sometimes retreating back allowing his opponents to fight with him in the air. Meanwhile, attacking that smoke person those who create hatred will soon realize that without anyone to target actually, that hatred will now return back among themselves with conflicting interest. And within the same group, without having any reformation among themselves, they will continue to struggle for survival and also to have their own space within them. Particularly after the Social media which gives space and freedom for every individual to express her views, never allows one issue to remain alive. And those who fight for the interest of their own group will be used for others within their group either to have some entertainment or make a living keeping that opposition and hatred alive. But soon they will end up doing their fight in the air and entertaining people.
Selfishness at the core is the main issue. Without addressing it first, merely fighting with a smoke person for a common cause will never bring expected results. This is true particularly who induce all kinds of communal hatred and create ‘the other’ to fight in the air.
Secular Song 379

Secular Song 379He created
God created man
And man created gods
I who caught in between them
What would be my destination?
Because if he is called as “GOD” as he creates
In one way man is also a kind of god
As he (man) too creates god
This is very true
God gave so many worries
To the man whom he created
Man himself became a problem
To the God [he] man created
To remove his problems
Man prayed to god in so many ways
Creating gods using mud, stone and wood
He invented so many stories for that
But poor god as he does not have
Any kind of means to remove his problem
To do the same as man has done for him
Finally he get trapped in this net
Once creating human
Unwilling to create him again
In order to seek the solution for this
He came as human amidst us
Then he realized his mistake
And understood the mistake that he has done
As he created human beings
Now he is trapped in all kinds of worries
Finally both in one way
Understanding the reason for their worries
Began to think about the means of
Not creating further
I, who get trapped in between them,
What can I say about my condition?
Neither reaming a god, nor human
What can I do about this condition now?
If I were a human then I can
Create god again
If I were a god, then
I can create human in completely different way
Both god and man are
Not in a position to think about me
Each one has their own problem
Why should they worry about me?
Finally who actually I am
That is the worry now
To whom shall I ask?
That is not clear to me now
If I ask god, he will say that I am human
If I ask man, he will say that I am god
Therefore I seek a condition
So that I won’t get trapped in between them
Gurukulam, 27(28)-9-2017, 12.30am.
I often have two persons within me. But this has nothing to do with split personality. When I sit for my mediation and prayer, I remain as a bhakta of Bhagavan setting aside all my rationality but only having faith in Him and completely trusting him. At the same time when I read any book, another Dayanand emerges keeping all kinds of rationalism in the forefront—asking questions, analyzing the points etc. There I never allow my faith to interfere with my reason. So this night after reading about “THE ETERNITY OF THE VEDAS AND THE QURAN: A COMPARATIVE STUDY” by Prof. Arvind Sharma, Textual Studies in Hinduism, New Delhi, Mahohar Publications, pp.47-68, where he skillfully presented his view in his own style, I thought about the way our Hindu tradition, (here Mimamsas) can even remove God as far away as possible, as Sharma says,
The Mimasakas@ and the Asharites& both resolve the possible conflict between God and Scripture, but the Asharites do it by brining the Scripture as close to God as possible, the Mimasakas by removing God as far away as possible.42—p. 59
42. Another way of slicing into the situation is in terms of three categories: God, Scripture, Nature, and to pose the problem as one of establishing (p.67) the primacy of one item over the rest. Asharite theology conferred primacy on God, blended the Scripture with Him and relegated Nature to a secondary position as His creation and thus asserted its theo-centricism. Mimamsa philosophy conferred the primacy on Scripture, blended Nature with it, eliminated God, and thus established its Biblio-centricism.—pp. 67-68
@One of the six schools of thought or philosophy also known as Purva-mimamsa.
& One of the schools of Islamic theology.
In one of his (film) songs my favorite Tamil poet Kavinjnar Kannadasan wrote, ‘மானிட இனத்தை ஆட்டிவைத்தேன்; அவர் மாண்டுவிட்டால் அதை பாடிவைத்தேன். [I made the humans to dance; and even if they pass away I sang about it. I am bit different from the common man; as I too create, my name is God; I remain forever and never passes away and in no situation I never face death]
The context of the song is to proclaim about his talent to write songs. As a writer and poet he too is a creator therefore god. So he never dies though he passes away. This is not arrogance but telling the truth with much self-confidence recognizing one’s own talent. At least he deserves it as long as Tamil and Tamil films will remain, his name will remain forever. So when I wrote about human’s creating gods, I recalled Kannadasan’s this song and gave this title.
Secular Song 380

Secular Song 380Laugh, humour
Truly it is laughable
As some cannot laugh
We have to wonder
How is it possible to live without humor?
Though there are so many rasas (emotions)
Without humor
All those rasas
Will become mere waste
Among the nine kinds of rasas
The one remains completely different
It is humor alone
Who can deny this?
Without humor
We cannot live
Indeed it is laughable
To live without humor
To keep both
Body and mind healthy
Nothing can help more
Like that of laugh
We born to laugh
And let us live laughing
If we live without humor
Then we will become laughable
Gurukulam, 28-9-2017(29)9-2017, 12.15 am.
After reading about humor in Michelle Voss Roberts, Tastes of the Divine, New York, Fordham University Press, 2014, I wrote this song. For me living without humor is impossible as human. One of my favourite sons on laugh is by Kannadasan for the film Arangetram. He wrote it very humoureously about laughing as essential part of life.
