BT Songs 1701 to 1705

BT Song 1701 – Final Realization

This constant longing or struggle to renounce everything and live the life of a true sannyasi has always been with me. But whether it is due to my temperament or the will of God, I have never been able to attain that ideal. I’ve read much about true renunciation and even encountered a few individuals—both householders (like my own father) and sannyasis—who embodied that life. Yet, I remain deeply attached to many things. These attachments have become obstacles to achieving that ideal.

Now, nearing the end of my life, I still haven’t understood true renunciation through my own experience and experimentation. As the struggle continues, I find solace only at the feet of the Lord. I firmly believe that even this kind of life was ordained for me by Him. So let me live out the rest of my days with this inner struggle. At the very least, the longing within, and the awareness of having failed my own ideal, often bring me to surrender—especially when I can’t understand myself or even the Lord.

BT Song 1701 – Realised at the End

  1.

To fully know,
And fully let go—
To cut off all ties
And in that freedom grow.

  •

Though this thought
Was always near,
Still I failed
To live without fear.

  •

“What is this bond?”
I asked at first—
Until I left
The grip of its thirst.

  •

What to give up?
And how to be free?
Such questions arose
Repeatedly in me.

  •

One side pulled
By the body’s need,
The mind on the other
Pressed hard to feed.

  •

What I need
And why I cling—
Was unclear still,
A confusing thing.

  •

When I could not
Let go of a thing,
The soul within
Began questioning.

  •

Fighting through
This daily strain,
I found the chance
To see things plain.

  •

Then at Your feet,
A thought did rise—
I held it close
And came, with cries.

  1.

And then I knew
What I must hold—
To cling to You—
And not the old.

BT Song 1702 – The Final Dance

As usual, I went for my evening walk. But due to back pain, I couldn’t continue and had to return early. I sat on a stone bench outside, reflecting on how I used to exercise for hours each day (at least three hours, including morning and evening), and how, in contrast, I now feel physically crippled by old age. This is becoming the new normal, and I must learn to live with it.

But that doesn’t mean I can easily let go of the Lord, blaming only my age. If anything, I am more tempted to blame Him—for letting me live this crippled life. Out of habit, I began expressing these thoughts in poetic form, and as the inspiration flowed, I composed this song in my mind and later typed it out.

BT Song 1702 – The Final Dance

  1.

All your dances
I tried and saw—
In each I failed,
Then came in awe.

  •

“You asked me to dance,”
Was all I could say;
Yet You gave no answer—
Why turn away?

  •

“You must dance,”
It was You who told,
You gave the steps,
And the wind so bold.

  •

But when I failed
In the rhythm’s call,
You turned and said,
“It’s not my fault at all.”

  •

Why, O Lord,
Did You not trust?
And give no reason—
Was that just?

  •

Mistakes I owned,
And fixed each one,
Prepared again
For one more run.

  •

To dance again,
I longed, I prayed—
I came to You
And gently said:

  •

But again You said,
In silence and grace,
“Be still and wait—
This is not your place.”

  •

“Your will be done,”
Was my quiet song—
So I sat in peace
And waited long.

  1.

The days flew by,
The months moved on,
And now old age
Has fully come.

  1.

Now You say,
“Arise and dance!”
“This is the peak
Of cruel chance.”

  1.

The time to dance
Has come and gone—
Now comes the age
Of stumbling on.

  1.

You saw this too,
Each passing day—
And yet command:
“Dance anyway.”

  1.

The final dance
Alone remains—
No more rehearsal,
No more chains.

  1.

If You alone
Will teach it true,
I’ll dance that last
And come to You.

BT Song 1703 – Habit and Practice

I am currently reading The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (London: Random House, 2013 [2012]). Based on scientific studies, the book explores how habits are formed unconsciously but can be reshaped consciously. This applies to all areas of life—especially in sadhana.

Often, we perform spiritual disciplines out of habit. Although feeling the Presence of God requires conscious awareness, it is still better to develop this habit—even if unconsciously—rather than ignore it as mere “ritual.” For example, I read from both the Pūrva Veda and Uttara Veda every day. Sometimes I pay deep attention; other times, I do it merely out of habit. But if I miss even one day, I feel something essential is missing in my life.

The same is true with writing poems. Often, inspiration arises from habit and urges me to write, though I resist, thinking, “What more can I say? It’s the same old theme.” Yet even those poems, written out of habit, later reveal themselves as part of my sadhana.

So instead of giving excuses, it is better to cultivate certain habits—even if they feel routine. Such habits are essential for spiritual discipline. As I reflected on this, I composed this song.

BT Song 1703 – Habit and Practice

  1.

When I sit at Your holy feet,
And think of You in still retreat,
The mind begins its silent song—
The soul receives wisdom all along.

  •

In this world of habits deep,
Where customs rule the life we keep,
Let me make silence my own way,
Till stillness comes and starts to stay.

  •

To reach that state of calm and light,
I must sit at Your feet each night;
Then habit grows to guide my soul—
And through it, I will see the whole.

  •

Though simple it may seem to be,
And fruitless at first it seems to me,
To know the depth of grace so vast,
This daily training one must grasp.

  •

Some things we seek but never find—
Yet they will come when we’re aligned;
And once they’re ours, to guard them well,
We need no path but practice still.

  •

Beyond the heart, beyond all feeling,
It comes and takes the soul for healing;
Beyond all thought, past what we learn,
This wisdom stays and will not turn.

  •

To rest in that eternal grace,
And daily feel that sacred place,
I came and clung to Your dear feet—
Now rule me, Lord, in love complete.

BT Song 1704 – Beyond the Brain

“Beyond the Brain: A Poetic Reflection on the Mind, Soul, and the Limits of Neuroscience”
https://dayanandbharati.in/beyond-the-brain-a-poetic-reflection-on-the-mind-soul-and-the-limits-of-neuroscience/

BT Song 1704 Beyond Brain

I did not worship You for Your own sake,
Nor did I give myself, wholly, for truth’s sake.
This mind slipped in between us two —
Its mischief, I know, is nothing new.

What else is there? I still don’t know,
What can replace this ceaseless flow.
You made the soul and gave me thought,
To help them both, a brain You brought.

To link them all, within the head,
A tiny sphere in the skull was spread.
One helps the other, but not for long —
Soon again, they pull wrong from wrong.

I do not know what’s going on,
No light has yet upon it shone.
Something is happening, this I sense —
But not its meaning, nor its tense.

The learned gave a thousand clues,
But nothing cut the inner noose.
Still I seek an answer bright,
When no one clears the veil of night.

Let things happen — what can I do?
Even if I knew, what use is the clue?
When none can hear, and none reply,
Even the last “why” floats in the sky.

Is it the soul, the brain, the mind, or life —
That stirs this storm, this inner strife?
Each opposes, then helps the other,
A house divided — self fights with brother.

Even if You speak, what can I be?
I fail to live what You show to me.
And so again I bow and pray,
You live for me — I see today.

BT Song 1705 – The Breeze of Separation

It was another cold winter evening. In our region, we receive rainfall during both the Southwest and Northeast monsoons, so the climate always remains cool. As the rain had just paused, a gentle breeze was blowing, accompanied by the sweet voice of a koel and a reddish sky. It was beautiful beyond words. What else could such a scene evoke but a Song of Viraha-bhakti?

Indeed, the rainy season is deeply associated with viraha-bhava—the mood of separation—and I hadn’t written a song in this genre for a long time. Inspired by the surroundings, I mentally composed this song and typed it out after returning to my room.

Later, during my evening walk, I reflected further and realized how two bhāvas stand out in devotional literature: rati-bhāva (romantic love) and vātsalya-bhāva (motherly affection). Although other moods—such as friendship (sakya bhava) and servanthood (dasa bhava)—also have their place, these two remain central and powerful.

As this inspiration continued, I also recorded the tune in kānta-bhāva within the viraha-bhakti genre, already forming in my mind for another song. So, I brought my mobile along to record it when it came.

BT Song 1705 – The Soft Wind of Longing

  1.

A gentle breeze
Brushed past my skin—
And in its touch
Desire did begin.

  •

Thinking the time
Had fully grown,
To speak of love
I came alone.

  •

Though I knew not
Of shame or grace,
You knew it all—
Yet hid Your face.

  •

Why then reject
A fool’s pure flame?
Can Your reasons
Still be the same?

  •

Can love from one
So weak, be denied?
Should desire be scolded
Or cast aside?

  •

Wasn’t it You
Who loved me first?
Was Your seeking
Only thirst?

  •

Then why this drama,
This painful part,
That leaves me torn
In a broken heart?

  •

You said, “For Me
You were born,”
Claimed your right—
Now why this scorn?

  •

You shared your love,
And I gave mine,
My heart said yes—
To your design.

  1.

Still You said,
“Let time grow sweet,”
So I lay waiting
At Your feet.

  1.

Spring returned,
And summer fled,
But winter lied—
Its chill still spread.

  1.

Thinking this is
The lovers’ hour,
I ran to You
With all my power.

  1.

Yet You turned
With distant eyes—
Is that fair?
Is silence wise?

  1.

So come once more
Before winds return—
Embrace me close
And calm my yearn.

  1.

In that embrace,
Let me be lost—
Forever lying
At Your feet, no cost.

BT Song 1701 – இறுதியில் உணர்ந்தேன்

  1.

  •

  •

  •

  •

  •

  •

  •

  •

  1.

BT Song 1702 –

  1.

  •

  1.

  1.

  1.

  1.

  1.

  1.
