Diamond Painting
This is one of the worst art works I have done. First, they didn’t provide enough diamonds to complete the piece. I had to use the next closest color to finish it. The diamonds provided were square-cut, but they were uneven, with minute differences between each one [Made in India]. When I inserted one between two others, one would pop out and have to be adjusted constantly.
However, I learned how to manage such odd works. When beginning (unlike cross-stitch, which should always start from the center), do not leave any gaps. Place each diamond next to the previous one without needing to insert another color after completing one color in different places. Similarly, you have to go slightly outside the designated area but within the adhesive to provide enough room to adjust for different-sized diamonds.
In any case, no one will notice the mistakes when looking from a distance, as everything viewed from afar appears beautiful, greenish, and soothing. But observed closely, one can find all the mistakes. Just like in relationships, as familiarity breeds contempt, as we say in Tamil, ‘Kittap ponal muttap pahai,’ or in Hindi, ‘Bartan bagal me rahata hai to takareta rahata hai’ – vessels kept very close to each other will always make noise when you remove one from the basket.
