Song 67

This poem I wrote when I deeply thought about the topic on which I talked with Rakesh, cousin of Shashi at Mahari, Rewa in M.P., this evening on February 17, 1996.  His question was, ‘is it possible for one to live for others as we have our own needs in life’?  In response I said that it is possible as long as we never divide life in water tight compartments like ‘my’ life and ‘others’ life.  We cannot live without others contribution and others cannot live without our contribution.  The real secret in life is that WE ARE NOT LIVING FOR OTHERS BUT ONLY WITH OTHERS.

67  இதுவே உண்மை

எது உண்மை இவ்வுலகினிலே

என எண்ணிப் பார்க்கும் போதினிலே 

புலப்படாது விடை ஒன்றும் 

புதிராய்த் தோன்றும் வாழ்க்கையிலே 

அகம்புறம் என சிலவாறு 

வகைப்படுத்தியே வாழ்க்கையினை

அலசிப்பார்த்த ஆன்றோறும்

வகுத்தே தந்தார் சில நெறிகள் 

ஆனால் அனுதின வாழ்வினிலே 

போராடும் மனிதருக்கோ

நெறியினை சிந்திக்க நேரமில்லை 

“சுயம்” எண்ணி வாழ்வதாலே 

அகமும் புறமும் வேறல்ல

அவற்றின் தன்மை அறிந்தவர்க்கு

சுயநலத்திடை பொதுநல மெண்ணிப்

புரிந்து கொண்டே வாழ்பவர்க்கு 

இதுவே உண்மை இவ்வுலகினிலே 

எதுவரை நாம் வாழ்ந்திடினும்

புலப்படுமே விடையாவும்

சரியாய் வாழ்வை வாழும் வரை

67 This is Life

Which one is real life?

When we think life like this

No answer will come

As life became a riddle.

Dividing the life like:

‘mine’ and ‘others’

Our ancestors also gave

Some guidelines for us to live

But for the people

Who struggles in everyday life?

Have no time to think about it

As they have to live only for their needs.

‘Mine’ and ‘other’ are not two different things

For those who have wisdom

As they live WITH others

While living also for oneself

This is the truth in life

How long we might live

We will get the answer

Once we live with others

[and not only for us]
