BT Song 1176-1180

BT Song 1176

As I meditated on the way the Lord guides me carefully through each moment of my life, I wrote this song.

BT Song 1176 – The Good Shepherd

1

The tasks thou gav’st, I have fulfilled,

Thy teachings new, I shall seek still,

Thy strength alone, my guide and stay,

In thy wisdom, I find my way.

2

Without thy power, naught can be,

This truth, O Lord, is clear to me,

For in thy might, both deed and word,

Are possible through thee, O Lord.

3

Though trials rise and tasks be hard,

Thy guidance true is my reward,

With thy counsel, light and pure,

All burdens lift, and I endure.

4

To strive becomes a task of ease,

As strength from thee doth still increase,

With each command, my courage grows,

In thy service, my heart glows.

5

Must I remind thee, gentle guide,

How tenderly the ewes abide,

To lead with care, the pregnant ones,

Thy wisdom, Lord, surpasses suns.

6

To thee, the shepherd true and kind,

Who knows each need of lamb and hind,

To lead us forth to pastures green,

Thy love and grace are ever seen.

7

Thou lead’st me to the verdant field,

Where gentle streams their waters yield,

In timely care, thou bring’st me there,

To drink and rest, free from despair.

8

In shaded cool, I find repose,

Then back to graze, as daylight goes,

With thee, my guide, both strong and wise,

Thy watchful eye, my paradise.

9

Within thy fold, a sheep am I,

Thou lead’st me with thy rod on high,

To follow thee, in trust and love,

Guided by thy hand above.

10

To be the lamb within thy care,

Embraced by thee, forever there,

In thy warm hold, my fears all cease,

With thee, my Lord, I rest in peace.

BT Song 1176 – Good Shepherd

1

I did what you taught me,

I’ll try what you’ll teach,

With your strength beside me,

I’ll strive to reach.

2

I know without your power,

I can’t do both,

Your strength is vital,

That’s what I’ve understood.

3

No matter how hard,

The task might seem,

When you teach me well,

I can fulfill the dream.

4

Doing becomes easy,

Strength grows more,

With your guidance,

I soar and soar.

5

Do I need to tell you,

To guide the pregnant sheep,

To gently lead them,

And help them keep?

6

You’re always a shepherd,

Who knows the way,

To take us grazing,

Every single day.

7

You lead to green pastures,

At the right time,

You take me to water,

In your care, I’m fine.

8

Resting in the shade,

You let me be,

Then back to grazing,

With you, I’m free.

9

I’m the sheep of your fold,

You guide with your rod,

To be in your hold,

Forever with my God.

10

You hug me close,

I’m always near,

In your embrace,

I have no fear.

BT Song 1177

When remorse makes me feel humiliated, the grace of God helps me overcome it and gives me new life to sing His praises again.

BT Song 1177 – Will Sing and Praise

1

When I reflect on deeds I’ve done,

Words themselves, they seem to shun,

In silence, they hesitate and stay,

Unable to find the right words to say.

2

If I keep my heart’s tale confined,

My own soul will judge and bind,

For not sharing what’s deep within,

My heart would see it as a sin.

3

But when thy grace descends on me,

My spirit finds comfort, pure and free,

For thy love alone brings solace true,

In thy mercy, my heart renews.

4

I know the cause, it’s clear and bright,

In thy love, there shines the light,

That understanding, pure and fair,

Reveals thy love beyond compare.

5

Though thy love, I comprehend,

I see I’m unworthy to extend,

For I have lost the grace to claim,

The honor of thy love’s sweet flame.

6

So when I approach with hesitation,

Thy loving hands give consolation,

Embracing me with tender grace,

In thy arms, I find my place.

7

And then, forgetting all my past,

Thy love renews my soul at last,

Reborn in spirit, pure and bright,

I sing thy praises day and night.

8

This new life brings a fresh delight,

In thy grace, I find my light,

O Lord, my heart forever raise,

To sing and laud thy endless praise.

BT Song 1177 – Will Sing and Praise

1

When I think of all I’ve done,

Words will stand still,

If I keep it all inside,

My heart will feel ill.

2

But when your grace comes,

My spirit finds peace,

Your love alone survives,

And all troubles cease.

3

I know the reason why,

Your love becomes clear,

Though I understand,

I feel unworthy, dear.

4

When I come with hesitation,

You hug me tight,

Forgetting all my wrongs,

You make everything right.

5

You help me to forget,

All the wrongs I’ve done,

In your love, I’m set,

Reborn as someone.

6

This new life you give me,

Fills my heart with praise,

Oh Lord, to you I sing,

For your loving ways.

7

Your love and grace,

They cleanse my soul,

With you, my Lord,

I feel whole.

8

Every day I praise,

With songs and love,

For your blessings,

From heaven above.

BT Song 1178

Often, a kind of frustration (chanchal) engulfs my mind, not allowing me to concentrate on my sadhana and other activities. When I focus on one thing, simultaneous thoughts run parallel in my mind. Though I’m accustomed to this habit, it disturbs me during prayer, frustrating me and compelling me to abandon my sadhana. This song pours out my heart to the Lord, as I struggle to concentrate. I’ve noticed that when I write poems, my mind focuses on thoughts and words, preventing my mind from wandering. The Lord accepts me as I am, giving me hope.

BT Song 1178 – What is the Use?

1

Once I have lost thee from my mind,

Though thou stand before, I’m blind,

What gain is there in sight’s embrace,

When thy presence I cannot trace?

2

Though with my eyes I do not see,

Thou dwellest deep inside of me,

If I lose that inner sight,

What use is there in heart’s delight?

3

Though countless times thou speak’st within,

Through thoughts that whisper, soft and thin,

What use are thoughts if I forsake,

Thee within, and thus partake?

4

Thou gav’st me peace within my soul,

A calm that made my spirit whole,

Yet if my soul should restless be,

What use is that tranquility?

5

Though daily struggles fill my life,

Thy grace endures through all my strife,

In thy presence, strength I find,

Thy love and grace are unconfined.

6

As I receive this blessed state,

What fears or trials shall I await?

With thee beside me, firm and true,

No fear shall darken my view.

Mathigiri, 7-3-2020, 11.50 p. m.

BT Song 1178 – What is the Use?

1

When I lose you in my thoughts,

Even if you stand near,

What’s the use of seeing you,

If my mind is not clear?

2

Though you dwell in my heart,

Once that feeling is gone,

What’s the use of having it,

If I can’t carry on?

3

Though you talk to me often,

Through my thoughts each day,

What’s the use of thoughts that vanish,

And leave me in dismay?

4

When you give me inner peace,

My soul feels at ease,

But if it fades away,

What’s the use of that peace?

5

Though I live with daily struggles,

Your grace sees me through,

No comparison to your love,

For it always renews.

6

With you always by my side,

Struggles don’t bring fear,

I face them with your strength,

Knowing you are near.

Mathigiri, 7-3-2020, 11.50 p. m.

BT Song 1179

For me, controlling the mind or renouncing the self to concentrate on worshipping the Lord seems artificial. The more I try to control my mind, the more forcefully it bounces back. I need to realize that this mind and its thoughts are wonderful gifts from God, which I must acknowledge. This acknowledgment will bring peace of mind, allowing me to worship even with an unstable mind. After struggling for some time, I finally wrote this song, thanking God for the gift of mind and thought.

BT Song 1179 – I Realized (Classical English Style)

1. When shall I approach Thy feet,

And shed my thoughts, my self defeat?

Though I strive to worship Thee,

My mind resists, it will not flee.

2. Like waves that crash upon the shore,

Thoughts assail, I seek no more,

One by one, they cloud my soul,

Peace eludes, I am not whole.

3. Standing foolish by the tide,

Waiting for the waves to subside,

Yet the sea in its unrest,

Dictates the heart within my breast.

4. I attempted to control,

A mind that slips beyond my hold,

   Failing countless times before,

Lord, I come to you once more.

5. Then you whispered in my ear,

Revealed the secret, made it clear,

These thoughts you gave, they’re not my own,

To embrace them, to you I’m shown.

6. It’s enough that I discern,

They’re gifts from Thee, in every turn,

   No need to abandon me,

   Just comprehend reality.

7. With this truth, my heart now sings,

In worship, the joy it brings,

For in each thought, I find anew,

A hymn of praise, dear Lord, to you.

Mathigiri, 8-3-2020,11.00

BT Song 1179 – I Realized

When will I come to your feet,

Renounce my thoughts, forget me,

Though I try to worship you,

My mind won’t let me be.

Like waves that never cease,

My thoughts come rushing in,

One by one they strike,

And peace is hard to win.

I’m like the fool who stands,

By the shore and waits,

For the waves to end,

But the sea dictates.

I tried to turn my mind,

Which isn’t mine to guide,

I failed so many times,

Oh Lord, I came to your side.

You told me then the secret,

That you gave the thoughts to me,

I need not renounce them,

Nor fear them constantly.

It’s enough to realize,

They belong to you,

I need not forget me,

Just understand what’s true.

You told me that this thought,

Is praise enough for you,

So with this understanding,

I worshiped anew.

BT Song 1180 – Unable to Articulate

1

Thou hast done a deed profound,

Beyond my words to make it sound,

Kept me in a silent state,

Unable to articulate.

2

Though speech eludes my mortal tongue,

Thy deed to me is clearly sung,

In silence, I do understand,

The work of thy almighty hand.

3

Though unclear what I did seek,

In my quest, thy truth did peek,

What I sought, I did attain,

Though its name I can’t explain.

4

In my soul, I felt the gain,

Yet no name for it remain,

I cannot say I found the Lord,

Nor if I gained eternal reward.

5

To say I found divinity,

Or grasped the truth eternally,

Such words elude my grasp today,

For peace alone with me does stay.

6

Though I may struggle in this life,

With body worn and mind in strife,

Thy peace within, I understand,

Gives solace from thy guiding hand.

7

Battling with both heart and mind,

Against the world, no peace I find,

Yet with thee, I share a bond,

Whose name I cannot correspond.

8

To that bond, no name I give,

For in thy grace, I learn to live,

This truth I cannot well convey,

Nor the reasons thou dost not say.

9

When thou refusest, what can I do?

But in thy wisdom, find what’s true,

To write beyond would be in vain,

For thy reasons still remain.

10

So in silence, I understand,

The act of thy almighty hand,

Unspoken deeds, profound and true,

In my heart, I hold of you.

11

Thy acts beyond my words to tell,

In silent grace, with thee I dwell,

And thus I find in silent praise,

Thy glory in mysterious ways.

12

Therefore, with this silent thought,

Thy wondrous deeds, my soul has sought,

Oh Lord, in worship, I do stand,

With silent praise and open hand.

Mathigiri, 11-3-2020, 11.00 p.m.

BT Song 1180 – Unable to Articulate

1

You’ve done something great,

I can’t put into words,

You left me in a state,

Where speaking seems absurd.

2

Though I can’t say it,

You helped me understand,

What I’ve found is special,

Part of your grand plan.

3

I felt it in my soul,

But it has no name,

I can’t say I’ve found God,

Or if I’m free from pain.

4

This knowledge is so clear,

Yet unclear to many still,

In my daily life, it’s peace,

That your love instills.

5

Though my body and mind,

Fight each day and tire,

Your peace stays with me,

Through every trial and fire.

6

I don’t know how to name,

The bond I have with you,

You made me unable to say,

Or explain what is true.

7

Since you’ve refused the reason,

What more can I write?

Now I understand,

Your act in the light.

8

Therefore what I can’t say,

Through words alone,

I now understand,

Your love is known.

9

You’ve done something so deep,

Beyond what I can tell,

Your reasons are hidden,

In your love I dwell.

10

So I accept this gift,

With a heart full of grace,

I praise you, my Lord,

In this sacred place.

11

With this understanding,

I worship and sing,

Oh my Lord,

To you I cling.

12

Now I know your love,

In my heart it stays,

Guiding me always,

Through all my days.

 BT Song 1176
