Song 85

Pleasure never gives real satisfaction.  Before we get it, there is a lot of physical and mental longing for it.  But once we got it, nothing but disappointment followed, again persuading us to get it in a different way.  But there is no end to this human struggle.

85                ஏமாற்றம்

அன்றாட வாழ்வு ஒரு போராட்டம்

அதனிடை என்ன கொண்டாட்டம்

மன்றாடும் மனத்தினை வென்றேக முடியாத

மனிதா உண்பாடு திண்டாட்டம்

பொய்யை மெய்யென்று எண்ணி

போகமே வாழ்வேன்று நம்பி

மாயைபின் ஓடிடும் மனிதா-உன்

மதிகெட்ட நிலைஎன்ன சொல்ல?

அனுபவிக்கும் முன் எத்தனை ஆத்திரம்

அடைந்தபின்னோ பெரும் ஏமாற்றம்

கைக்கெட்டியும் வாய்க் கெட்டாத

கேவலமான ஒரு போராட்டம்

அறிந்தபின் அவை பின்னே ஓடும்

உன் அவலத்தின் நிலையை எண்ணி

போக்கிரி என்றே ஒதுங்கவோ

பேதை என்றே புலம்பவோ?

85                Disappointment

Everyday life is a struggle

What is there to celebrate?

Oh human beings your situation is pitiable

As you cannot overcome your struggling mind

Thinking lie as truth

Trusting that pleasure as life

What to say about your foolishness Oh human beings

Who runs after maya?

Before enjoying there is eagerness (thirst = thrishna)

Once you got it then comes disappointment

A pitiable struggle in which

Though you got on your hand

It never reaches your mouth

Even after realizing this

As you run after it

Should I say that you are mad?

Or to keep away from you (not saying anything about it)?
