Secular Song 596
A familiar Indian theme: So many proverbs, songs in various languages point out the mixture of good and evil; benefit and loss, joy and suffering in every area of life. Even in suffering and evil there will be something good. Only a discerning person can see that and not much disturbed by all the negativities in life

Secular Song 596

Secular Song 596
All that we do
As Good
Won’t remain
Completely good
Anything that
We avoid as bad
Won’t end up
As bad
Both good and bad
Is not in our action
It depends upon
Our own approach
After the result alone
We would know
How an action
Ended—good or bad
However an action ends
In every action
There will be
Something good
Even the action
That ended as bad
Might teach
A good lesson
Not only seeking
Good in everything
And not shunning
Always bad things
There is no life
Without them both
And realizing this
We should live
When we accept
Them both and live
There will be a
Mix of both
No bad thing will
Overcome us all the time
When we manage to see
Something good in it.

Secular Song 597
Secular Song 597

Since I came here, particularly after July 16th, I have been reading so many books like a reading machine. I read them deeply and as per my habit even took notes and wrote reviews to share. But this evening after my regular reading, I refused to take the next book to read without any gap, I stopped reading and sat quietly thinking about the use of reading so many books like this like a machine. As I was contemplating this, I wrote this song. But no use, I continued my reading as I have to complete so many books before I leave during the first of October.
Secular Song 597 Silence is the result of wisdom
I should stop
Both reading and writing
I should even lose
My thinking process
I should learn
The art of
Remaining ‘silent’
By controlling the mind
I should stop
Babbling a lot
Not knowing well
And uttering without understanding
I have limited buddhi
And what I know is very little
But there is no scarcity
For words to utter and write
Remembering that
‘Silence is the result of wisdom’
A proverb
By Owai
If I learn
The art of silence
One day I can
Attain that wisdom
Till that time
Not feeding
To the hunger
Of this wavering mind
I should learn
To practice the vow of
Stopping reading
Gradually
Confusion increases
As I read more
Somehow clarity
Refuses to come
In order to
Share their experience
They have
Written a lot
Will be it be useful to us
What they understood
Can we gain
Their own experience
Seeking what
Is our need
And keeping other’s experience
As a lesson for us
We can learn
The lesson of life
By understanding what we observed
Through our own experience
Leaving that
If we began to read much
It would end up like
The wealth that received in a dream

Secular Song 598
Again one young man, confused a lot about life asked me, ‘ultimately what life actually is’. I gave my regular answer ‘live and learn’. There is no other way to understand life. None can teach that to you. No reading can help you. When you thought that you have settled in life, some sudden unexpected events might come and completely unsettle your life forcing you to learn further only through your experience. After he left, as I was reflecting about this I wrote this song.
Secular Song 598
Secular Song 598 Live to learn
To know
What life actually is
Better you live
And learn
We cannot
Understand other’s life
When we cannot understand
Our own life
Adding with the
Past experience
Adding new understanding
From today’s life
For the future life
To go relatively smoothly
We can think
Properly for that
As sudden and
Unexpected events
Turn the
Everyday life
Whatever we might have
Planned
All won’t go
Accordingly
Therefore unless
We live everyday life as it is
We can never understand
The human life
At the same time
If we are bewildered
Thinking about this kind of life
Then we can never able to live
Along with
The experience we gained
Accepting the reality of
Practical life
We should face
The future life
With much hope
As we live this day
There are many
Ways to understand life
But how to say
Which one is correct
If there is someone
Who can give correct answer
Then try to
Follow their way
Otherwise living
Your life by your own way
Learn which one is
Correct life

Secular Song 599
When I shared my previous song [598] with my friend Kannan at Erode, he sent the following response in poetic form. This is the first time he is attempting to write a poem. As I liked it, I sent the following response, again as a poem to him.
When the given life is not clear
Philosophies will come automatically
Always worshiping God
who promised to uphold us
in our hearts, let us praise Him with much humility
and let us show His might by living
Kannan, Erode, 26-8-23
Secular Song 599

Secular Song 599
Who can win
Someone born at Erode
That person has
Yet to born on earth
Do anyone need
To teach to those
Who were born
In the land of Periyar?@
But few
Not realising this
Roaming around
Calling themselves as ‘Speakers’
But if my friend
Improves a lot
He can shine
Writing more poems
A good opportunity
Has come now to him
As his wife’s hearing power
Has come down
Therefore, my friend
Can talk anything at home
As no objection
Would come to that
But if he keeps
Quiet outside
That would be
Good for everyone
He need not babble
Writing like me
And need not be
Mocked by all
I say what
I know for good
Rest is
His own funeral

Secular Song 600
As I listened to one wonderful Carnatic music vocal performance by the late Bharat Ratna Srimathi M. S. Subbulakshmi, who was also born in Madurai, wrote this short tribute both to her and goddess Meenakshi who resides at Madurai. Considering the play of word ‘rule’ in Tamil, I cannot translate this song in other languages.
Secular Song 600

Secular Song 600 Your rule

What a blessing you received
Goddess Meenakshi, in your soil
As my mother has born to
Sing the glory of your rule
Among us uplifting the
Glory of Carnatic music
MSS Amma is ruling for ever
More than you
Somehow as you both
Give a good Kingdom by ruling well
We always see Godliness
In both your rules
